  • Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke of a "historic moment" after his federal government and the premiers of the 16 states agreed on a series of measures to amend Germany's refugee policy.
    Benefits for refugees are more generous in Germany than in many other EU countries. Conservative politicians have described this as a "pull factor" attracting refugees to Germany, and have suggested paying out less or no more cash to new arrivals.
    Currently, it takes an average of six to 18 months for an asylum application to be processed. Until now, applicants would receive higher benefits after they had been in the country for 18 months. That threshold will now be extended to 36 months. Until then, the reduced rate of €410 (about $440) per month will apply. Benefits such as food in state accommodation are offset.
    After the announcement of the changes, Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that this could lead to savings of €1 billion. This would "not only relieve the burden on states and municipalities," he wrote, it would also "reduce the appeal of the German welfare state."
    To date, the states have had to renegotiate with the federal government every year about who pays what costs for the care of refugees. Now, there is to be a lump sum of €7,500 per refugee per year.
    So far in 2023, some 220,000 migrants have made an initial application for asylum. And of the 1 million Ukrainian refugees from the war, more and more are now registering with the authorities to be housed by the state.
    Cities and municipalities have long been asking for support with accommodation, ranging from a simplification of legal procedures to an increase in social housing programs.
    At the moment, there are around 250,000 people in Germany who have had their asylum applications rejected. Some people simply cannot be tracked down by authorities. But 200,000 of them can't be repatriated as there is either no country willing to take them in, or their country of origin is a war zone or they themselves have serious health issues that cannot be treated in their countries of origin.

    Germany will regret giving asylum to so many individuals who won't fit in into the german society and will build a parallel one which has totally different value set.

      Yep but the west lost the war. We have had multiculturalism vs state with Rome v indigenous and Egypt v Judaism. Then we had State v State within Europe and between old and new western national systems. Then we had Zionism v The state with WW2 and the state lost that war. It’s the most lied about period in human history by far. The real victory went to something larger and more powerful than this world has ever seen. Now the west is largely controlled by those victors and it will continue to get worse for western citizens. The EU will break shortly as it is the last powerful non Big J controlled institution.

    I’ve never understood why asylum seekers need to be given permanent residency. If they’re fleeing persecution surely they can be helped without giving them citizenship.

    • @DarkWanderer675
      @DarkWanderer675 8 месяцев назад +49

      Permanent residency is not the same as citizenship and does not confer the same rights. Moreover, while eligibility requirements for permanent residency are standardised across the EU, citizenship requirements are not. Each member state retains full control over its citizenship requirements and application process, and can choose whether or not to grant a citizenship application. Permanent residency is usually a prerequisite for citizenship, but does not guarantee or entitle the holder to citizenship.

    If you're fleeing a warzone with your wife and children, I can understand why temporary asylum is the right thing to do. The emphasis however is on families coming, and only temporarily. Giving citizenship to people who haven't entered through the proper citizenship processes is just wrong for the rest of us. I'm an American who is bidding for German citizenship and living in Germany, and I have to prove myself as an asset to German society. I came because I love German food, culture, and people. It's not fair that people don't have to go through such a hard process just because they're seeking "economic asylum". Economic asylum seekers should be deported en mass, you're not a family, you're not a woman or child, and you're not running from a warzone. You're a working or military age single man (far more often than not) who paid to be illegally smuggled into the country. If I try to smuggle goods on a plane into Germany, I get in huge trouble and, but if they smuggle in people it's just fine? How is any of that fair.

    On the other hand, if someone comes to Australia illegally and asks for asylum, they’re locked in prison camps forever and never see any Australian city or village because the county’s immigration policy says that “if you come by boat, you will never settle in Australia”. So, after spending sometime in those camps and understanding that the policy doesn’t change, they beg to be returned to their country.

    the problem is that germany has already a big shortage on living space, not talking affordable living space. we dont have enough space for more people, because our actual citizens are not getting enough living space. the sad thing is that we would NEED more migration, because germany is lacking skilled workers, academics and such. i would welcome everyone who wants to work here, hence everyone working here is paying their taxes here too. • @DailyDamage
    @DailyDamage 8 месяцев назад +3

    The main reason Germany has been allowing high immigration is the demographic issue. Alas, no one in government seems to feel it necessary to explain the fact that Germany needed 8 million immigrants - studies from 2010 - by 2030 to ensure that pensions can be paid and we are able to retain services at current levels.
    The main reason the government has turned on its pro immigration stance is the fact that the AFD is growing in power and that there is the real risk of them losing the next elections. Recent polls suggest 20+% votes for the AFD, which will make it one of the strongest parties in Germany. Thus, like the UK with Brexit and the conservatives kowtowing to their right wing and the risks of the growing Brexit party, we’ve seen a shift by the present government.
    The impact of a higher immigration base is being felt across the EU and the right is thus becoming stronger and stronger in many countries.
    Alas this shift kinda reminds me of 100 years ago: wars, economic decline, the rise of extremer right wing politics.
    Just saying

      @@RUHappyATM to an extent, I do. The old proviso: When in Rome…, seems to make sense. Personally I’m half German and half English. In England I’m the kraut and in Germany I’m the Pomme… that’s how others see me… and there are fairly large differences between these nationalities, however not as large as got someone non European and/or different religious outlook.
      I love Londons diversity and international base… however it’s got to a point now that over 60% are non British Londoner’s and the city is struggling to accommodate all the different back grounds into something people can identify with.
      Germanys first bout of immigration was in the 60s/70s and it took 1..2 generations for the local German born Turks to fully “fit” into German society.
      End of the day it is a given countries culture that one is entering. A culture that respects you and your rights for various freedoms. However with freedom comes responsibility and part of that is to become part of the society that one lives in.
      I know there is no “one size fits all” solution… it just isn’t an easy topic and many individual interests need to be taken into consideration.
