    There is a pretty cool show called "Engine Masters" they do a whole episode on these TB spacers. They do a lot of tests with different style spacers and different engines. They basically found that every engine reacts differently to them. I think the best numbers they saw was an 8 horse power gain, in some cases the cars lost power. Another factor they were all V8's and some were boosted applications. So I guess end result is it is a total crap shoot...probably not worth it on a N/A V6.
    I think the best thing people can do is figure out who they want to tune their car and get their input. They see tons of data every day to back up whatever part list they may recommend. In most cases since the tuner has no real affiliation with these vendors they don't have any biased interest in suggesting certain things either.

    Theoretically, in aerodynamics there is a concept of introducing turbulators to a structure in order to minimize the separation of air from the surface of an object. Separation can create small circulations at the back of the object as it travels through the air creating something called an adverse pressure gradient which can create excess drag upon the object. This is why they put dimples on golf balls so that they travel faster and farther. This however is a concept for external flow and I'm not sure how the existence of turbulators would work in an internal flow scenario to the same effect. Seems like bad science to me but I'll bring it up to my instructor.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  3 года назад +2

      Yes yes, the golf ball science is really cool. There is just too many contradictory concepts when it comes to intakes and throttle bodies. Smooth intake tubes to reduce turbulence and increase flow. Yet spacers that create turbulence to increase flow...
      But their explanation of the turbulence increasing pressure in the combustion chamber, that’s what I would like a deeper explanation about. Nonetheless, however logical the theory is, they don’t seem to work Lol

    • @garrettmastantuono8043
      @garrettmastantuono8043 3 года назад +2

      @@SpeedCultureStudios as a fluid (air In this case) moves inside of an internal flow It approaches something called fully developed where the velocity at the center of the tube is at its maximum and no longer changes with respect to time. However regardless of how this fluid acts inside of the tube It does not affect the pressure gradient in any meaningful way. Fluid will always move from high pressure to low pressure and the only thing that would increase The flow velocity would be if the outside pressure was somehow increased or the inside pressure was somehow decreased neither of which would be affected by the flow of the fluid In this case. The reason why they prefer nice smooth tubes is so The velocity of the fluid becomes fully developed sooner and you have a nice steady flow into the combustion chamber. I'm always happy to answer any questions you have to the best of my abilities. This does get more in-depth But I hope this kind of explains a little bit behind what you've undoubtedly researched.

    I do not know if it improves HP or Torque. However, what I do know is that they increase MPGs if you have a manual transmission (probably an automatic as well). I have one in a 2022 JLU with manual transmission and in 5th and 6th gear between 1500 and 2000 rpms you basically had a dead pedal. If in 6th you had to downshift for mild elevation changes and if you wanted to accelerate after dropping to 5th you might have to drop it to 4th. I do not have to do that any longer and it will hold 6th gear and if you want to accelerate you don't have to shift down to 4th anymore. Thus, you increase MPGs because you can stay in a higher gear. I confess that I created some of the problem when I put 2 inch taller tires and did not change the front and rear gears, but now I don't have to because the throttle response is so much better at lower RPMs.

    HP gains is purely a marketing angle for those that don’t understand their engines.
    I recommend researching the intake of the old Ford Taurus SHO and why a V6 had 12 intake tubes, but only 6 were operating at any one time.
    Whether or not a TB spacer will benefit you depends on how/where you drive and what modifications you’ve made between the combustion chamber and the tb.

  • @LujinCustom
    @LujinCustom 2 года назад

    Boost, NOS and displacement are the ONLY power adders. Most “performance” bolt-ons target reducing friction, therefore freeing up pre-existing power. Disconnect your power steering pump and notice the gains.
    If you understand when and where and why to run a single plane or dual plane intake manifold, you’ll better understand a tb spacer.
    No, it doesn’t give you ANY more power. But it does do, is change your power band.
    An LS already has a broad low to mid power band. Therefore it’s unlikely to notice any “gains” from one. However, a small 4 banger might feel a bit more low end torque improvement.

Test pipes and catback help and headers kinda sorta help, but the results don’t change much. You will make 335-340 hp with intakes, test pipes and catback. Or you can buy an eBay one for $60 and appreciate the better throttle response you'll get.

    I installed a Spacer with a drop in K&N air filter. It produces a deeper growl and better throttle response, on my 2010 CVPI. I also use a drop in K&N air filter on my work CVPI and the growl gained isn't as strong.

They even had a Dyno sheet with the 370z stock with muff delete. The hp was 6 plus 7lbs tq. I know every car is a bit different and some results vary. @@carlosmoody1615 this definitely works on a panther body car. Throttle response on a 4.6L with performance air filter and muffler delete or muffler and resonator delete is a notable difference. This is just shy of $200 worth of parts from factory. No Cold air intake. They don’t work properly unless tuned so I buy a $20 performance air filter and slap it in the factory air box and it works like a charm. Also I think the spacers work better on V8’s because of the torque difference and the intake manifold size.
