  • Unseen Before! British Army and the French Duo Changing of the Guard Rehearsal for Historic Event tomorrow 8thn April, 2024
France is to become the first non-Commonwealth country to take part in the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Monday 8 April 2024, the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.
In preparation for this historic event, The French Gendarmerie Nationale have been rehearsing at Wellington Barracks in London with soldiers from the British Army’s Household Division.
The Band of the Grenadier Guards and F Company Scots Guards trained alongside them today in readiness for Monday’s anniversary.
120 years ago the historic diplomatic agreement between Britain and France laid the groundwork for our nations’ collaboration in both world wars.
Personnel from the Gendarmerie’s Garde Républicaine and the British Army’s Scots Guards will spend the weekend together as part of the cultural exchange, and after the rehearsals today could not resist swapping headgear!

      it's part of the Gendarmerie,
not many countries have the equivalent.
you can say it's police force for rural area and town below 10 000 people i'd say, but they ahve MANY specialist drone cyber securities, border police riot police GIGN and so on.
they kinda are the MP aswell. and they still have many similarities with the army.
For what i know 10 to 15% of gendarme served in the army before
until 2006 they were under the authority of the ministry of defense. now they are in the same minister with the police.
that the short story tho you can look for other information on internet.

For official occasions in Paris we quite often see the Garde Républicaine on horseback, but that must be a different regiment. The ones who guard the Elysée also have a different uniform and I'm pretty sure the Garde Républicaine have a brass band as well. I live not very far away from the Château of Breteuil, where King Edward VII would often stay as a guest of the Breteuil family, who were very distiguished diplomats. They were responsible in setting up the discussions that led to the Entente Cordiale. King George V and the Duke of Windsor were also frequent guests there as well. In fact King George V asked the Breteuil family to help in the education of the Duke of Windsor. When he went into exile in France after the War, he bought an old watermill in the Vallée of the Mérantaise, which again is not too far away from the Château de Breteuil.

@@rexbarron4873They aren’t guests of mine or the majority of the British people. This should NEVER have been allowed to happen. These French people can’t even protect our borders that WE pay them to and they are suddenly expected to protect our monarchy?? Get a life mate!!

The French do actually the most military victories (1115) however we brits are closed to catch them up (1105)
Both Former and Greatest Colonial Empire, fought each since The Hundred Years, through the Seven Years War 1756-1763, The Napoleonic War 1804-1815 until we first decided to join forces during the Crimean War 1853-1856 against the Russians.
Queen Victoria woumdn’t mind and was pleased of this historic event
Marche de la Lorraine 2:50. This song was dedicated to French soldiers that were sent in Frontline, in Alsace et la Lorraine to protect it from the Germans (across the border)

@@raybenstead2548 Absolutely right. When the German Army attacked France by going through Belgium (for the second time), there were French tank units that did in fact put up effective resistance to them, but unfortunately they were too few. There was also the 2e DB - the second Armoured Brigrade that fought against the Germans in the latter part of the War. The determination of the Résistance in fighting the Germans, often in impossible situations should not to be forgotten.
