    Slingshot time travel was actually first seen in Naked Time when after cold starting the warp core the ship used the breaking planet to travel exactly one week before they got to the planet. Yes the third kirk and crew episode had time travel.

    • @arbjbornk
      @arbjbornk 4 месяца назад +4

      Naked Time wasn't a slingshot maneuver. The cold matter-antimatter implosion created the first seen-in-Trek time warp. Slingshot generates the time warp by moving through a strong gravity field at high warp speeds.

    using a Delorean that runs its flux capacitor on uranium, only to deplete it on a trip to 1955 so you have to judge a bolt of lightning to the millsecond in order to generate the 1.21 gigawatts if needs to power the flux capacitor and get you back to the future! Marty didn't have access to nuclear wessels, even though everyone in 1955 Hill Valley seems to think he jumped ship in his "life preserver"

    • @lloydevans2900
      @lloydevans2900 4 месяца назад +4

      Except that the "Mark 1" time travelling Delorean in the first installment of the "Back to the Future" trilogy runs the flux capacitor on plutonium, presumably because this has the extremely high energy density required to produce the 1.21 Jiggawatt pulse. The only type of uranium which has similar properties would be highly enriched "weapons grade" uranium, with at least 80% of the fissile isotope U-235.
      Of course in the second installment, the Delorean doesn't need plutonium or any other fissile isotopes any more: The "Mr. Fusion" generator is remarkably versatile with respect to what it can use as fuel - it can apparently use a combination of stale beer and banana skins, plus anything else you can find in a typical rubbish bin.

    Ah, but there is a method from Voyager you forgot. In Season 1's Time and Again, Janeway and Paris accidentally go back in time during an away mission while trying to find out what caused a pre-warp civilization to suddenly go extinct while they were scanning it. Turns out it was their own rescue that was set to do them all in. Realizing it, Janeway aborts the rescue from her end and the loop collapses. Things go about as if the entire adventure never happened, but I'm pretty sure there's still a Janeway and Paris on that planet based on multiverse theory.

How do we stop it? Uh... chase after the timeship and blow it up? Paradox solved?"

    Re: Daniels. I'm actually inclined to think Daniels is a great idea with bad execution. For example, I'd love to see a Daniels-esque background character on Lower Decks who just shows up in the background for most of the season and we see him fixing and/or breaking things as the plot requires. Did someone's goofing off endanger the ship? ~Daniels fixes it before the ship explodes. Would the captain have to leave behind a member of her crew? ~Daniels sabotages the warp engines so they don't leave before they find him. Of course, the joke is that you don't know any of this until the episode where they're featured prominently; for the other episodes they're just a background character. And because they're merely a background character w/o any lines, you don't need to pay anyone to be that character until they get a spotlight episode.

    So, I have a theory as to why 7 couldn't have done what the queen did. Spock wasn't just a mathematical genius. Remember in the movie when one part of what he had to do included a guess? Well, as a dyslexic, I can say we tend to have a knack for big-picture thinking. I'm taking a statistics class right now for my Master's degree. Due to some oddities relating to a new online student system used, my professor has been reading me the quizzes each week. So here's where things get kind of funny. Because I don't always keep the order of things right, I come up with wildly wrong answers to problems. I get the x and y axes mixed up. If you know statistics you know how stupid that is. But I can look at the number sets and guess the answers for correlative data and R values. Like, I know the answer is wrong and even explain how it's wrong by estimating by sigth what a series of numbers are. and this isn't just 5 or ten data sets. I've done it with over 1000. It's because I can see the bigger picture. 7 is exceptional in many ways. Her photographic memory only being one. Her ability to problem solve is paramount, but I think Spock could do the math needed because of the same reason I can eyeball a couple thousand numbers in an experiment and be accurate with the R value by the nearest fraction. Imagine what I could do if I could do that, and keep the axeses straight.

      speaking of Obrien, what about the DS9 ep where Molly as a child disappears into a cave or whatever, and emerges as a young adult - that's more a time dilation thing. She disappears, spends 15 years alone, and reappears 15 years older, and for Keiko and Miles, a few minutes have passed.

    You forgot to mention Tyken's Rift. Running onto a Tyken's Rift is a very bad way to time travel because you get caught in a never ending time loop in which your ship gets destroyed over and over again.

    • @Followmybliss2013
      @Followmybliss2013 4 месяца назад +2

      Tyken’s rift had nothing whatsoever to do with time travel. You are thinking of the episode Cause and Effect… two different phenomena

      Being trapped in a Tyken's Rift causes a certain point in time to repeat ad infinitum. Not travel to either the past or future...🙄

    • @davidanderson4091

      Yeah, my bad. I _was_ thinking of S5E18: Cause and Effect in which the Enterprise, having entered _"The Typhon Expanse"_ , entered _"temporal causality loop"_ created due to a collision with USS Bozeman from the 23rd century (Captain Frasier Crane commanding 😁 ) after it suddenly emerged from _"a highly localized distortion of the space-time continuum"_ . They were destroyed and thrown back in time to experience the same time over and over again. Crashing into another starship is a helluva way to go time-traveling.
