Altitude affects thrust markedly. Even 1.0 km / 3000' makes a difference. One of our leading pilots, a Sqn Ldr (and good friend) would do a limited low level aerobatic display at Bangalore, which is at 3,000' AMSL. Hardly any show, compared to what you see at the Airshow at Yelahanka, also at 3,000' AMSL. One afternoon, he decided to do a display at our Staff College at Coonoor, Wellinfgton, Ooty. Unfortunately, the base height there was 6-7,000' AMSL. He started off OK, but misjudged his ac capability and crashed into a hill along the Golf Course because he could not pull out of a loop.
I am avowedly anti-Jaguar. I won't dwell on it.
As the joke goes, the Jaguar accident rate in the UK after it entered RAF operational use was very high, so much so that the Govt asked for a detailed explanation from the RAF which blamed BAe squarely. The media kept stating that the RAF/BAe combine gave the RAF the worst Flight Safety record in the world, a shameful record, even if macabre.
Three months later, BAe threw a champagne party, inviting all who mattered, including the media. A really grand binge. BaE was asked: What is the occasion? The answer was," Don't you read the papers? We have just sold the Jaguar to the Indian Air Force. Now you won't be able to screw us in the media-the IAF will soon have the worst Flight Safety record in the world.
The biggest flaw of this plane is *_IT IS ONLY CAPABLE OF LOW LEVEL ATTACKS_* in accordance with its design. The Americans pointed out that this feature makes it extremely vulnerable to be shot down when attacking reasonably well defended enemy targets. *This was borne out in the Gulf War* when Iraq shot down a lot of British Jaguars. The British then brought out the Buccaneer plane from storage which the Jaguar was brought in to replace. *Acting on this after the Gulf War, the British and the French withdrew the Jaguars from front line service.*
If i remember correctly Jaguar wasn't the first choice of iaf either , iaf had to purchase jaguar because it was unable to buy some xyz plane due to America's pressure.

Will Tejas MK-2 be very good enough to replace deadly fighters such as Mirage 2000, Mig-29 UPG, and Jaguars? If yes, Tejas MK-2 will be capable like Su-30 MKI? Many know that Tejas MK-2 and Rafale are equal.
Rafale and Sukhoi are a long way away. MWF is mainly to replace Mirage and Jaguar. Even Mig29 will be very difficult to replace.

Jaguars are stable because of shoulder mounted wings... Tejas has those... Song with Delta which provides extra lift and so it can perform well at low speeds and we know with FBW and FGE-414, it has power and control to operate in high altitudes with terrain following radar capability...not to mention it's small size and composite built which makes it already very stealthy. Jaguars are slated to be replaced by the indegenous platforms like AMCA designed to perform SEAD and DEAD missions while heavy bombing can be done by Su-30s as they carry a much larger payload. For now, Jaguars don't need to be operated in high altitudes unless absolutely necessary...we do have the Mirage Rafael and Tejas to do that job very well.

We should start replacing Jaguars with Tejas MK1a as with a weight reduction of 800 -1000 kg giving it an increased range of around 800 km and a max payload capacity of 5000+ kg it will be comparable to the Jaguars capacity of 4000+ kg and 800km
