Yaaaay! I'm vegan and although I love watching all your videos I appreciate your videos like these because you are not vegan, the fact that you love vegan food too is awesome
I don't even need sound to watch your videos, I can tell by your face whether you like it or not, very endearing lol :) You have people fighting in the comments section defending your videos Mark. I guess that means you have "made it" on RUclips! Keep up the great work. Kindest regards from Canada
oh thanks man,, Im serious vegan, but total foodie.. i watch meat oriented stuff and try to figure how to make it vegan... I follow a guy on youtube called Durianrider who has said more than a few times Chang Mai is the best around in the world.. souther cali where im from is real good, but it's all food trying to imitate standard.. Im more into food that is vegan from the ground up... Thai and Vietnamese looks to me like the most indigenous food oriented that way
Hey liverawkstar glad you enjoyed this, and thank you for watching other videos too. Yes, Chiang Mai has a lot of vegetarian restaurants, but I haven't had time yet to check any out. Are you planning to visit Thailand?
Hey Ying & Mark, One of the rare occasions when I've watched one of your videos and not wished I was eating the food in it. Still, your descriptions and facial expressions NEVER fail to make me smile. Nothing against Vegans, but I need my MEAT! Jim.
I think the thai food videos are just awesome. Its helpful to people who are planning trip to bangkok soon.. like myself.. maybe we should learn to appreciate what he is doing for us.. and we don't pay for this.
Food looks great , I'm not a vegetarian, but I would definitely try something like this. I love Thai food such bold, vibrant flavors. PS go to Turkey I guarantee you will love the food.
Yes Mark Wiens I was born in Istanbul , my family moved to the states when I was a child , we vacation there often. The food is amazing we have a very wide cuisine.
Mark, I so enjoy your videos especially the ones from Bangkok, a city I adore. Years ago I often went to Camlong's Asoke for the veggie food when it was in its old location. I 'lost' it when it moved to the current location and now with your video I 'll be going back. Thank you! How about doing a vedio on the food stalls at Chatutcak Market? Buon appetite!
MARK! I wish I lived in Thailand five minutes away from that place I was a raw vegan for 2 Years Dropped fat, blood pressure & cholesterol went away..got off many meds being around raw vegan or just a vegan the healthiest (4me) . I love the right hand corner you put your name! Keep climbing in popularity I wish you many more travels many more !!!sponsors!!!! Hey jimmy roberson, thank you for sharing, and very cool that your health improved eating vegan. Are you still eating raw vegan now? I'm really thankful for your support, and for sharing my videos with your friends and family, really appreciate it. Hope you're doing great.
Mark Wiens I'm on and off vegan and raw vegan vegetarian I noticed the more I eat processed foods the more I don't feel so well but I'll tell you what's really good is take Italian sweet basil fresh and blend with fresh squeezed orange juice just make sure its not Thai basil lol sound strange but believe me Italian fresh basil blended with fresh orange juice is amazing and very addicting
This is good news for vegan and Muslim tourist in Thailand. Thanks for sharing. Shall mark this on my travelling map. By the way, i may suggest you to catch season food bazaar in Malaysia, which is only held during Ramadan (fasting month for all Muslim, and it started coming week for a month). I bet you gonna like it.
Hey Ahmad Nurzid Rosli, great to hear from you, glad you enjoyed this. Thank you for the suggestion, I would love to visit Malaysia to sample some Ramadan special dishes - not sure, but will see if I can make it.
Thanks again Mark, for the awesome lunch review!.Keep them coming every week.I really look forward to your food reviews your the bomb Mark. With respect Mr.Kelly former United States Marine and proud of it!

Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Lol ! Seems like they are missing delicious sauces to accompany most of the meals. The fruit one looked pretty tasty. At least you were honest in your review.
you're a funny one... in the first place, are you a vegan...? =) we have affordable veggies and fruits here in our area and you still wish for more? better cook for yourself....
just left bkk on sun. It was awesome trip. Beside bargain about clothing price, street foods were really killed me. Big BBQ squibs and chicken drumsticks, boat noodle to pad Thai at grant palace. There r too many wonderful stuff. Hope to back here asap
I liked the video already when he said 'vegetarian'. Would like to inspiration behind this start-up at Bangkok. The name Asoke resembles with "Ashok" in India.
college station Thank you. You can get them, but yes they are expensive. But you can get beef at local markets, and it's pretty good, but it's way less common than pork.
Hey thanks for sharing SolOtis, even though I'm not vegetarian I agree with you. If I'm going to eat vegetarian I prefer eating vegetables, not fake meat.
Loved this! I'm not vegetarian but I love veggies because they're usually less tasty than meat so they sometimes have to be seasoned better than meat haha. Also I love fake vegetarian meat. It's a shame where I live they're usually more costly than meat itself. This one huge block of vegan fish is amazing sold at Lions supermarket in the South Bay of California.
This is sooo sad. It looks so good and I'm so far awayyyy :) *Sigh SMH* Next time I go to BKK this will be my first stop after I drop my bags at the hotel. Thanks Mark!!
Quote from above ..... Walk through that street and at the end hang left and you'll see a small pedestrian gate, enter through the gate and you'll be at the restaurant. Can you explain what is " hang left"? Is it "turn left" instead? Thanks
Great video Mark.. thou i could see it on your face that the pleasure is not the same as when eating meat. It was more like a custom video..I hope not many of these are coming :)) Only the best
I've had that fake pork belly in a vegan restaurant here in NYC Chinatown (Buddha Bodai) too. I'd say it tastes rather disappointingly bland, and like rice cake (nian gao, in Chinese) and it probably is partially rice cake. Otherwise, all the other vegan ideas at the place was great. Mark was honest about being not too interesting in this video too 👍
Hi Mark , Do you know what type of mushrooms they are ? I've done a search and it could be they are Shiitake ? Could this be correct ? They look really interesting . Any idea as to how they are cooked in this recipe ? Thanks if you get time to reply .
Hi paul4444 Yes, these were shiitake mushroom stems. They call them in Thai "hed hom" which just means like fragrant mushrooms, but they are shiitake. I'm not sure, they are really quite plain, I think maybe just fried with a bit of oil and salt.
Mark Wiens Thanks for the reply Mark . I've only ever tried tiny bits of dried Shiitake in the Mama branded Kimchi noodles (I think that's what it is). Me thinks I'll get some fresh to try as they sound really good . Thanks again .
ty for a little vegan mark. im with you in the sense that im far from being vegan. but I have family that are hard core, and im going to forward this to them. im sure they will enjoy your vid as much as I do :)

Haha, Ka'imi'loa B., yes definitely at a loss of words sometimes, and sometimes it depends on the day - some days my thoughts are flowing, other days not so well. Thanks!
When ya gonna do a bug cart? Edit... Also, is it just me that cucumber and watermelon taste better in Thailand than it does in North America? Corn and beef tastes worse tho.
This was awesome, Mark. It's great to know that the veggie option is available in BKK. Some of the tofu dishes looked great. Lots of food for $5.55!
Thank you SeoulTee, yes this place is good value.

Not much of a vegetarian either but I find Indian cuisine seems to be some of the best for vegans. Very tasty and well spiced.
Perdomot If I had to become vegetarian, I would most definitely move to India.
Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Lol ! Seems like they are missing delicious sauces to accompany most of the meals. The fruit one looked pretty tasty. At least you were honest in your review.
Thanks superslyfoxx1, extra sauce never hurts anything.
So happy you did! I'm vegetarian so it's good to know I have options
Недавно прлетела из Тайланда ))) Очень скучаю по тайской кухне ((
That place looks like HEAVEN to me. Oh how I wish there was a completely vegan buffet here in the states. And it's all Thai food!!

Is it expensive to get like a Ribeyes or New York Strip in Thailand? Or do they even serve that? Thanks Mark, really do enjoy all your videos.
college station Thank you. You can get them, but yes they are expensive. But you can get beef at local markets, and it's pretty good, but it's way less common than pork.
Awesome vid.... Definitely will share!
Thank you Abdul Jabbar

Hi Mark ,
Do you know what type of mushrooms they are ?
I've done a search and it could be they are Shiitake ?
Could this be correct ?
They look really interesting .
Any idea as to how they are cooked in this recipe ?
Thanks if you get time to reply .

Cardboardy and chewy rubber! LOL
ty for a little vegan mark. im with you in the sense that im far from being vegan. but I have family that are hard core, and im going to forward this to them. im sure they will enjoy your vid as much as I do :)
Hey xcessive2008 thank you very much for sharing it with you family, I really appreciate it.
Hello, Mark. Are all of those vegan food onions free?
Answer me please
do they use onions, garlic, spring onions and any kinds of onion? some vegetarians don't eat all kinds of onions.
I just googled, it's called Jain Vegetarianism? dang...too extreme in my opinion. o_o
ZettaSnowyTora This type of food is called "Jay" food in Thai, and it's more like strict vegan food, so yah they don't use garlic or onions, I think. I wish they did.
i still don´t understand why they´re making fake meat for vegans or vegetarians :D awesome video mark!
Thank you Hans. Yah, I for sure will be staying away from fake meats!
great!!
More of this Mark!!! :)
I'm not a fan of fake meat. I love meat, and when I eat fake meat I always think how delicious the authentic tastes.
Then prefer meatless. Vegetables, mushrooms can be deliciously prepared.
I am a vegetarian and I would never try fake meat...just the though puts me off...but I love your videos though!
After a year I found u again
Thank you jaseem ali
I'm ready for the day when you spit out the "interesting" food and say "yuck" LOL
ME-Tube Your Space! Haha, last month I took a bite of something rotten, spit it out, got it on camera... should I publish it?
Mark Wiens Yes please. I need to get my laugh on and best believe that video will get rave reviews. LOL
Do they serve flowers? Flowers that can be eaten? But those mushroom steak it looks like meat. And I didn't realize that you can eat fruit salad with rice. Weird food.
Thai food may look weird but it's tasty
Hi Amristar, yes, they eat a few different types of flowers in Thai cuisine, but I've eaten them mostly in non-vegetarian dishes.
mark you really need to eat more arabin food its amazing
Maan Alombe I really want to, I love Arabian food. My idea is to eat food in local places (as opposed to eating Middle Eastern food in Bangkok and making a video), so hoping I can do some traveling in the Middle East in the future. Where are you from?
Mark Wiens saudi arabia
Mark, Mark, Mark...I think you were extremely kind in describing vegetarian food. However, you did make it seem intesting when you were ata a loss for words explaining to the viewers what you were about to eat; "little thingies of protien." now that was funny. Also, my "Dear Sir", I do believe the natives are getting restless viewing you eat of the same genre of food, please, an array of plates would make it more pleasing. Keep up your videos my man, No Ka Oi, da'kine!
Haha, Ka'imi'loa B., yes definitely at a loss of words sometimes, and sometimes it depends on the day - some days my thoughts are flowing, other days not so well. Thanks!
Ka'imi'loa B. No kidding bra. Look so ono! Really break da mout!
5:20 lol I think this is the first time I've ever seen you make that kind of face after tasting something.
Haha!
When ya gonna do a bug cart? Edit... Also, is it just me that cucumber and watermelon taste better in Thailand than it does in North America? Corn and beef tastes worse tho.
