I own the Ho'okipa tortoise color sunglasses since 2014!!!! I don't even think I will change design for my next sunglasses that is how much I like them!!! they are so comfortable!!! lightweight!!! made in Japan!! I l love Maui Jim glasses they never disappoint!!!! take care of your Maui Jim glasses and they will take care of your eyes!!
Thanks for mentioning that the Rx version has a slightly different frame construction, I haven’t seen that info anywhere else. When I tried on non-Rx ho’okipas at a retailer I liked that they had that little ridge at the top because light sneaking in past that top rim is my nemesis in all my sunglasses. The non-Rx ho’okipas fave me a perfect light seal. I hope the fully rimless Rx ones still fit flush there. I probably would have thought I got the wrong model when I open my order if I hadn’t watched this video.
I love watching the review videos by sunglass Rob, it seems like we have the same size head and you have helped me choose more than a couple of pairs of Oakleys. So thanks!
I actually bought this pair of sunglasses and in of all places, Maui. I actually had never heard of Maui Jim's brand before. This was about 12 years ago. It was at a sunglasses stand outside the resort next to a beautiful path covered by palm trees and a stream with these giant fish. The sun was shining through the trees reflecting off the stream so you really couldn't tell if there were any fish in it. The guy said "look at the water with these on." He handed me a pair of Ho'okipas. They looked really sharp and fit perfectly on my head which I would consider an extra medium. lol As soon as I looked into the water, I could see all the beautifully colored gigantic fish clear as can be. I know. I know. It's because the lens are polarized but I was sold. Had them for years until they got worn and I think the lens popped out. I attribute that to the fact that I never put them in the case. The older cases were very well crafted but the design was huge, rigid, and clunky with a zipper top. You'd never want to take the case with you. There's no way you could stuff it in your pocket. There was a plastic clip on the zipper you could use to attach it to a belt loop but that's just not my style. Nice to see Maui Jims probably realized this too as they now have a collapsable case. I'm considering taking the plunge and buying another pair unless something else comes along. Very good sunglasses.
What a cool testimonial Paul! Maui Jim wearers are known for sharing stories like this about the amzing clarity achieved through their lenses. Go get that second pair, maybe in a different tint for various lighting conditions! You won't regret it 😎
3 pairs of these over 13 years! Loved them until you, Rob, got me sold forever on the Oakley Radar EV's. No more nose pain and seems like it's a tougher frame than the MJ's I had to send back for fixes a couple times. I did enjoy all my years in the Ho'okipa glasses. I always got the rose tint too. (Probably why I got the Oakley's in deep water polarized which is also rose-ish)
I bought this model yesterday with the blue mirror lense and i had the banyan model 10 years ago with the black lenses it like prizm technologie and they said the blue mirror and green mirror doesn't change because it still infuse on the black lense but bro with the blue tint mirror everything u look look colorful not like the ruby prizm lenses by oakley cuz this one pop the color every deep deep deep like crayola AMOLED this th maui jim lenses look closer natural color with a little bit vivide color and the mirror give the view with 3 color so beautiful. Thx for this reviews and sorry for my english i am french guys from Québec with not perfect english
My wife bought me a pair of MJ sports in 2014 for Father's day. I babied them for 7 years. Went to Hilton Head in June,a wave hit me in the back and I lost them in the water.....felt like I lost a friend. My 9 year old son was so mad at me for wearing them in the water..
Great Question! The Ho'okipa is surprisingly tough and resistant to common wear and tear. They hold up very well and you can feel the quality when you get them in hand or on your face. There's a reason they've been a staple in Maui Jim's catalog for years. Try 'em out! 👇 www.sportrx.com/maui-jim-ho-okipa.html
@@sportrxeyewear Thank you for your word of confidence. I love rimless designs, they are more clean & sexy in my opinion (as are half rims too) but the sturdiness was always suspect. Would be a shame to spend decent money on a pair, only to crack them up later.
Hi Tal! The Ho'okipa's SFW (SportRx Frame Width) is 134mm. Check out the Banyans for the closest comparison in terms of style with an SFW of 138mm, but also take a look at the Lighthouse (136mm) & The Hikina (140mm) 😎 👉www.sportrx.com/maui-jim-makaha.html 👉www.sportrx.com/maui-jim-lighthouse.html 👉www.sportrx.com/maui-jim-hikina.html
Unfortunately, the blue model is a disaster. When the sun shines behind the glass, effects appear on both glasses 😂 in the glass!!! Maui Jim said to me it would be normal with the blue glass and I should install brown or gray glasses afterwards leave, for 60 €. NEVER AGAIN Mauijim :(
Hookipa blue hawai is a terrible lens reflects the skin of the sunlight back in to the inside of the sunglasses which gives a polluted dispersed sunlight glare. Definitely cannot recommend it
Since you were not 100% satisfied, hopefully you tried them out with SportRx for free return shipping, and credit towards new sunglasses or a full refund!

are these lenses fragile? What I mean is that if they are not of good quality? . because many comment that they are fragile and delicate
Hi, this sunglasses would work on a round face? Thanks ahead
Yes, it would! The Ho'okipa works well on most face shapes, assuming the wearer pairs well with the size of the frame.
@@sportrxeyewear Thank you!
Maui Jim stopped giving a bag and hard case with their product ????
Is the Ho'okipa sturdy or does it easily break at the joints on the glass because it is rimless?

Hey Michael! That is the HCL Bronze lens with the gloss black frame color.
