Thank you for posting this video. I copied your directions for a steuerpimpel replacement and it works very well.

I've had a 1219 with the second problem (arm wouldn't move to the record in auto mode because of a slipping steuerpimple) for years and this video helped me fix it. Thanks so much!

Personally, I'd just buy the proper parts. First, the tubing you use must have enough elasticity to it to go over the retaining washer and return to it's former form. Not all tubing will will do that. More importantly, the idea is to get the ball bearings to slip out the holes (under the captivity of the tubing) enough to allow the shaft's detents to slide when moving the lever. Rigid tubing may not have enough flex to allow that smoothly. But as expensive as it may be, a "tried and true" fix with a known type material could possibly save some headaches. The ones I've replaced resemble a stiffer, but flexible rubber material, something akin to fuel line hose. If you buy the proper Steurpimpel, you'll be sure to have the correct material and lifting height when seated. I only say these things because "cheaping out" on a fine Dual table is just not an option for me to consider.

Unfortunately the single/multi lever has already been forced, and the "ears" inside the tonearm mount are broken on this table. Do NOT force that lever, or even if not frozen flick it back & forth as shown. The ears are very fragile, once broken are basically impossible to fix. There is nothing to hold the arm in the lower, single position now, and the arm will bind.

Dual (pronounced do-AL) is a brand name of audio and video electronics. "In 1927, a German gramophone power supply manufacturer called Gebrüder Steidinger adopted the name Dual in reference to the dual-mode power supplies it pioneered.

Regarding the turntable washer ball bearings...do you recommend removing them and lubricating them before putting the rubber tubing on? What lube that will work with rubber?

There is a big spring like piece tah is like a big clip under the tonearm plate between the multiplayer shaft. its like a safety pin. it looks like a hasp. What if its missing? I thing it rests the other shaft and creates a tension to be stable... Whats that big wire spring called sir?

Regarding the washer or 0 ring, would love to see how exactly to disassemble to get to where the o ring can be slide into place. Is there a pin or screw to remove on the shaft? Also I tried applying some rubber renew to the hardened o ring and that seemed to help.

Really have to remove the old ring & replace it. May need to lube the shaft as well. Even if it doesn't need it. If you have to ask about disassembling, indicates to me that maybe you don't trust your skills. It's really not for beginners. But if you study the service manual or the actual turntable you can actually see what needs to be removed and cautiously remove parts as needed to get to the shaft. But the way I feel about these1219/1229 turntables lately, I would just settle on using it as a manual table or just go with other Duals like the 1214. The 1219,1229 flawed tonearm designs are just a mess to maintain. I'd rather spend my time enjoying the music.... Have fun!

@@audio4335 I'm definitely a beginner working on these, but having fun doing it. I never use them as anything but a single play so as long as it is in place in the single rather than mulitiple setting I suppose there should be no need to replace. But I was having an issue with skipping on the last track and sticking on the lead out on a 1219. I kept trouble shooting to no avail when someone suggested it could be the o ring. I check and it seemed okay but did apply the rubber renew, lubed all the lever pivot points and re-greased the cam and something that I did that time corrected the problem? I agree studying the service manual and examining the TT are most important but I'm somewhat of a visual and auditory learner and a video demonstration as someone talks through it always helps me with confidence in what I'm doing and a clearer understanding. I enjoy your videos appreciate your documentation of this. Take care friend.
