Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Hirakud Dam. Built in 1957, Hirakud stands tall in Odisha's Sambalpur district. This earthen giant, once the world's largest, was a marvel of engineering. It aimed to control floods, generate electricity, and irrigate vast swathes of land. India's independence leader, Jawaharlal Nehru, even called such dams "temples of modern India."
However, Hirakud's story goes beyond grandeur. The land where it sits whispers of a hidden past. Legends speak of Shambhala, a mythical city, and historical records mention diamond deposits that once thrived there. The dam's construction submerged this very land, displacing 22,000 families. Every one pride on Bhakra Nangal Dam but those migrated from this area Still not settled, Govt gave them Barren land in Rajsthan, from Cold place himachal to migrate to thar desert where only thorn are grown. And local (gunda)of Rajsthan( where land are given to these migrate) strart attack on them so They sell that land at Kodiyo ke Bhav. And return back to Himachal How govt treat to us. उड़ीसा से बहने वाली नहीं बल्कि छत्तीसगढ़ से शुरू होकर उड़ीसा तक बहने वाली महानदी हैं। छत्तीसगढ़ के धमतरी जिला के सिहावा पर्वत से निकलने वाली महानदी है।
जिसका पुराना नाम चित्रोत्प्ला नदी है जो श्रृंगि ऋषि के कमण्डल से जन्म हुआ है। यहाँ एक राजा हुआ करता था। उनका नाम चिंत्रांगद था, राज्य का नाम चित्रांगदपुर और उनकी बेटी का नाम चित्रांगदा और उनकी सीमा से बहने वाली नदी चित्रोत्प्ला (महानदी) है।
महाभारत में अर्जुन ने चित्रांगदा से विवाह किया। 🙏🙏🙏
