As a Mexican I really appreciate that you show the reality that scams like these could happen here. I think it’s a necessity to show this to others so they can avoid these situations.
@@TheCountryCollectors I don't like Xochimilco and I'm from CDMX living in Santa Monica California There are to many scammers there You need to negotiate for the hours you want If you're not satisfied threat them to go to another operator There is always inconvenience anywhere in the world when you travel Keep enjoying Mexico Greetings from the beautiful beach city of Santa Monica California 🇲🇽 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
@@ricardomartinez4341 thank you for sharing your experience with us Ricardo. It’s definitely a place that you need to be aware of before you go so you can be prepared just in case what happened to us happens to you!
Even after these events you two are such positive lights. You took a bad situation and chose to see the good. That's why I love you both. See you next Sunday.
The boat guys scammed you because they get away with it a lot. I can only imagine the clueless tourists who don’t speak Spanish are easy prey for those guys to make $$$ off of them. Good for you for drawing the line.
Love what you said Heidi! "You can't choose how other people are going to act towards you but you can always choose how you react to the situation." You two have such amazing attitudes even when things go awry and I can only imagine how shaken up you must have been. Thank you for warning others so hopefully people can go to Xochimilco and have an amazing time without falling victim to these scams! Those people should be ashamed of themselves.
@MaddieGold "Those people should be ashamed of themselves." lol, they aren't.😄 There's a saying in Mexico "El que no tranza no avanza" which really speaks volumes about Mexico as a whole.
So glad everyone is okay. It is really unfortunate this happened. Thanks for letting us know what to look out for, as much as this was a scary situation for you - you are helping others to not fall victim to this as well.
I’m glad you’re keeping it positive. I went to Xochimilco by myself as a single girl over Christmas and didn’t have any problems, also took an Uber from Reforma for $10. I loved it and will be going back every chance I get. I guess I did bargain with the boat, but knew it was supposed to be 500 pesos, so refused and walked away until they dropped it to that price. Micheladas seem to be 100 pesos everywhere there, and the rest of the street food “canal food” was about double what I saw in Mexico City, (I think the corn was 50 pesos) but to be expected. Two lessons learned: 1) NEVER take cabs in Mexico City, all the locals will insist on Ubers (except at the airport where they are properly registered). 2) always ask the price before you buy anything In Mexico, not matter what or where you are. I would also mention that more often than not I have had the experience of the helper that you met (rather than an angry crowd). When in doubt, I always walk up to a Mexican family or group of Mexican women, they are very helpful when needed. I’ve also been helped by plenty of men, but as a single girl, this is my go to tip for traveling in Latin American countries. Hope you keep enjoying Mexico, I went to 8 different states last year on 4 separate trips, absolutely loved it and have always felt safe :)
Great information! Thanks for sharing! Yes 🙌 always ask the price first. It’s truly such a beautiful country, grateful to be here. The people really do welcome you with open arms.
On behalf of all Mexicans who know about these scammers we apologize for this I know it is going to cost them clients because after an experience like that who will want to go there again
Thanks Guys!!! I'm one of the ones who researches everything and as many people told me of the rides on those boats I looked more into it. Then the YT algorithm gave me your vid and now I know how to walk into this next week when I visit. I'm a 28 year military person with 3 years under my belt in Afghanistan, does not surprise me what that vet did... It's called Character and Integrity and it makes me happy to hear how my brothers/sisters in the service carry it forward everywhere they go. Wish you the best out on the road 🙌
Adam and Heidi thank you for sharing this experience with us all. We are so sorry this happened to you. As we are planning our trip to CDMX now, this is very helpful. Glad to still see you're smiling!
I love that you two decided to look at the good out of this situation. I teared up hearing about David and his family that helped you and made you feel safe, especially his mother texting you guys afterwards!!! 🥺💖 I’m so sorry this happened to you guys. I hope one day you guys can go to Xochimilco again and have an amazing experience 💖
Heidi, Adam, I want to apologize for the behavior of these ppl in Mexico, and I really want to thank u for ur positive view of my country. You at no point said anything bad about Mexico and just gave us the facts of what happened. In a different note, I binged watched all ur vids, u guys do a great job finding the cheapest way to enjoy. Safe travels.
Hi Claudia! We love your country. And know that scams happen everywhere! Yep, just the facts so people can avoid this when they go. Hope you have a wonderful day!
I'm glad you guys are ok❤️ yes this happens sometimes in Mexico. And it happens to both foreign and Mexican tourists. Just never buy outside of your itinerary. Stay safe guys and don't let this spoil your trip❤️ it's a learning travel lesson.
I learned the hard way about getting shots without asking how much they are at a night club in CDMX. Glad you guys didn’t get injured. Thanks for sharing your story.
We were just there a week before you posted this. We encountered the jerks on the motorbikes and their scams. We did not believe them that the port we wanted to use was closed and we told them NO GRACIAS and tried to lose them. The kept blocking the road in front of us and forcing us another way until we came to their port of choice. Which was not our port of choice. Then he insisted on following us around to choose a boat. This confirmed to us that we were being scammed. We also knew the boat prices from previous research and didn’t like the gringo prices. We walked away many times and even down to another port where it was slightly cheaper than the last one but still not the advertised price at other ports. The motorcycle guy was pushy and downright dangerous. By far the worst scam we have encountered in our travels through Mexico by car which is several thousand km. We also overall loved Xochilmilco but this is a very important scam to warn folks about. Thanks for shedding light on this. We always watch your videos and they are very helpful but this time we beat you there!! Safe travels friends!
Oh gosh - so sorry you encountered this too! Blocking the road!? Wow. It’s something that needs to be addressed. I really don’t like the aggression. Glad you enjoyed the boat though too. Thanks for being here and supporting us. Hope you have a wonderful day!
@@TheCountryCollectors thanks. It was incredibly aggressive! We lost him a few times and he came back after us! He literally kept blocking the roads and he was yelling and pointing at us and the way he wanted us to go even though we told him NO in two languages! It was unnerving. We were in our own US plated vehicle. When we parked, he parked and followed us to the boats but when we left that port he sat down on a curb and watched us and was going to leave when we left so we paid someone to watch the truck and we walked down to the next port instead of driving and parking again. We also settled on a higher rate than we should have for the boat, but really just wanted to salvage what was left of the day. We also didn’t want to be followed and harassed by the man on the motorbike any further. We have a dash cam which was malfunctioning but it’s appearance did not seem to deter him or his hijacking of our route. CDMX traffic is a nightmare without all these issues added to the mix. But this experience would definitely discourage me from driving in the city again. I would recommend folks to take a cab or Uber around here instead.
So sorry that happened to you all. What a great ending though…such a wonderful family that brighten that day! The city should really consider shutting down that scam port…or at least warn people about it.
I'm from Guadalajara, I had visited Xochimilco 8 years ago and all I can say is that I TOTALLY understand you guys for what you've been through, couldn't help but getting really upset as I was hearing you. Even me, as mexican, I did not have the best experience there because of what you say, I did not ask for the price of the meals first and guess what? I ended up paying 25 USD for something that costs 5 USD or less, the meal was cold and don't get me started on drinks; but I mean, it was my first time and I was so naive. I guess the reason why there's a famous "saying" here in Mexico that directly translates to "You lack malice" is because of stuff like this and it shouldn't be that way. I appreciate you guys having a positive point of view and keeping the same love towards my country, one bad experience surely will not take down the other hundred good ones that you've had and is great that you share this with the rest of the people that want to come here, not to prevent them from coming but to keep them from those bad guys and still enjoy their vacations like they should. There are more loving and caring people than bad ones for sure. Lastly, I want to give an advice to everyone who have in plans coming to any city, especially Ciudad de Mexico: Prioritize an Uber over a yellow cab, these fellows (not everyone, but most of them) will always try to charge you more than what you should pay, and if you ever do take a yellow cab don't be afraid to bargain the cost of the ride, they rather take what you offer instead of not taking any ride. Much love from Guadalajara, loving your channel so much! ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and your thoughtful advice. I’m really sorry to hear that you had a tough time on your visit too. It can be such a letdown when things don’t go as planned, especially when it comes to food-25 USD for a cold meal is definitely rough! But I love that you still hold on to the positive side and recognize all the good that Mexico has to offer. We couldn’t agree more that one bad experience shouldn’t overshadow all the amazing ones. It’s great to know that there are so many loving and caring people out there, and it’s a reminder to always stay optimistic. Your advice about prioritizing Uber over yellow cabs is super helpful, especially for those visiting for the first time. It’s all about being prepared and staying aware. Thanks again for watching, sharing your story, and for the tips. Let’s keep encouraging others to experience the beauty of Mexico while staying savvy. Safe travels to you on your next adventures!
Thank you for your honest review. I am glad that the situation ended well and you had help from a lovely Mexican family. You are right, no matter what city or country you go to, there are always bad people wanting to take advantage of tourists. This is not just a Mexico thing and this should not disuade anyone from visiting. As with anywhere, like you do Heidi, people need to do their homework first to know what to expect for pricing and options. Then listen when the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up telling you something is off. Reviews are so important. I love your attitude to choose Happy! That is what life is all about😊 Love you both and so happy you are okay 🥰
Saludos.
Omg what a roller coaster of emotions .. I am so happy you are all ok and nothing more serious happened. That family were angels sent you .. thank god they helped protect you all. There are amazing people in this world. This sis not change how I feel about Mexico .. it’s still a magical place, thank you so much for sharing your story 😘
We lived in Guadalajara, Mexico over 50 years ago. This sounds like nothing has changed in that beautiful country with lovely people and a few bad actors. Thanks for warning folk. I appreciate the positive attitude and wisdom you share.
Lamentablemente en todos los países pasan estás estafas, como consejo para ir a Xochimilco tienen que ir con alguien que sea local o mexicano para que no les suceda lo mismo
Thank you so much guys for your video, Im Mexican/Australian and really appreciate you don't put down the whole country, you just focus in the situation. I can't wait to visit Mexico again.❤❤❤🎉😊
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I love Mexico and I think you did a marvelous job sharing your love for the country while sharing some much needed precautionary advice. My husband and I go every year to PV and this year we’d planned on taking in Mexico City and doing that exact tour and we still will but now we’re armed with your warnings and know what to beware of
Glad you guys decided to put this video online. Others who haven't traveled much need to know to keep attentive and "know before you go". Keep smiling!!
So sorry this happened to you guys. I don't understand why someone would try and scam tourists at an attraction that so heavily relies on the tourist dollar. These incidents will harm all of the boat operators in the long run. Instead of this tactic they should try to provide an excellent experience that would get them a nice tip in the end. I'm so glad you guys didn't get hurt. Happy travels 😀
Most Mexicans working on the unregulated market are uneducated and very primitive. I’m Mexican myself, and it’s really frustrating to see that a lot of people in my country have such a short view about business and money.
I’m so sorry that happened to all of you. I’m really proud of you for standing your ground and not letting them scam you. Thank you for letting us know what goes down in the canals. You guys are such sweet people even when you got scammed you both were thankful to Mexico.
Hey stuff happens and it’s important to just realize that and learn the lesson. No need to bring down this beautiful country because of a couple of bad apples! 🙂
I’ve traveled the world, and rarely have I met a more gracious and kind people as you find in Mexico. There are scammers and crime unfortunately, but the good usually outweighs the bad.
Such a helpful video! Thanks guys and sorry to hear about this happening! This will help a lot of people in the future for sure. Have a great Sunday funday - Luke & Naomi x
Adam and Heidi I am so glad you decided to make the video this way as a sort of disclaimer, going step by step through the negative experience and not showcase the boat ride itself. Any festive footage would have trivialized the seriousness of the situation. I know you guys don't usually make these type of videos but the fact is these scams do take place unfortunately and one of the best ways to raise awareness and avoid them is through videos like this! So on behalf of everyone who's watched and everyone who will watch and not fall for their scam Thank You! Thank you for your honesty and transparency about the situation. It lets us know that you really do care about the viewers and that we're in good hands. :) I can't wait till the next video! Please stay safe and congrats on 30k!! You deserve much more.🥳🙏
I’ve been traveling alone in Mexico for the past two months am on my way to Chiapas. I have watched so many of your videos and I find it SOOOO helpful. Seriously. Thank. You. Both. SOOOO much!! Much love!
Wow, sounds like you had a learning experience! I’m so glad that you found some people to help you and that you were all safe. You two have such a good attitude about all this- not having this scam taint your view of Mexico. Thank you for sharing this story as I’m sure it will help others in the future. You are gems 💎 💎. Sending love and positive vibes from Canada 🥰💗🙏
Hi Nancy! Thanks so much for being here. Hey - things happen! And there are scams anywhere you go. Just gotta remember the lesson and move forward. Yes we hope this helps some people avoid these scams in the future!
@@TheCountryCollectors wow, you’re fast Heidi! I just submitted my comment. You’re right, things do happen but I always like to think of these situations as learning experiences and it’s so important to share with other travellers. So again, thanks for all your hard work. Please stay safe and happy!! 😀🥰🙏💗
Honestly, this video gave me so much relief. I watch travel videos with anxiety because they all present the rosiest picture and I spend the whole time wondering what the real truth is. Like was that really the 99th "great meal" in a row? Anyone who has traveled a lot knows all kinds of bad things happen. Not usually due to bad people, but things go wrong. We get on the wrong bus. We have a bad meal or food poisoning. The beautiful thing about it is that most negative experiences end up delivering a rich experience that you wouldn't trade, like meeting David, if you could go back and get it right. The full thrill and joy of travel can't be realized without negative experiences. So, this video was helpful and refreshing. So glad you guys are safe and moving on with your usual graceful perspective. Thank you.
You’re so right about the silver lining. Up until this point we hadn’t had a bad experience here. And that’s in over a year and a half! But it’s responsible to tell people when things go wrong. To show not everything is peachy all the time. Because you’re right - things do happen, it’s inevitable. We just hope this video can help others avoid these scams when they go.
💖💖You two have an amazingly great attitude towards this- respectfully acknowledging that you’re outsiders but also sticking up for yourselves. And finding the fantastic support among other Mexicans, who were of course lovely humans. 💕💖😘✌🏼
Thanks Alex. We try to look at everything from many different perspectives. Acknowledging the why.. even if we don’t agree with it. Hope this video can help others avoid this!
Also thank you for sharing this at all! Everyone gets scammed from time to time, even at home, and it’s easy to retreat into shame and feel it was your fault. If we are warm and trusting human beings, we’re gonna get burned every once in a while. Still worth it!
Thank you for sharing your experience. That’s why I watch your channel, for the truth & honesty and your genuine kindness. You did a fantastic job explaining what happened & what to look for. Safe travels. ❤️
I’m sorry that this had happened to you and glad that you came out of the situation relatively safe. Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing your experience and how you’re making a choice to stay positive about it. Much love from Southern California ❤️
I’m SO glad you shared this. You did not change my view of the country, just reminded me that there is a potential scammer everywhere you go. I really appreciate the information, because unlike you all, we would have paid full price for everything and would have gone with the flow. We wouldn’t have either had the skills, knowledge or language to be able to negotiate.
Oh no. You are right violence is never the answer. I am so sorry Ruben was pushed like that and you were taken advantage of. Glad that family was there to help you out. Unfortunately events like this happen all over the world.
So scary. Unbelievably happy that you guys are okay. Such a crappy feeling to know you’re getting scammed & there really wasn’t anything you could do about it. Love that you’re both still positive. Please be careful!
Saludos Heidi y Adam.
Hearing this was still scary. I'm glad in the end it all worked out for you... thanks for your candidness. It is important for travelers to be aware of the truth.
You are such positive people, I'm amazed. I feel bad for Rueben but was expecting much worse from your last video, glad he wasn't hurt worse. There are idiots like that boat driver everywhere in the world and you understand that, but David's mother was so concerned that you would hate Mexico because of this incident that she took really good care of you, she loves Mexico that much. Keep your cool is the motto for the day. Happy that all of you are safe.
Thanks Cindy! Yes we are too. It could have escalated for sure if the police weren’t there. Grateful for everyone who helped us. Have a wonderful day. Choose happy.
Since you shared your experience, this could save so many people from a bad situation. Not just in Mexico but all over! We are headed to Puerto next week and are soooo excited to go back. Thanks for all that you do! Way to go Adam standing up for your friend when you definitely were outnumbered. Says a lot about you and your character. God bless you guys in your travels and keep sharing!!
That’s what we hope for! Not to scare people or say anything negative - just to warn people. We have had handfuls to people blame us and say it was all our fault that this happened - which I don’t agree with at all. This happens to locals and seasoned travelers. The scammers are so good at making you feel like they are helping you and not taking advantage of you. They are professionals. And after being here for so long and not encountering any such scams you do tend to be a bit more trusting than maybe you should be… but lesson learned! Now we all know what to look out for! 😃 Thanks for watching and for your support!
Great video guys! Very informative and also very unfortunate. This event will definitely not go in vein thanks to you two and how y’all broke it down was very helpful and it looked like y’all had some good fun too. So glad y’all made it out safely and having a few angels by you guys made the difference.
Wow! What an experience. I love how you stay positive no matter what! It truly was a blessing to meet those wonderful people in the end that came to your rescue. Sadly as a solo female traveller in Mexico, I have been a victim of several scams but I still hang on to the positive. The negative expériences have only made me smarter and more aware. Great video The CountryCollectors ☺️👍👌
Hey we have to try to find the lesson in every situation right? It makes us wiser! I’m sorry to hear about your scams, but glad that you also have stayed positive. Thanks for being here! Have a great day.
Que pena que les haya pasado eso chicos cuídense mucho ! Hay mucha gente que se aprovecha cuando ven que son turistas por es mejor informarse antes de ir a un lugar cuáles son los precios regulares y que es lo que está incluido!! Los amo😍
So glad you are both safe it is so easy for those situations to escalate. We went with locals and I know if we didn't we would have been scammed. We basically didn't talk when our local friends negotiated everything lol. It can happen to anyone anywhere. You really never realize what's happening until it's too late. Keep safe my friends and keep going you are a light that everyone needs to see!
"Always be willing to walk away." is so true, and know the fair deal is close always close by. Great video. I've seen this moment of scams going to far many times. Never choose crazy but always make sure they know you will fight before being assaulted. ✌
Travel vlogs like this with useful info and a powerful story are a gem. I’m still looking forward to visiting CDMX and the boats !! Thank you for sharing!
I am Canadian living/working in Mexico. Mexican people are incredible! Kind and welcoming. Just like any other big city, you see or face similar situation. I am glad you are both safe. Enjoy this fanastic country.. Oaxaca is a great place to visit!
Hi You Two…Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I think it’s very important to “keep things real”-the good, bad, and the ugly. My husband, sister in law, and myself went to Xochimilco last December. We had a blast but it definitely is a place you can get scammed in terms of all the “extras” that they try and throw on to your trip. We were fortunate to have had a really positive time but I can see how quickly things could go South if you’re not really careful. You did the best you could under a very trying time. Am so glad you had such wonderful good Samaritan’s at the end. What a blessing! The cab driver being part of the scam reminds me of times we had in Morocco when friends and family are part of getting you derailed. They are all in it together; everyone trying to make a buck which is understandable but hard for tourists. I always appreciate your respect for the culture you are in and your obvious love of México which I am in total agreement. Things happen anywhere; there are always bad people, as you said. The important thing is not letting it affect your overall appreciation of the country which clearly it hasn’t and to remain sharp and savvy wherever you travel.
Cathy! So great hearing from you and glad to hear you had such an enjoyable time in Xochimilco! We can’t wait to go back, just a bit more prepared this time! Hope this helps other avoid these scams. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a fantastic day.
Sad to hear that happened to you, but yes it is a scam! 😤 Normally they place the bucket, and you only drink what you are going to pay. They are known to do that...stay away from those guys on the bikes. 😤 Love you guys🥰
Hello to you both! That was a huge learning experience and I am glad you all are safe! Research, and more research! And you are so right, that this sort of thing/scam happens all over the world. Thank you for sharing! 🙂Take care!
Your friend from Spain should have told the police he wanted to "denunciar" or press charges for the assault. Also a complaint should be made to the PROFECO which is Mexico's consumer protection agency. I watched a video from another traveler who experienced the exact same scam for this particular boat dock at Xochimilco....I'll try and find it and post it. Thanks for posting because this will help to root out the bad from the good. And you're right, this crap happens all over the world and it should be exposed and disseminated so that the authorities are made aware and take action.
This is Paul.... and Gloria in Oaxaca. We've been to Xochimilco three times. We were never scammed exactly, but we did pay a little bit more than we should have; luckily, each time we were on a tour, which included the trajineras. We had a great time, each time. It was a lot of fun. The first time we went was in 2004 & everything cost a little less. The last time we went was in March of this year. Again, we were on a tour, but we still got a little overcharged on food and mariachis. Fortunately, other people we were with, absorbed most of the cost. Once back at the dock we couldn't help, but notice the big sign with the posted prices, 500 pesos for the boats and prices for food and mariachis too. That's how we know we were overcharged on the food.
Really sad this happen to you guys, last year I went to Nativitas embarcadero with family and friends and had a beautiful time 2 hrs for 700 pesos took a cooler with beer and water but it looks like there is a group of bad people scamming turist in that area I’m sorry they got you and glad your ok plz keep going and see in another video..
Oh wow that sounds like an absolute blast! So happy you got to enjoy it. Yes I think there are just some bad people around that area taking advantage of people.
U guys are just the Best. Period. 🥺❤ I'm so sorry you experience that. Xochimilco is such a fun place for tourists and locals. Thank you for your advice to others and for deciding to keep the Good memories out of that visit ❤ greetings from a mexican born and raised in mexico City who loves your channel!!
Im from here in Mexico city and something similar happened to us,you now what? I'll never coming back to that place,it's so sad dough, stupid people are everywhere,on the other hand I'm so glad you guys are ok,i send you a big hug,and I'm sorry for the bad experience .🙏🙏🙏
Wow! I am so glad you are all safe! I truly appreciate your honest feed back. Not everyone wants to show this part of travel. Thank you and safe travels! I’m with you guys in spirit enjoying it with you 😄
Thanks for being such a positive couple. I enjoy a lot your videos. We need more People like you guys in this world which enjoy life whit attitud and respect!! Welcome to our country!
Thank you for the information. We’re now better prepared for our next trip because of your efforts. I’m glad it didn’t escalate beyond what you described and all four of you are safe. As usual, you made the right choice. Props to Heidi and Laura for holding back Adam aka “The Beast from the East” and to David for his support. Good people are everywhere. Some make videos!Keep up the awesome work. 👏🏼 I’ll buy a few coffees for your next unsolicited Corona bucket! 🍻🪣
You’re amazing Pete!! I’m glad this will help you, that’s what we were hoping for. Haha love that!! There are more good people than bad people - by far and that is what we need to remember!
Im in Mexico City right now and you are so right about ALWAYS asking about the price first!!! This taxi driver seemed like a nice man and first red flag was he said his meter wasn’t working then charged us 500 pesos when the same ride previously cost us 70! With the same type of taxi (pink and white )It ended up being quite scary unfortunately but will be more careful now
This is one of the things that I love about Mexico, that people are so kind and helpful. There are scammers and nasty people everywhere, so good for you for choosing happiness. The majority of Mexican people are lovely.
I am so so sorry that this happened to you two! How scary! So glad Ruben was there, that the incredible family stepped in and made you feel so much better about it. I am so happy you’re safe and happy and realize that these things do happen. It’s a great learning situation.
I think it's good that you posted this video simply so people are informed. I see what happened as the culmination of a series of errors that you inadvertently made. As you said, you normally research like crazy prior to your adventures. Had you been able to do that, you probably would've known that those things happen and been able to avoid them. I'm glad everyone came out (mostly) unscathed, you met a wonderful family, and really did have a great time on the boat. When I went to Xochimilco it was a weekday. Hardly any people, fewer boats, almost nothing open, and no option to get off the boat during the ride. Aside from the money issues you had, I'm convinced you had the better day. Continue to be the types of people that choose optimism, and you're right, Mexico has a lot of beautiful people - Anne
Hi Anne! Yes you are absolutely right. If I had done some more research maybe I would have read about the scam, but maybe not. We hadn't been scammed or taken advantage of in a really long time either so we were not "on the lookout" for this type of thing. But hey! Lesson learned! Thanks for watching and writing to us.
You guys are great , it is good that I found your channel randomly, take care, always be suspicious, México city is a multi headed monster, I lived there for many years, yeah it have great places to visit, lots of cultural and beautiful places but...
Hi Ramon! Thank for being here and commenting - great to connect. Yes there’s always some risk - especially at tourist places like this. But hey it happened and we learned a lesson that hopefully helps other too and now we can move on!
Very good update, remember you need to talk about this issues. Those people they are delinquents they do every day. And government need to know about them.
I am so sorry, this happened to you, and glad that you are ok, unfortunately these things happen more often than not, it is a good idea to carry A taser, I am from Mexico but I do get nervous because it has happened to me, and my family, so many negative experiences, also watch out when you have your camera out filming, they would just grab and run, I do not want to scare you but just keep your eye open, and if you feel like something is not right, it isn’t, love you guys!!
That is all great 👍 information thank you so much Patricia. I am sorry you have had to deal with experiences like this. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt.
Dang! That’s crazy! We just went there yesterday! Luckily my wife did some reviews on google and we’re made aware of it. Instead of choosing to go alone we decided it was best to book with a credible group on Expedia. Which included food, unlimited drinks and bathroom for about $60 per person. The group we went on was awesome and we had a blast! On our way there we we’re approach by a few guys on bikes to informing us the Nativitas port was closed! We informed him that we already bought our ticket and he kept trying to tell us we got scammed because Nativitas port is closed! We told our Uber driver to stay the course. Totally agree with you guys that if they want more business they should just be fair with their prices. Glad you guys made it out safe and unharmed! Props to David for stepping in and helping!
That is great to hear you booked with a group and had such a nice time! Those guys need to be stopped. So many people have commented that they have done the same thing to them and either they had watched the video and knew to ignore them or had fallen victim as well. I understand they want the business at the other ports but there has to be a better way of directing traffic there.
Hello Adam & Heidi, I am sorry you had to go through this negative experience. Unfortunately, these scammers are everywhere and they are cancer in any society, specially in Mexico where it finally feels like we are getting over a lot of stigmas from the past. I am Mexican too but I live in the US, and every time I go back to visit I too need to be aware of them and be careful. A couple of years ago I did go to Xochimilco with my family on a Wednesday afternoon, and there was not a whole lot of people there as there is on weekends. Something didn't feel right with me and after traveling across the city to get there, I decided to turn around and walk away, luckily I was driving a rental, so it was not a big problem for me. Sometimes, you get the feeling that something is not right and just try again some other time. I am still yet to visit, but one these days I will try again! Love your RUclips channel, I follow you consistently, please keep up the channel it is fantastic!
It's always good to take a picture of the car plates and name of the driver, also you can report to Profeco when they raised the prices in The products because they control that also you can report this incident to the secretaria de turismo de la CD. de México.
I subscribed cause you guys are so gentle and kind and so careful to give an honest warning when we travel to that place. We actually are traveling right now in different places in Mexico and your advise it been very helpful . Thank you for the video
I am sorry this happened to you, and I appreciate you sharing this experience with all of us. I was VERY HAPPY there were kind souls who stepped in to help you. Mexico is SUCH an incredible country, and it is sad that you ran into a few rotten eggs on that day. But as Heidi said, there are bad people all over the world. In no way, does this video change my extremely POSITIVE thoughts about Mexico. Be safe and have fun!!
¡Saludos! I am Elaine and a recently retired teacher (46 years in the Spanish language classroom in the US). I have made many trips to Mexico and Spain with and without students. 30 years ago I was on a 10 day trip to Mexico with 10 female students and 3 chaperones. A trip to Xochimilco was included in the excursion which occurred on a Sunday. The day before the excursion, our currier told me to order lunches “to go” for our excursion from our hotel for the next day, which I did. We traveled by bus from our hotel directly to Xochimilco (which is actually a national park) without any problems. We visited Mexico at the end of June. In those days there were a lot less scams going on. In my opinion, we were the only Americans visiting Xochimilco that afternoon. We spent more or less 2 1/2hours just floating the canals and admiring the Mexican family’s enjoying the day. Seemed that every Mexican family had a member of the family who played the guitar. Got some very impressive photographs of some beautiful children enjoying the afternoon with their parents. I made posters of these photos to display in my classroom. There were some women selling flowers, but nothing of what you unfortunately had to endure. I have since then visited other states of Mexico, and I usually travel alone. What I did like about Mexico in the past was that Mexico had an innocence and was less sophisticated than Spain. I am glad that I was able to visit Xochimilco when I did. Except for Barcelona and the areas in Andalucía where the Brits vacation, none of what you have experienced in Xochimilco exists in Spain. I have just discovered your channel. Hope to vicariously travel with you again in the future. De Elaine la profe en NJ
Thank you so much for sharing this. You painted a visual picture that I thoroughly enjoyed. We are happy to have you and to receive your stories and memories here.
Dear Adam and Heidi, I am so sorry that this happen even since I subscribed to your Chanel, I pray for you that this unfortunate situation never happens again take care, sending you blessings hugs and kisses🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰please take care.
Hello you guys, I am really sorry you experienced this kind of rip off, you have to be careful, anyone who approaches want something. These people are well trained to get away with their purposes. Just consider, they are there to run their business and obviously to make money, in a way they felt insulted when you friend told them, bottle of water cost .50 cts. usd across street. When doing negotiations with vendors, don’t get to friendly, they used it for their interest. They intended to be friendly, pleasant and willing to go extra mile but… expect something in return. Being Mexican American also have it experienced. Now strictly business talking when travel. Hope this not change you perception of our country, as you know.. there is good and bad everywhere… We need to take control. Blessings both. ❤️
Hello. Oh we absolutely understand this can happen anywhere. Just wanted to help others who are thinking about going to avoid this! Thanks for your words and sharing information with us. We will be more cautious now - but of course love your country!
I've been watching your videos for sometime now. This is my first comment. it is unfortunate this happened to you guys. I'm actually from Mexico City and have visited Xochimilco many times. It is true about the persons on motorcycles who are not to be trusted, but what happened to you about the bucket of drinks seems to be a simple misunderstanding. The way it works is they will leave you a bucket filled with drinks you ask like beer, waters, sodas etc for you to consume during your ride and will count the empty bottles you drank and charge you only for those you opened AFTER you return. It almost like a honor system. We've never had a problem. This bucket has never been included as part of the trajinera cost in my experience. It's always a separate/optional expense. Hope you will revisit again someday and have a better experience now that you know what you should pay and expect. Keep up the good videos.
Uggg. I’m so sorry y’all had this experience but you handled it like real champs. Next time you are in town we will take you and have a blast! Thank you for being fair, open and honest!

Thanks Maddie! We hope this helps others avoid all their tactics! Now we know. You live and you learn! 😄
@MaddieGold "Those people should be ashamed of themselves."
lol, they aren't.😄 There's a saying in Mexico "El que no tranza no avanza" which really speaks volumes about Mexico as a whole.

On behalf of all Mexicans who know about these scammers we apologize for this
I know it is going to cost them clients because after an experience like that who will want to go there again
Yes David it’s very unfortunate.
Yes. People will complain quicker when it's a bad experience.
Exactly, it’s a place a will not visit that I know this.
Scammers are everywhere in the world. I've never had a problem in Mexico!
Thank you, you too. Yes just avoid this embarcadero at all costs. Nativitas is where to go!!

Hi Juanita! Weren’t they just angels? They really made that experience so much better and it’s them who we will remember!
I’m happy everyone is safe! Thank you for being transparent and showing us how some things can be unknowingly. ❤️
Absolutely. It’s our job to do so. We don’t want anyone else to go through this!
I'm glad you guys are ok❤️ yes this happens sometimes in Mexico. And it happens to both foreign and Mexican tourists. Just never buy outside of your itinerary. Stay safe guys and don't let this spoil your trip❤️ it's a learning travel lesson.
Hi Gloria! Oh yes, travel teaches you a lot. We appreciate your kind words and encouragement.
I learned the hard way about getting shots without asking how much they are at a night club in CDMX. Glad you guys didn’t get injured. Thanks for sharing your story.
Absolutely. Hey these are all learning experiences!
@@1972xlh wow that is frightening! I don’t I what I would have done in that situation.
So sorry that happened to you all. What a great ending though…such a wonderful family that brighten that day! The city should really consider shutting down that scam port…or at least warn people about it.
Yes they should do something about it. Those guys on motorbikes 🏍 who tell the lies first should be stopped.
Hi Carolyn! Yes so are we. And we understand that there are scams everywhere. Just hope pointing this out helps some people!

Hi Derek. Yes it’s very unfortunate. I hope something happens to change this. Thanks for being here!

Most Mexicans working on the unregulated market are uneducated and very primitive. I’m Mexican myself, and it’s really frustrating to see that a lot of people in my country have such a short view about business and money.

Adam and Heidi I am so glad you decided to make the video this way as a sort of disclaimer, going step by step through the negative experience and not showcase the boat ride itself. You too! Have a great day!
If this is the only bad thing that's happened to you, you are much better travelers than me 😆 ❤️

Also thank you for sharing this at all! Everyone gets scammed from time to time, even at home, and it’s easy to retreat into shame and feel it was your fault. If we are warm and trusting human beings, we’re gonna get burned every once in a while. Still worth it!

I’m SO glad you shared this. You did not change my view of the country, just reminded me that there is a potential scammer everywhere you go. I really appreciate the information, because unlike you all, we would have paid full price for everything and would have gone with the flow. Oh no. You are right violence is never the answer. I am so sorry Ruben was pushed like that and you were taken advantage of. Glad that family was there to help you out. Unfortunately events like this happen all over the world.
You’re right - they do. And luckily it didn’t escalate any further.
So scary. Unbelievably happy that you guys are okay. Such a crappy feeling to know you’re getting scammed & there really wasn’t anything you could do about it. Love that you’re both still positive. Please be careful!

Hi Stephen! Thanks for being here. Yes we hope this helps others avoid these guys!
💕❤️💕❤️ Love you! Next time we will be prepared!
"Always be willing to walk away." is so true, and know the fair deal is close always close by. Great video. I've seen this moment of scams going to far many times. Never choose crazy but always make sure they know you will fight before being assaulted. ✌
Thank you. Happy to see this video has helped people avoid this scam as well.
Travel vlogs like this with useful info and a powerful story are a gem. I’m still looking forward to visiting CDMX and the boats !! Thank you for sharing!
It’s our pleasure. Hope it helps you when planning your trip there!
I am Canadian living/working in Mexico. Mexican people are incredible! Kind and welcoming. Just like any other big city, you see or face similar situation. I am glad you are both safe. Enjoy this fanastic country.. Oaxaca is a great place to visit!
We love Oaxaca! Spent a bunch of time there. Such a wonderful country!
Mexican people are the best. Certainly a lot nicer than Canadians. 😢
Love you too!! Oh that’s too bad! Really unfortunate. Hope this helps others!
Hello to you both! That was a huge learning experience and I am glad you all are safe! Research, and more research! And you are so right, that this sort of thing/scam happens all over the world. Thank you for sharing! 🙂Take care!
Hi Diana. Thanks 🙏 for being here! It sure was!
Thank you for sharing to prevent anyone else getting scammed like this.
Hi Tanya! Absolutely!
That’s too bad. Since posting we have heard of many people having the same issues. Hope something happens to change this.
Thanks for sharing this. What embarcadero were you at? The Nativitas?
@@TheCountryCollectors I don't know which Port we were at; although it was quite large with plenty of space for tourist buses and vans.
Really sad this happen to you guys, last year I went to Nativitas embarcadero with family and friends and had a beautiful time
2 hrs for 700 pesos took a cooler with beer and water but it looks like there is a group of bad people scamming turist in that area I’m sorry they got you and glad your ok plz keep going and see in another video..
Oh wow that sounds like an absolute blast! So happy you got to enjoy it. Yes I think there are just some bad people around that area taking advantage of people.
Responsible video you have shared with everyone. Thanks for choosing Happy ! Hope your friends are doing ok.
Yes they are good, thank you! We just really hope this helps people!
Hi! Yes gotta just keep positive and move forward. Thanks for being here!
Dang that sucks! I’m so sorry that happened to you too. It’s such a shame. Glad you’re okay too!
Wouldn’t be better go back but this time you know better and are prepare? Basically you letting a scammer rule your life.
Wow! I am so glad you are all safe! I truly appreciate your honest feed back. Not everyone wants to show this part of travel. Thank you and safe travels! I’m with you guys in spirit enjoying it with you 😄
We’re so happy to have you here!
I am glad you guys are ok. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Marta! Thanks so much.
Thanks for being such a positive couple. I enjoy a lot your videos. We need more People like you guys in this world which enjoy life whit attitud and respect!! Welcome to our country!
Thank you so much Jose!
There are lots of good people in this world and the veteran (David) who just step up to help was amazing. Thanks for exposing this scam.
David and his family are the best. Thanks for being here with us.
With the same type of taxi (pink and white )It ended up being quite scary unfortunately but will be more careful now
Oh no that’s terrible I’m so sorry!!
This is one of the things that I love about Mexico, that people are so kind and helpful. There are scammers and nasty people everywhere, so good for you for choosing happiness. The majority of Mexican people are lovely.
Yes they are! So warm and welcoming!
I am so so sorry that this happened to you two! How scary! So glad Ruben was there, that the incredible family stepped in and made you feel so much better about it. I am so happy you’re safe and happy and realize that these things do happen. It’s a great learning situation.
It sure is Natalie. We learned a lot and now will hopefully prepare others for this when they go! 💕
Thanks for sharing your story and offering a great perspective.
It’s our pleasure and responsibility! Thanks for being here!
@@TheCountryCollectors 🥰😍🤩
Very good update, remember you need to talk about this issues. Those people they are delinquents they do every day. And government need to know about them.
Yes we thought the same. It’s our responsibility to talk about it and being awareness to these issues.
Thank God you’re safe, the information is very valuable, we can’t wait for your next video be safe, lots of love Nanae and Kenneth.
Thanks so much for being here you two! Glad you found the information valuable!
I am so sorry, this happened to you, and glad that you are ok, unfortunately these things happen more often than not, it is a good idea to carry A taser,
I am from Mexico but I do get nervous because it has happened to me, and my family, so many negative experiences, also watch out when you have your camera out filming, they would just grab and run, I do not want to scare you but just keep your eye open, and if you feel like something is not right, it isn’t, love you guys!!
Whoa! Thank you for sharing this with us. So glad you are both safe, but wiser, and so glad you had a Momma looking after you. 🙂
So are we! She was amazing!
Hi Daniel. Yes following your intuition is so important. Safety first!
It's always good to take a picture of the car plates and name of the driver, also you can report to Profeco when they raised the prices in The products because they control that also you can report this incident to the secretaria de turismo de la CD. de México.
Thanks for sharing this!
I subscribed cause you guys are so gentle and kind and so careful to give an honest warning when we travel to that place. We actually are traveling right now in different places in Mexico and your advise it been very helpful . Thank you for the video
Thank you so much for your support. We just hope this helps!!
Glad you are safe. Unfortunately, there is always people trying to abuse the system. Be careful.
It's true! Thank you!
Hey Lisa!! Yep, just a few rotten ones in a whole bunch of gems!
Heading to CDMX now from ATL thanks for the great info 👍🏽
You got it Ivan!! Have a great trip!
Good morning you two!🌞So happy you're both okay! Thank you for sharing your experience. Big hugs from Winnipeg, Canada!💖✌
Good morning!! ☀️ Absolutely- we hope it helps some people! Have a great day!
Hi guys ,I live in Mexico and this happens all the time ,even to locals . But I'm glad you guys are having fun in this beautiful country.
Thanks for sharing your home with us. It’s too bad - but hopefully people will know what to look out for now.
@@TheCountryCollectors this is also your home, and if you ever stop by the state of Chihuahua please do let know just to say a quick hi.

Dear Adam and Heidi, I am so sorry that this happen even since I subscribed to your Chanel, I pray for you that this unfortunate situation never happens again take care, sending you blessings hugs and kisses🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰please take care.
Hi Bertha! You’re the sweetest. Thank you for praying for us. Have a great day!
I'm so upset that that happened to you guys. That sucks. I'm glad everyone is okay.
It’s okay! Hey stuff happens! Hope it helps others to avoid it!
Thank you for sharing this Hector.
Thank you so much for the warning, how horrible. Great information.
Thanks for being here. We just hope to help people.
@@TheCountryCollectors You are!!!

Hey Zac! Thanks so much. Hey what are you going to do - just gotta learn from your mistakes! Next time we will know better.
Unfortunately that happens in Mexico. I'm glad you're okay. Thanks for your videos.
Yes, it’s unfortunate. Hope this video helps some people avoid it!
