This Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona is a V12 Keepsake

- “My dad bought this car in 1974 when it was a year old, and so was I a year old,” says Matthew Lange. “He bought it to use every day, and in fact, it was his company car.”
It’s quite rare to see a 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” pressed into daily service, racking up nearly 40,000 miles in the process. Lange’s dad passed the car onto him at 30-much earlier than promised, so that his son could enjoy the car.
“It just puts a big smile on my face, getting behind the wheel and driving this car,” he says. “But when I first got the car, it scared me. A lot.” With more power and less grip than he was used to, he had to learn how to operate the 12-cylinder “Daytona.”
Now, he takes it on long drives with his wife to central Europe, racking up thousands of miles in the process-something the car was built to do from the outset. With the same trusted mechanic for around 30 years, Lange says it frees up and starts to drive much better once the miles pile up.
“It’s a car to use, it’s certainly not in concours condition,” Lange says, “I like to keep it that way, I don’t want to spend my money polishing it up nice to win a trophy.”
With the intention of keeping it in the Lange family, this stunning “Daytona” will live on through generations to come, all with the promise of using it on the open road-where the car was meant to be.

please dont ever stop this channel, its absolute perfection.
Carfection? :-P
Take this channel down before it spreads like the PLAGUE!!!!
ashame that i only started getting into cars a almost 2 years ago when i was 13 :(( wished i witnessed this types of things when they came out, the videos btw
It's nice to see one actually being driven. Not all classic cars are bought with a profit in mind.
The sound of that V12 singing put a smile on my face :)
Some of us may have cried a little bit...
Same here buddy...
reminded me why i love v12s
It sounds amazing. Starts your day right.
Music
Thanks for flooring it to redline, letting us hear those 6 twin webers scream through that close ratio transmission, that quad cam v12 sound is simply beautiful.
"Lange’s dad passed the car onto him at 30-much earlier than promised, so that his son could enjoy the car." - Now that's what it's all about, ENJOY it.
American Citizen Sorry but he sounds like a prick. Must suck to know your dad had a car like that and never even let you touch it. Kind of reminds me of the movie Ferris Buellers day off.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood. !!!!! Bruce Meyer--Beverly Hills
Cheers to him for driving it. I hate garage queens.
XLPCX Absolutely. Too beautiful to leave tucked away under a car cover. I still drive my Porsche Speedster a couple of times a week -- otherwise might as well get a poster and sell it.
Trust me...when it comes to such sh*tty "classics" as Ferrari, you'll NEVER want to drive again.
@@michaelmeliambro5117 Why do you keep coming to this video to hate on the car? Keep driving your modern Dacia if classic Ferraris and v12s are not your thing, but leave the true enthusiasts enjoy.
@@AlbertoDsign LOL except I'm not retarded enough to drive some p*ss-poor POS like that!!!
No, you are just an extremely disrespectful, uncultured human being. These cars have incredible history, but you are just history.... I can guarantee that you were an accident.
String backed driving gloves! Now there is a blast from the past! My favourite Ferrari as well. Sounds delicious!
Petrolicious has the absolute greatest stories. I’ve yet to see one that hasn’t made me smile, tear up a little, or inspire. Thanks y’all.
It really gives me joy to see people driving and enjoying this priceless beauty.
Can’t help but smile when that V12 comes on song absolutely fantastic
In 1974, I came out of the FHA building on Wilshile Bl. in L.A> - heard something like an unbelievable sound coming down the hill - two Daytonas, a black one and a red one, mechanics on board !!! I'll never forget that !!!!!
This guy is true entusiast. And know how to shift ;).
Pabcio Yeah I agree; I noticed he really knows how to drive this car.
Pabcio Sarcasm as it's best. Hats off to you sir!
Pabcio It was so smooth right! I was surprised indeed!
Mr. Johnson Voodoochill Pabcio ap2pat It's an old ZF 5-speed 'box, they're notoriously heavy and difficult to shift, and, depending how much use the car gets, can get stiff and baulky in action...
Pabcio it was given to him, enthusiast save for 30 years
Whoever does the camera work on these videos is a genius ...
Maybe a long lost brother of Wes Anderson 😂
Mr Matthew Lange you're absolutely right! Keep this beauty in your family! You deserve it because you really love it!
Cheers
Covid brought Petrolicious to me and kept me sane when working from home, these videos really are fantastic escapism. Best listened to on headphones (earbuds) for the true engine sounds. The Daytona is the only classic car my wife ever passed comment on..."I like the look of that one"....no matter how many times I point out these rolling works of arts shape and sound.
Also I wonder if damp British roads and a British accent evoke the same ethereal feelings as the videos of the countless classics snaking through the LA hills on H2. I think I may have to make my own video.....in Bedfordshire and see if it can be done...inspired by Petrolicious, their videos and surprisingly, the car owners seem..... very nice!
That's one lucky guy,...,who understands his luck!I hope he can enjoy it for a long time.
That's the right way to treat a great car - use it!
Interesting to see the familiar distant view of Swindon in the opening sequence.
Noel
***** That's not Swindon, that's Woking from the Shere Hillclimb road.
Beautiful. My all-time favourite car. Nice to see one being used as it should.
Probably my favorite Ferrari, looks and sounds great.
Absolutely on the money.. pass it on and use it as intended, excellent video bought a smile to my face 👍
What a car! Lange is exactly the person you want to own it. He drives it like it was meant to be driven but with the mechanical sympathy of someone who wants it to be around for the next generation. Imagine being in London in the 70's, Daytona, XKE, DBS V8, Interceptor.
Such a beautiful mechanical sound while it's revving through the gears. Rolling art. Pure n' simple.
The note that engine makes at 4:25 is what every Ferrari owner has been chasing for the last 50 yrs...NUFF SAID
It makes me so happy to watch these videos never stop!
very graceful shifting and beautiful sound
Loving his gloves. Its a look that says "I'm in control of my vehicle".
Amazing CAR and SOUND !!!! This legend can't never die !!! Keep this thing going 4ever !!!
Can't ever.
What a sound from 4.25 to 4.45
gotham61 .....It's the induction. Four Webers on a Chevy or Ford small-block sounds very similar. Gets rid of that lopey "cam" idle too.
***** It's not just the induction - it's twelve cylinders. You'll never get a V8 to make that noise...
*****.....A V-12 Jag with 4 Strombergs sounds NOTHING like that but a Shelby Daytona Coupe with 4 Webers & mufflers does. The sound of an engine with individual throttle plates is distinctive.
***** Sure, but Jag V12s never came with Strombergs as original equipment, did they? Put Webers on a Jag and it won't sound too different - although of course they were SOHC (apart from a few prototype engines). You'll never get eight cylinders to sound like twelve though.
Felix73able No it isn't, it's pretty short-stroke in 5.3 form (indeed it can be stroked to 7.5) and thrives on revs.
These things were designed as long-distance Grand Tourers. Miles is what they need, and it's refreshing to see someone who actually understands that. Too often I've seen people bemoaning the unreliability of the car they've had sat in a garage for four months doing nothing. Yes, the carbs are going to be gummed up with residue, yes, the points are going to be a little corroded, yes, you will need to charge it up and pump up the tyres and give it a really good shakedown. And then, of course, they go and pootle about some fancy city neighbourhood for a while rather than taking it for a good run and it won't restart because it's all sooted up.
I'd like to work for a company who give out top of the line Ferrari GT cars as company cars!
What a beautiful piece of Ferrari history you have. What a lucky person you are! I hope that you will continue to love and enjoy that Italian machine. :)
Truly awesome a genuine Ferrari being used as it should not put in a car museum never to be driven, only wish more people had Your frame of mind
Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Great car, great owner/driver. Thanks!
Nice presentation! Thank you for sharing this beautiful Work of art!
What a beautiful machine! You are so fortunate!
That beautiful smile on your face when you get a 'New Video on Petrolicious' mail. The expectations and how the stories meet and exceed those expectations.
Fantastic!!
Wow what a lovely sound.
We don't own classic cars. We maintain them for the next generation.
You a PR guy for Patek? :)
Jose Paulo King I doubt many guys will get it.
I don't own one at all
Jose Paulo King exactly my thoughts haha
***** definitely a PR guy for Patek.
One of the best - great story on a great car.
One of my favorite ferrari's, great video and as always and thanks for sharing!
You favourite ferrari's what? Banana, penis, dog?
myjet4life Grammar..who cares?!
nice.....please keep making these videos....love this Ferrari and it's story.
An absolute masterpiece.!!
Spectacular sound scenes!!!!!
V12 sings a song... Thank you!
I wonder if you could find the owner of an Alfa Romero TZ2 who would be willing to do a video for you guys, I love this channel and all it stands for.
Thank you for sharing.
Glorious sounding 12!!
Nice little story Petrolicious. Nailed another one.
Marvellous ! It's right enough the car should be driven, The right car for the right owner :)
this thing just stays cool for ever
What a cool dad!
Wonderful car and video!
MMMMM 12 cylinders singing!
Thank you for giving this beautiful car regular exercise.
So good that he drives it. If you have great cars, it's a moral duty to get them out into the public, so people can see and appreciate them!
Ahh those amazing UK country roads ---- one of the best ones to enjoy driving ....
Nice to finally see a Brit on here Petrolicious! It makes a change to see overcast Britain as opposed to the summer west coast, not necessarily a good change but a change none the less!
Great video👍🏻
just beautiful
Rings in my heart ❤️
Fantastic machine.
That car sounds amazing.
Ha, I recognise a few of the locations. The country lane with the big vista and some industrial buildings in the far distance is the one used for the Shere hillclimb, and I also spot the eastbound dual-carriageway section of the A246 between West and East Clandon. The church and cottages are Old Woking.
Beautiful car❤❤😍😍
Owned as it's meant to be owned. Driven as it's meant to be driven. Another great Petrolicious story!
My favorite car hands down
Beautiful car, without any doubt.
"I want to use that car." Yep, that's the right spirit. They were made to be used. As a car. Nice video.
really cool ride sir
Such masterful designers and Ferrari have been doing it for so long.
Beautiful. Seems to me like a classic example of take care of your things and they last
Lovely Car, i think i read about this guy in EVO a while back, nice storey too. I think i recognise The Mulberry Inn car park in that video. The pub belongs to Chris Evans and has long attracted the odd petrolhead! Nice vide, thanks!
You lucky duck! A car for the ages!
This format was so good. I hope that it will return.
what a nice owner of this wonderful car.
That's a fine car. He should be very proud.
Gotta love a Ferrari owner that actually drives his Ferrari. This would make Enzo smile.
So so awesome
Absolutely love and agree the idea of using it and not polishing and not driving!
In 1975 the top rate of income tax in the UK was 83%. For a rich guy at the time, getting a nice company car, instead of a big pay raise, was a way of reducing his tax burden.
Nice video
Your Dads Company car? Wow . 👍👍🇿🇦
Cars were made to drive...good on you Sir
Good on you, cars are to be used, driven enjoyed!!!!
Bravisimo!
Lol this channel has some serious connections to some very well off car owners shesh
They are sponsored by Hagerty, who insures high end vehicles. It's a match made in automotive heaven.
Bob Hannah franklinnnns raining on yo bodaaaaayyy raining on yo boddayyyyy
I have a shit house in a good town and am a working stiff. I have a Pantera and a 1st gen Firebird. It's all about where you put your priorities my friend!
Great engine note....
Good film, beautifully shot.
How nice it was filmed in the UK and not the canyons of Ca.
Your dad's a really cool guy...
Nice to see that rich people actually drive their cars.
Bravo sir......bravo. Keep her on the road.
In the summer of '74 when I read car magazines all the time... I was driving by a car dealership one day and recognized a Maserati Bora parked there...I swung around and started looking at it...there were 3 men standing in the parking lot and I asked who's car it was...they pointed to the young guy in the middle and said they were both his...I was so fascinated by the Bora I hadn't noticed the Ferrari 365 GTB 4 right beside it...He said he'd give me a ride but he had somewhere to go...after he left I started talking to one of the other guys and mentioned a Detomasa Pantera and he said the guy had one of those too. He took me in the garage to see the pantera, beside a corvette, beside a camero and they were all his... This guy was in college... Needless to say his father was very rich...
Damn! The images are on the contrary, the steering wheel is in the right!😉
365 is my best favorites age of ferrari.
Congratulations for keeping a drivers car a drivers car, and not a garage queen. Now; when can I drive it? ;o)
He used to drive a 944, nice. I hope he kept the 944 as a daily driver and this as his secondary daily driver. Now I want to see a video about his 944.
wish this video was longer. I realize its already 6 minutes, but it seemed really short
Reminds me of miami vice, though the one in that show was a kitcar.
bestest early 70s ferrari gt...hands down
Lovely car - keep it !
(Matthew put power-steering from a 400 onto his Daytona to make it more liveable: I'm trying for a similar result, but from the opposite direction - putting a replica Daytona body onto my 400 to make it more desirable....)
Love a good love story...
