Billy Flynn played expertly by Tim Curry and Tobias Henkel played by James Van Der Beek.
Scratch & The Replicator scared me because evil genius is not just hyperbole in their case but Cat Adams was the master of the bad guy plan. She was playing chess while most villains on the list and the show couldn’t spell checkers!
@@suzannerust8658 yes! Billy Flynn scared the hell out of me! So damn creepy
C. Thomas Howell was fantastic.
Adam Rain gave me nightmares as a kid, I mean, now since I’m much older, he sounds like a psychopath I actually want to see in a show, he’s like Sideshow Bob except he has no comedy or big feet
i actually love that they all had their own nemesis or even more in hotch's and reid's case (reid never could caught a breath), but aubrey plaza delievered SO good as cat adams, she deserves to be on the acutal list. also honorable mentions; tommy yates & the last villain we saw, mr. everett lynch. that family was a whole mess.
They should redo the list for only villains of more than one episode. The kidnappers are beyond creepy and the puppeteer is among the most brutal but the Benjamin Cyrus cult, Ian Doyle, Tommy Yates, Everett Lynch (plus mother & daughter) and Cat Adams each gave our heroes a challenge on more than one occasion and were hard to defeat for good which is the definition of a true villain and all far greater BAU bad guys than a few on the official list.
Because that’s her actual personality 😭 she said she likes to make people scared of her by being so vague and creepy and whatnot.
I never got to see that episode 😕. Which one was it??
@@georgevarughese4886 to which villain are you referring?
There is a problem however. Despite her high intelligence, Cat Adams is sometimes too sure of herself due to her ego and manipulative ways. And so, while there is situation while she is playing her fucking sick games and toying with little Spencie's balls , sorry I mean nerves , and with the rest of the team, she is so sure that she have the control of the situation and don't see that the protagonist are playing with her. IF I have to compare her with other vilains from media culture, she is arrogant as Negan from the Walking Dead ( comics and tv show) is.
James Van Der Beek absolutely killed the role as Tobias Hankel. It's not even just the voice, you can see the complete change in body language and demeanor in him whenever he switches personalities. It's incredibly compelling.
@@tatianagois7291 and he managed to make you feel differently about the different personalities! I felt so bad for Tobias, but I hated the father. And Raphael is fucking terrifying. Seriously, give this man an Oscar.
Agreed! And I usually like Matthew, a lot, but in this episode it seems forced overacting. 😅
I so agree with you. He became the characters.
Yepp. Wow! Just rewatching this series and damn is he good in that role!!
Yeah that episode will alway stick with me not only because the acting was phenomenal but also really love Spencer so it was shocking to watch
Cat Adams should have been on the main list. She's cunning and ruthless and a GREAT foil for Reid.
Same for Doyle. He was the main antagonist of season six. And he continued to haunt Prentiss after his death in season seven.
@caitlyncarvalho7637 He was the one who had synesthesia, right?
I love the fact that some of the best, most sadistic killers in the series were portrayed by stars who aren't associated with that genre. James Van Der Beek, Jamie Kennedy, Mark Hamill, Jason Alexander & Aubrey Plaza.
jamie kennedy was in scream xD
You don't know about Mark's long and memorable time as the voice of The Joker?
@@ajtaylor7181 he was in Scream yes, but his character was very much not evil, which is what he was in this.
@@silverloony1170 Apparently not. He's made a killing in doing villain voices in animation. Captain Stickybeard is one of my favorites lmao
Don’t forget Tim curry and C Thomas Howell.
I love how a good chunk of the episodes mentioned are the ones Matthew Gray Gubler directed 😂
Which ones on the list did he direct again?
@@user-du2iu8zz7k Mosey Lane (10), the Lesson (9), Mr. Scratch (3), and Lauren (honorable mention).
@@cottagecorecora I’ve watched the lesson and Mr.Scratch. i haven’t watched Mosley lane or Lauren though.
Finally "recognition" in these lists for Frank. I found him more terrifying than The Reaper.
I never found The Reaper all that scary. They've dealt with far more one-off villains of the week.
His body count was insane…
@@benlevan5645 the reaper was scary because he was so smart
The Reaper was horrible because he is unpredictable unsub. He could control himself, lay low for years.
Reminds me Zodiac.
The reaper was the worst one out of every serial killer he was by far the worst
As much as I love Mark Hamill, I really found the whole Replicator arc to be weaker than a lot of others not even mentioned, and most of the memorable nature of it came from when they didn't know who it was. I reckon Cat Adams would have been much better to include on the actual list, especially given her teaming up with Lindsey to frame Reid and the absolute mind games she plays with him and the rest of the team.
Funny, because as everyone now , Hammil play also a other more crazy and chaotic criminal mind with a degre of narcisim . I could tell you who I am talking about but I think you allready now.
Some appreciation for Adam/Amanda please. It was absolutely insane how Jackson was able to play that character. So crazy.
Very good episode !!!👍🌷
Criminal Minds and Supernatural have some of the best and scary villains to ever show up on TV. The actors that played these characters earn a gold medal for their performances.
Here's my Top 10
1. The Reaper
2. Cat Adams
3. Tobias Hankel
4. Mr. Scratch
5. Nathan Harris
6. Floyd Feylinn Ferell
7. The Replicator
8. Ian Doyle
9. The Fisher King
10. Everett Lynch
Honorable mention: Diane Turner, Billy Flynn, Jason Clark Battle
Frank has to be on here, probably top 3. Gideon was the best profiler ever and figured out them all and understood them except Frank
@@dmar28 which one was that
I’m not sure why they didn’t mention Everett Lynch he targeted Rossi
ian doyle imo is number 1, gave us the best storyline with the saddest episode aswell
@@laspa0 Haley's death was the saddest episode. I do agree Doyle should be on the list, but not #1. I'd say 1. Foyet 2. Doyle 3. Billy Flynn
Cat Adams should be on the list, not just as an honorable mention.
I agree
Mr. Scarth literally the entire episode down to him scared me to the core I still get nightmares along with The reaper and Adam rains turing his victims to puppets I flinch when he made the holes into their bodies
Frank was THE scariest, most horrific villain. He not only killed hundreds and tortured them by having the victims watch their own dissection in a mirror while paralyzed but while they were aware and felt everything. The marionette fellow wasn't a bad person, just a brain injury victim, and although what he did was awful and the episode is horrific, he himself wasn't a bad person. Mason Turner is tied with Frank for worst villain in my opinion. Nathan Harris also had redeemable qualities, he actually attempted suicide so he wouldn't hurt anyone and wanted help to stop his feelings, he didn't kill anyone either.
Frank is the goat he retired giddion the only profiler that can catch frank is frank landy from dexter if u know what I mean lol
Actually there was a major plot goof in the ‘Frank stories’ they said he used Ketamine to incapacitate, actually ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic. A person drugged with that would be able to watch their own dissection without reacting to pain nor caring about what was being done to them.
Frank Breitkopf was my favorite villain by far!! His intelligence was next level!!
Billy Flynn is the most terrifying, for me. Then again, any Tim Curry character is the most terrifying.
What about the Fisher King? He was one twisted SOB!
This was the comment I was looking for!!!
My favourite stand alone episodes are the Fisher King ones!
One of my fave stories!
Don't forget Diane Turner played by Michelle Trachtenberg in season 8 episode 12 Zugzwang where she kidnaps Reid's girlfriend. Another one is Johnny McHale in season 3 episode True Night. He was the one few that they felt bad for. He was a normal guy who was a great artist then something awful happens to him and then he goes a bit crazy. Frankie Muniz was AMAZING in that episode. Also in a way Lindsey after her season 3 as a victim Reid sees that she could turn into her father.
I thought Buford was pretty memorable especially bc of his backstory with Derek and how even when doesn’t make an appearance sometimes you’ll see the trauma he caused Derek come up crazy how he didn’t get an honorable mention but that one high schooler did
The reaper was a combo of Zodiac & son of Sam. He was a nightmare. Soo smart & patient like BTK. Stabbed himself & got caught. Knew the whole schematics of every prison in Boston. Escaped with ease. He’s the villian of all villians on Criminal Minds. Omnivore & 100 are the two greatest episodes in the shows history.
There are no guys like me.. - The Reaper
I’m the most cold hearted son of a bitch you will ever meet. - Ted Bundy
Carl Buford should have been at least in the honorable mentions. Especially when he said to Morgan "There's a lot more of me out there than in here. (prison)"
Jackson Rathbone DESTROYED me in his episode. His stare is horrifying.
He's underrated af. He'd make a good subtle villain
that was such a good episode omg
Omigosh finally some appreciation. His acting was out of this world, and he’s severely underrated. Too bad he doesn’t act as much anymore. At least he has adorable kids that we get updates on!
And yeah, I just watched a clip of that episode and that stare is just… terrifying, for lack of better word. Reminds me of a very crazy Jasper Hale. He’s good with creepy stares😂😂
Cat Adams deserves to actually be on the list
I think Ian should’ve been on the actual list, not just an honorable mention. He was definitely Prentiss’ biggest foe. I believe he did eventually turn over a new leaf though so maybe that’s why he’s only an honorable mention.
Exactly. He was *Prentiss’* foe, not the team’s.
@@LucienSabre But they include Tobias who really only targeted Spencer and not the entire team.
@@cassandraspoelhof3752 Tobias was an unsub the team investigated on, he didn’t target Spencer specifically from the start. Ian wasn’t, he only targeted Prentiss and the team was “collateral” (in every sense).
@@LucienSabre Oh okay. Sorry for my confusion. I haven’t watched the show for a a few years so I guess I’ve forgotten some key details about it.
@@cassandraspoelhof3752 I only remember because I just (massively) binge-rewatched the show around last Christmas - I had to rewatch it because I was on a Criminal Minds withdrawal. LOL
The woman from the "I love you Tommy Brown" episode was crazyyy. Shit still sits in my mind. Such a good actor at playing crazy
Nobody's talking about the moment Penelope got shot enough. All I can think is you have to be the sickest bastard in the universe to even think about harming her.
I'm gonna come and say it. George Foyet is the most well written serial killer on Criminal Minds ever, If not in all of Crime Drama history because his entire story arc feels like a complete and consistent journey from beginning to end.
My favorite ones are George Foyet, Adam/Amanda and Tobias Hankel. None of them scared me but George Foyet was just such an awesome villain and the Tobias and Adam/Amanda were sad but good surprises and they both had interesting twists
Finally some appreciation for Adam!!! Jackson killed that role, it wasn’t scary, but the plot twist and the acting was insane!!!
@booworm8627 I love that episode. It helps that I really like that actor but even if I didn’t Jackson Rathbone did a fantastic job portraying BOTH characters
I was balling my eyes out when the Reaper was gonna kill Hotch's wife :((
How about when he made Hotch listen to his wife get shot.
@@amandasmith2399 Yess! That was very sad as well - especially seeing Hotch cry!
@@khushishah9571 There was so much justifiable rage in those punches that Hotch gave him...Hotch knew that if he stopped...Foyet would have murdered his son and then him.
@@amandasmith2399 Yeah, my respect for Hotch 📈
@@khushishah9571 Once Foyet started threatening Jack's life....all bets were off.
I think Billy Flynn AKA "The Prince Of Darkness" is the DARKEST out of ALL the Villans in *Criminal Minds*
I couldn't actually watch his episodes, they just terrified me too much.
@@jbwhangarei4549 isn’t it all worth it by the end tho? Just for the satisfaction and ending song?
Remind me which episode he was in?
@@neeltjeschmidt Our Darkest Hour and The Longest Night
If you think about it Billy Flynn, Frank Breitkopf, Tommy Yates, and many others had horrific childhoods!! Billy literally being abused and pimped out by his own mother!
I believe Cat Adams should be in the actual list not just one of the honorable mentions. Aubrey Plaza was so good in that role!
Love the Criminal Minds content lately!
How is Ian Doyle only an honorable mention? I feel like he should be top 5.
100%
Agree 100%. Doyle affected the team more than any villain with the possible exception of The Reaper
I feel like Frank doesn't get enough attention in the Criminal Minds Community. He is the only unsub that Gideon truly could never understand why he did what he did and Gideon figured out them all except Frank!!
Frank is the greatest serial killer in criminal minds so much so the only profiler that can catch him is frank landy from dexter if u know what I mean cause the bau team never could touch frank
Certainly agree!! Frank Breitkopf was definitely the greatest unsub!!
You guys should do Law and Order: SVU villains. Great ones for that!
Make a part 2 of the top saddest episodes and maybe make it bigger than a top 10 so you can cover more ground. 3 episodes that I’m surprised didn’t make the first list are “Derek”, “Broken”, and “The Big Wheel”. That last one I mentioned should be high up on the list, maybe even #1. Damn that episode was tragic especially that ending.💔
I would like more criminal minds eps on this channel
I think The Big Wheel is actually sadder than the ep where Hotch's wife gets murdered
Should be mentioned that floyd ferrell was portrayed by jamie kennedy mostly of scream fame. His character would have LOVED that he was on criminal minds
Me: "Wow this episode was especially fucked up!"
Credits: Directed by Matthew Gray Gubler
Me: Whoop there it is!
I have a feeling that the creators of the mr scratch episode drew some visual inspiration from the movie "The babadook". Great list, though there should be an underrated villains list too.
Dont forget the Tall Man. It base of Slender Man and infact, there actually is a movie call Tall Man
@@syabilaazri7834 Cool. I knew there was a connection there too, thanks.
How about top 10 criminal minds unsubs that were never caught like in "Awake", "blood relations", or something like that?
We’re gonna need a part 2 to this because where’s people who had a connection to other BAU members like Carl Hastings and Askari??
Two things about your guys picks:
The Roycewoods really scare me because they burn children.
The second thing is that my favorite unsubs of all time are the Reaper, the Replicator, the Prince of Darkness and Ian Doyle.
And Frank Breitkoph
*OBSESSED* with this show!!
Bodhi Elfman was scary as "Scratch".
Not his first time working with Thomas Gibson. He was on a couple episodes of Dharma and Greg, also starring his wife Jenna Elfman.
Foyet is definitely my number one, the first one the comes to my head, I loved his episodes
It's about time Tim Curry got some recognition. His episodes are my favorite
George Foyet is by far my favorite villain in any tv show ever made. C. Thomas Howell was the perfect person to portray him.
Frank was the most memorable for me, but I totally get having Foyette as #1. Overall a good list but Cat Adam's should have been more than just an honorable mention
Jeremy Sayer has always been my favorite. For a kid to be that good at killing so early on... If he ever gets out, he'll be a real problem.
the fact that the fisher king wasnt included... I'm shocked. He hacked into the BAU and played tricks and did his research very well, including holding someone captive for years and blows himself up to hide any evidence. I really think Doil should of been 2nd and 4th should of been fisher king or at least fisher kind being a honorable mention
Of course #1 is Foyet
I’m glad they included frank and Tobias. Both killers made a lasting impression on two BAU members with one leaving and the other traumatized for life. Shows that the Reaper and Mr. Scratch weren’t the only ones to truly hurt the BAU. I personally like to include the face cards and corrupt deputies as well. (I’m glad the chameleon wasn’t on here, I HATE him HATE. Unlike the others who I hate but find interesting villains).
the reacher will always be the best criminal minds villian
You mean the Reaper…and yeah, I 1000% agree.
100% The Reaper
I loved Megan Kane She was one of the few female Serie Killers and her role was played so good
JJ's radio plea to the Prince of Darkness is one of my favorite performances of all time. Kidnap victim Kelly's manipulation of Lucas in "To Hell and Back" is also riveting. Both episodes stick with you and if either one plays on TV, I have to watch it.
Billy Flynn was my all time favorite. Gave me nightmares for years
If brad doriff or Tim Curry is in it you just know its going to be a good episode...and messed up!!
right 😂😂😅
I agree, George Foyet is definitely one of the most memorable
I thought Luke Perry’s character (Cyrus) was pretty good 🤷♀️
Jason Clark Battle might have shot Garcia, the puppeteer might be so horrific it’s unwatchable, Tobias hooked Reid on drugs and Frank killed a lot but none should be on the list whilst Cat Adams is stuck in honorable mentions. Her dynamic with Reid is second only to Hotch & The Reaper, her body count is among the highest, her psychopathy is as a hitman, serial killer, and she has is not just a muilt episodic character but a multi season character. Make a new list! Give her a spot reflective of her epic villainess status! The mere mention of her name has the BAU shaking in their boots! Show some respect!
Cat Adams had help from other people, Frank Breitkopf not only killed nearly 200 people by himself but also was the only unsub to actually stand off successfully with Gideon! (And Gideon was smarter than Reid!)
#1- Saw that one coming. Anyone who even watched the show slightly knows the hell this man inflicted on the BAU. Zugzwang.
Oops. I got him mixed up with “The Replicator”. Sorry about the mix up. It’s been a while since I watched the show. I don’t think I watched past season 12.
Very few moments in tv have ever made me cry…. Hitch, Haley, Jack, and George.. every time
Ian Doyle, Cat Adams, and the Chameleon should have been on the list. They all had high body counts and they tormented Emily, Reid, and Rossi (respectively) over multiple episodes.
Top 10 Criminal Minds villains with tragic backstories
Number 1 is tobias hankell.
Cat adams not making the actual list is CRIMINAL
Minds?
sorry I had too 😂 I couldn't resist
#10 has one of THEEE saddest endings.. the dad broke me when he said "he was alive yesterday" omggg-- even after all this time, I fall to pieces!!!
Nathan Harris wasn't a villain, he was literally doing everything he could think of to stop from becoming one
His story was heartbreaking!! Literally attempting suicide!! 😢
Cat Adams should be number 2.
Cat Adams should be more than an honorable mention.
Villains are always one of THE Best of the Best Things Happening Around the Heroes/Protagonists from the Entire Timeline Years!
Why is Nathan Harris an Honorable mention for Villain???
Yeah, he's not a villain
The Reaper despite not being the scariest was definitely the best villain. Harms himself for fun, extremely smart and manipulative, and has no fear. He didn't have some defect he just killed and liked it.
These are some good ones, but I feel like Luke Dolan should have been on this list. He wasn’t a psychopath, cannibal or sadist, but he was still extremely skilled and deadly. Of the three villains to get inside the BAU, he is the only one that used pure skill to breach the building and make his way to the BAU bullpen. The Replicator and Jason Clark Battle both had jobs that allowed them to use their ID’s to just get in the building.
Mr. scratch always freaked me out - until he had a face ( despite the fact that he could strike anywhere anytime) He was better and scarier when he was “invisible” and had that terrifying noise of a voice!
Frank Breitkopf, Tommy Yates, George Foyet, Floyd Feylinn Ferell, Karl Arnold, Connor O'Brien, and Jeremy Sayer we're certainly my favorites!
Question, what made Cat Adams an HONORABLE MENTION rather than on the list (Top 5 IMO)
Karl Arnold should be on this list.
Totally agree!! He was insanely intelllligent and went undetected killing entire families for years!!
Actually a really good list.
Kudos to Jamie Kennedy as cannibalistic Ferell. Never could have imagined him as such a dark character. Amazing job!
Mr Scratch is #1 on my list. Cat Adams is a close 2nd. F
Adam was terrifying tbh
Just his voice freaked me tf out
1. Foyet
2. Mr Scratch
3. Frank
4. Doyle
5. The Replicator
6. Cat Adams
7. The Fisher King
8. Billy Flynn
Would love a list of the most tragic unsubs. Like S4's Norman Hil, S3's Johnny McHale and Owen Savage, S2's Kenneth Roberts and Tobias Hankel, or S1's Ted Bryar and Sarah Jean. Just a list of unsubs that either had no actual control over their actions or were driven to kill because of a horrendously tragic life
Vincent Rollings (Alex O'Laughlin). His story with the blind boy...
BTW Sarah Jean never killed enyone, she didn't even know what her husband did. But her story is one of the most tragic, I like this episode most of all. It is about true love when you are gaving your life not just for saving your child life but just for his happiness and calmness.
The reason why The Reaper was famous and memorable was because he was like Michael Myers and Jason minus the superhuman and zombie part. Basically he is like an 80's slasher.
George Foyet was most ruthless
Glad Hotch took him down
My top 10
10 - Cat Adams
9 - Frank
8 - Adam / Amanda
7 - Diane Turner
6 - Mr Scratch
5 - The Replicator
4 - Tobias Henkel
3 - Floyd Ferrell
2 - Mason & Lucas Turner
1 - The Reaper
im sorry but how is Ian Doyle not in the actual top 10?
Yeah not sure how much I’d agree with this list, Doyle, Adams, Lynch probs would’ve made my list; especially because although the build up was great, I feel like characters like the Replicator were overrated (sorry Mark).
There are some smaller ones that I also feel would be good shouts for honourable mentions. The Caller, Maeve’s stalker and the Tall-Man are all fantastic examples
Unfortunately, I feel like there is this common misconception that the earlier major unsubs were better than the later ones…. Just because the show evolved and adapted to changes in cast doesn’t mean that it dipped in the quality of unsubs
EDIT: also how tf did Nathan Harris make it to Honorable Mentions? He wasn’t even a villain!!! I though the character was excellent, but he shouldn’t even come close to meeting the criteria to be on this list
My theory as to why the roycewood’s went crazy is that they lost a child and now their kidnapping kids within the same age and when they get too old, they think they’re growing up too fast so they get rid of it. Also i love Billy Flynn he’s scary, tragic, entertaining, and is the perfect villain, Peter Lewis is great too he’s like scarecrow from batman, kind of wish he wore a mask though, and the reaper is amazing, C Thomas Howell really knows how to play a great villain.
Still can't get the George Foyet episodes out of my head. I watch the episodes one and I could never bring myself to watch them again....
Love Cat Adams
Not one to criticize but Ian Doyle gets a memorable mention?? One of the best villains ever !!

Their "flirty" & fun sarcastic comments and cute back-and-forth were always fun to watch, in my opinion.💗😍
Top ten reasons to kick the writers
My top 9 memorable criminal minds villains are Anita & Roger Roycewood, Adam Rain,Jason Clark Battle,Tobias Hankel Aka Charles and Raphael,Billy Flynn AKA the prince of darkness,John Curtis AKA The Replicator,Peter Lewis AKA Mr.Scratch,Frank Breitkopf and George Foyet AKA The Reaper.
Honorable mentions Ian Doyle,Mason & Lucas Turner,Nathan Harris and Cat Adams.
Billy Flynn was scary asf
No not the scene with Reid getting beat up. I still remmber that episode.
Good list but I have to say that Ian Doyle should have been #1 or at least #2. His 2 season arc was a great mystery then a horrifying terror that affected the entire team and helped to create the best, most intruiging major character backstory and developement. Just shocking, captivating in the mystery and 2 seasons of lingering angst.
The fact that Kay Adam’s was just an honorable mention and they put that weird puppet guy on the list over her is wild
Doyle should have made the list proper.
Looooove Tim Curry.
Foyet and Henkel, the ones that bothered me the most
