Corolla Hybrid now offers the option of all-wheel drive, but this is AWD with a big advantage. Instead of transfer gears and a driveshaft to the rear wheels, Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed.
The system works seamlessly and transparently, preemptively distributing driving force to the rear wheels to help suppress front wheel slip during off-the-line starts. It also engages the rear motor in response to slippage at the front wheels and enhances cornering agility by helping to reduce understeer. The driver can view torque distribution on the Multi-information Display and audio system screen.
The 2023 Corolla Hybrids also offer enhanced brake control, while the SE grades (FWD and AWD) inherit the firmer-feel Electronic Power Steering from the Corolla Apex Edition performance model.
There’s more power, there’s more traction, with Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD), as used in other Toyota Hybrids. And there are more model choices, with the Corolla Hybrid LE FWD gaining four new siblings: the LE AWD grade, sporty SE and SE AWD grades and a premium-focused XLE grade.
All 2023 Corolla Hybrid models gain a more powerful Toyota Hybrid System. As before, the system pairs a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gas engine with two motor-generators through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission.
A compact high-output/low-loss drive motor has been newly developed for the transaxle/motor, which includes a redesigned magnet and electromagnetic steel plate configuration with two additional magnets for increased output.
The new hybrid system also includes a newly developed lithium-ion battery that’s now located under the rear seat to lower the center of gravity and maximize trunk cargo capacity.
On 2023 Corolla Sedans, new front fascia styling varies across grades, and all receive LED daytime driving lights (DRL), with the SE, XSE and XLE grades also featuring redesigned LED headlights. The LE adds an updated rear bumper design, while the sporty SE and XSE get an all-new rear sport diffuser and feature new 18-inch Gloss Graphite-colored alloy wheels.

I have the 2023 Corolla hybrid sedan for almost 2.5 months now in my possession. I drive exclusively on eco mode, avoiding fast accelerations or hard brakes, coasting on descents whenever possible etc. I also get the impression that the activation of DCC on highway drives further optimizes fuel consumption. I am currently getting an average fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100 km for mostly suburban and urban drives.

It's even better if you put car on limiter, then there is no play on gas and you can accelerate quicker to the speed when you can drive on electric engine. My average fuel consumption from 500km on hybrid Yaris was 5,2/100 but it was 50% local roads (100-110) and 50% motorway (140-150). My tip for you in city driving is to accelerate quickly to 50 (or 60 if you prefer). The longer you accelerate to the speed the longer petrol engine works on inefficient revs. Cheers 🙂

And here I am, daily driving a Hellcat with a 6.2L, supercharged V8 engine with 700+ hp and I hammer it on every chance I have... the duality of life, one is too scared of accelerating, another drives a very fun death machine

Gorgeous show. Toyota Corolla Hybrid is done 100% in Japan.
The Toyota Takaoka Assembly Plant, also known as Takaoka Plant, was built in Toyota City, Aichi, Japan in 1966 to build the first Toyota Corolla (series KE10). Production officially began in January 1967 when production was transferred from the Toyota Motomachi plant.
The location continues to build the Corolla and was the manufacturing location for past and current models including the Toyota Publica, Toyota Sprinter, Toyota Carina, Toyota Tercel, Toyota Cynos, and the Toyota Prius. Its current size is 1,310,000 m2 (14,100,000 sq ft) and employs 3,150 people. This number of employees is from December 2011 and excludes fixed-term employees and short-term employees.
It also serves as a support location for various Toyota assembly locations internationally.

Fun fact - since December 2022 I drive a petrol corolla - mostly highway driving in Europe (90% of the time), but I am trying to drive as gently as possible - but not blocking the trucks like electric car drivers on the highway LOL. After having driving it for 65k km the average consumption is 5,23l/100km. I know it exactly, becaus it is a company car and every drop of petrol used by it is documented. So not that much differemce, Of course, if I would be driving more in the cities the gap between th epetrol and hybrid version would be much more visible.
And it makes me laugh when you say that this is a huge sedan... for me, especially compared with the previos toyota avensis, it is rather a carmpy, small compact car, not even very comfortable - the seats and the driving position is dramatic IMO. Apart of this I like toyota corolla, especially for it's overall quality, how it drives and how well it behaves on the roads and how flat and safe it seats in the fast narrow corners.

Will you do Autobahn consumption test? With 100 kmh to 130 kmh. I'm interested to buy Toyota hybrid but I think they consume more gas on Autobahn than diesel vehicles.

You're right, diesel only for the route.

Up to 130km/h not much difference, feel free to buy but also mind that Toyota has worse noise insulation, on other hand Toyota improved this factor on new Corolla and new Prius. If I were you I would ask for longer test drive. It shouldn't be an issue to take car for 2-3h and check all conditions and roads.
