    So this reminds me of an ancient building technique.
    Castle walls were rarely built out of solid stone but instead would have dirt inside. Both because the material was cheap but also because it help with distributing impact from siege equipment.
    Nice to see a similar need return.

      It does have a nice historical usefulness repurposed for the zombie apocalypse. I dig it!

    I Found it most useful to build an afk-ish base with a wide range around it. Afk-ish so I don’t need to bother trash when I don‘t need to. A wide range to snipe stoners when they apear. For Protection I have two layers of rails around me, traps/spikes for birds. As stoners can blow themselves when in front of walls I will try to set some random ones around the base using plates.

      Sounds like a good setup! I noticed they'll blow themselves up as well. Even if another zombie gets in the way.

    The guy the made to mod said the hordes are messed up right now. If you watch Gun's Nerds and Steel he talks about it in one of his videos. Good base tho! Really enjoyed this!!

    Sorry i originally asked you about stoners... so you too could share in the mind numbing fun of figuring out stoners for horde night! Who would have thought returning to caveman and putting dirt on everything would be best is wild. I am more annoyed now that i originally had a theory my underground base was working better than above ground but i never looked at the xml and gave up after filling in the tunnels they shot open after a bit.
    Thanks a bunch for sticking with the madness of these guys to make this whole thing!! Now... can we talk about their big brother versions that appear around Gamestage 150ish? xD (Don't actually put yourself to that trouble, they have the hp of tanks and just loads of walls seem to be the best option there)

      Haha no problem! I am happy to sacrifice a bit of sanity to figure it all out. I was a bit surprised that was the solution! And here I thought all my fancy tricks would save the day :D
      I haven't encountered the big brother yet. I would imagine even more layers of dirt for him lol.

    Two questions...
    1 - How frustrating was this episode to make?
    2 - Why did you not peek at the xml?
    Great episode either way. Good information but an upsetting result. Basically, you can't have a good looking base that is safe. Could you (and I do mean you because I can't) build a mod that would add a category to the "targeting" of turrets so they would only target stoners? Thanks for doing the hard work (again)! Y'all are the best!

      1) More so than others by an order of magnitude! But in a good way (sometimes). Not knowing what the solution was going to be was refreshing. I thought going into it that I'd handle them the same way as cops.
      2) Because I went into it thinking the AI behavior would be just like cops. So I didn't care about how much damage to blocks, etc., that the stoner would do. Turns out knowing that information was key due to the ai changes.
      I do think the despite the dirt, it came out looking pretty decent! But yeah, it did cover up some of the aesthetics...but all must be sacrificed for functionality.

    I think the theory on how Stoners attacks even at solid blocks is that they're on Aggression Phase and on no cooldown range attack on Blood Moon while on non-Blood Moon is where they're on Investigation Phase.

      But during the non-blood moon time, I do aggro them by making a lot of noise so they will try to attack me. And the difference seems to be during non-horde, they will not see through all blocks. And during horde, they will stone regardless.

    another good one.....Craft until you die. Me and a buddy started playing it and let me tell ya...it is a grind!! Loads of fun!!

    Great video! Thanks for all tests you did, but i have a question, there are some of fire stoner(?) which is throwing fire balls with velocity, i guess the answer for this will be the same, just build dirt defense in the beginning of the tower, because i think he will just throw his stones into first blocks of tower

    Afterlife designed it's zombies to specifically rock your world during the horde, quite literally 😂. I've figured they'll attack you no matter what, this mod is design, so you can't run and you can't hide...

    I have a question: have you tried to determine the vertical distance at which stoners start to "stone"?
    What I have in mind is building a high base with walled in paths for zeds (more like corridors, really). If I'm right and the corridors would start at a distance where stoner would not attack yet. When closing, the wall / sealing would be so close that stones would hurt the stoners, which might solve the problem ;)
    BTW My other idea is underwater combat base. Water negates stones and fireballs damage. Bit unpractical as it needs a several meters deep lake (8-12 meters I think).

      I didn't test that out. I did think about trying to get him to hit himself and possibly other zombies but at that point I was locked into the current design and didn't want to dramatically change it.
      I thought about water too but I wanted to do it on land. You definitely have some great ideas!

      @@pseudoposse Did some tests. Horizontally the stoners start shooting at 30 blocks. Always: bloodmoon or no bloodmoon.
      Vertically though you are safe standing at 28 blocks (2 for your height, 25 distance, 1 for block you are standing on). Funny thing is you can stand lower and if they spawn within 10 meter destance from you they will not shoot, just run to the path. But if they spawn 15 or more blocks from you (horizontally) they will shoot during bloodmoon.
      So the solution seems to be: build a base about 28-30 blocks high (counting distance from your head to the ground) and they should run onto the path. AND if the path stays within 5 blocks horizontally from you they should not shoot untill they reach your level.

      @@MarcusBrutusPL That is some great testing! A base like that would work well for the late game. But that is totally impossible as an early game horde base. At least that is something you could build up towards. Use POIs for your early hordes while you build that tall monstrosity :)

    I don't get how to use mods especially since I sometimes play with someone else and I think they need the same mods? Cool video though and really informative 🤗

      It depends on the mod. Overhauls ALWAYS will require every player to have the same mod as it is a client side mod. Smaller modlets, like simple configuration changes, are server side meaning only the host of the game needs to have the mods. General rule of thumb: if the mod has new assets (like new guns, enemies, etc), then it is client side requiring everyone to have the mod locally installed. Hope that helps!

    The way things look (from gameplay, coments), Horde nights are not worth the effort, they are more like a scape/survive, cuz holding is expensive, futile, frustating and almost without reward, but dev said it will be tweaked, so is wait or run.

      Once stoners start spawning, I can definitely see that argument. They make it hard to get a base up and running and before you do...you'd definitely want to hide out in a POI or something so as not to shred your base in a build state. Alternatively, you could do this same sort of technique with a POI.

    Are you able to design some cool "pillbox" brute force style bases? Might not be efficient but I never do the whole cheesing zombie AI its not really my thing

      I made this using the latest version of the mod at the time of recording. I'll have to do some quick tests to see if anything has changed :)

      These zombies are within the Afterlife mod. If you are playing without mods, you won't encounter these guys.

      They only exist in the Afterlife mod starting around the 2nd or 3rd horde.

    This isn't really feasible in the first 2 -4 weeks of the mod because you're more busy for food and drink, vitality..... have no end.
    You are not able to build something like a stoner safe castle . 🤣 Of course no problem in creative mode

      I built in god mode to make recording faster, but I actually gathered the building materials legit as I needed to level up my game stage for the horde. Been playing for fun off recording myself. I used the poi right by with a ton of decorations to boost my vitality. I dumped points into vitality boosting perks. If you min/max the hell out of it, getting all of that is doable if not by week 3, then definitely by week 4. The final base probably wasn't achievable by week 3 with all the extra modifications I added when testing. But if I had known dirt was the solution from the beginning, I would have gone with my original design using a lot less materials.
