Ive followed Guthrie for years thru Guitar mags and general internetz stuff, and i gotta say this is some of his best playing ive seen. Everything he does is interesting, and his attention to dynamics, melodic phrasing, space, articulation, groove etc is impeccable. He truly is in complete control of his guitar, and what a joy to watch someone with that command over their instrument.....oo err :D
I love how the phrase at 4:06 starts with a nod toward Steve Morse until Guthrie hits the turbos takes it up to the next level. Such awe inspiring amazing control and creativity at warp speeds.
@FarazR2 There is a clip of Guthrie playing this tune on a tv show for RTHK called The Works. When he got to said part I realized he had NO effects! Basically he's harmonizing with the backing track! So I think you're right about the harmonizer. And the brand harmonizer is Govan! ;)
First off I'd just like to say Guthrie has become noticably more potent among my main musical influences. Frankly, he can just throw any progression in a headlock and pour a beer on it's head; he just humiliates them! I mean how beautiful was that little lick from: 3:10 - 3:17? And watch the guys face who looks like the dude who pours out the black man's grape soda in herald and kumar: guantanamo bay @ 4:09 as he bends that note ROFL! He's like gah...that was badass *lip snarl*
@FarazR2 Could be, but I thought he was going though TC Electronics pedals. I wasn't sure if they had a harmonizer. Maybe it's he chorus on a really weird setting?
Guthrie has got to be one of, if not, the most innovative guitarist/musician on the scene right now. I hope he doesn't end up like another Dannty Gatton...
@torjortorjor Indeed, he was out of tune when he was at a clinic/show in Norway as well. Doesnt really matter though, he beat the living shit out of my ears..
ahahahah I can't believe no one has spotted this yet, but around 47 sec near the bald guys head some guy waves his hand at someone and then points at guthrie like "Dude!, fuckin Guthrie Govan over here!!"
I makes me wonder why any of us lesser mortals continue to practice in our bedrooms. Then again i had that reaction when i had Andy Timmons for the first time too
Maybe his frets are phat to prevent strings from contact with the fretboard, which gives the look of the strings being high since they are relatively far from the board when they are perhaps still close to the frets, essentially a scalloped vibe
it's a bit upsetting to see someone standing behind the shot with such disinterest. If you can't groove to this dude you may want to reconsider your existence.
0:14 Corona Chorus!!!

Probably the best live version i've heard!
best part (in my opinion) 3:45
Ehsaan Noorani at 3:16 in the audience. Love from India 🇮🇳
Wow
I'm 67 & very fast but He's not human! The best improvisational player I've ever seen & seems to be a great Human Being also! Cheers!
Not only is Guthrie probably the best, but the thing that makes me laugh is how he's constantly proving it lol
What a superb hooman ❤
best version of waves I have seen... its scary to think Guthrie is still improving
I love how the phrase at 4:06 starts with a nod toward Steve Morse until Guthrie hits the turbos takes it up to the next level.

Guthrie just gets me all in my feelings...
This has got to be the best version of "Waves" I've ever heard.
Wonderful
Best version ever seen
This is the best version so far, the part after the main intro 0:39 gave me an unexpected braingasm
I was there for this... sound police shut him down because everyone walking past would stop a block the hallway!
Tasteful shred. I love it!
Gotta love this man.
4.04 - 4.18. Mind blown

I was just watching him playing this song from last year earlier! This is awesome!
....Awesome as usual.

My mind will never be able to comprehend how good guthrie really is.. =[

Ele tira onda!
No matter how fast he plays it's always interesting, which is what differs him from most.
Que bonito.
0:49 3:16 3:04 4:13 4:16
@geoboy333 Totally right, at the beginning you can notice it very clearly.
he does bring it back into tune with the bar by bouncing it a few times ala jimi
INSANE
@YegorIvanov He says 2011 is "the year".
mega
@skleung AHAHAHAH it is, guy must love Guthrie lol

Thank you TC for this! Can you post a link in the bar for the TonePrint of Guthrie, pls!
Best wishes! :)
Yes! We want a NEW ALBUM! Better 2 new albums!
3:50 to 4:40 is insane for a live improvised solo. :D

@xlsublx You said it mate.
does Alberto's mexican food sponsor guthrie or NAMM or sumthing?
2:52 that sounded like jason becker to me
sounds like Greg Howe - impressive stuff
@torjortorjor Indeed, he was out of tune when he was at a clinic/show in Norway as well. Doesnt really matter though, he beat the living shit out of my ears..
yeh right lol

What effect is he using towards the end that gives it the effect of two or more guitars in harmony playing?
@PakalniskisA Unfortunately that's true...
Put this in 2x speed and see 😂😂
That polytune doesnt seem to tune very well ;) haha
He’s usually so in tune, I felt something was a little off haha
sounds like this was recorded direct?
Is this a song of his or an improvisation?
is it me or is his high E string flat by miles?
i dunno why but he seems like reb beach to me
mannn his string height is pretty high o_O
Good notice, I guess he wants all the tone, plays slide sometimes, but yeah, you’d think he’d have it lower
Maybe his frets are phat to prevent strings from contact with the fretboard, which gives the look of the strings being high since they are relatively far from the board when they are perhaps still close to the frets, essentially a scalloped vibe
Who are some other noteworthy HSH config lovers
thats it i quit guitar, study, and my life

Da fuk is wrong with his sound here ? :( it sounds like some 1x1 inch solid state amp or something...
WTF!?Who did this thumb down?Must have brain damage or something...
could it be... isn't he slightly out of tune here....?
sounds too plastic :/
