I remember that period of 1960s when we were dependent upon wheat imported from USA, Mexico, Canada etc under PL480 programme which was in fact a tied aid programme. Also remember shortages of milk and sugar during that period- how one had to round ration shops for limited quantity of sugar and also to stand in queue to get milk from DMS vans with DMS token. Thanks to the green revolution brought about by agricultural scientists like Dr.Swaminathan and Dr.Kurien who brought about operation flood ending our shortages of milk supply. Kudos to these luminaries who brought about these revolutionary changes.

You have shared only import of wheat under PL 480 but they have send weeds mixed with wheat. That weeds can't be eliminated and they still exist in farming lands and around...
