    For the garden, create a separate part with fences where he can run freely, also best to learn him pee and poop in 1 spot. For crate training, put a blanket over the crate so that he doesn't can look out or up, he'll feel more safe and will quickly start to appreciate his crate.

      I'm not a dog owner so I'm not sure about this, but if the dog hasn't been trained to be a guard dog or anything and are exposed to people and social interactions since they're a puppy, won't they naturally go against their innate behavior? Or do all dogs of a breed act almost exactly the same?

    • @Unknown_Number
      @Unknown_Number Год назад +21

      @@RandomVideos-yz5qf nope sadly not, they may become a lil bit more open to their owners but ive owned them ive got family who breeds them and all the ones ive had have grown comfortable around me but not past an extent, even without training them to be guard dogs they still are one its in there genes. they are lovely dogs just dont ever expect them to show love to you in anyother way except protection or laying at your feet at bedtime. they do grow strong bonds with owners though they just dont understand how to show that bond like other domesticated dogs do.

    Keep persevering with the crate training it’s such an important thing to have if ever you travel with him in the car or he has to stay at a family member or friends house. It just takes a bit of time. Also it’s like having a baby, sometimes you’ve just got to go against what you want to do and if they are crying just leave them and they might be quite (this is once he’s crate trained) otherwise they know they can cry and get attention which you don’t want if your in public. Sorry for the long comment just some things I’ve learnt from having puppies 👍

    when my dog is around the hoover he full on attacks it and will run LITERALLY everywhere in the house then go back and attack and repeats it till its off. He is a border collie. I think it might be possible for him to be a slight mix tho because he is much bigger then most other collies iv seen. Had him since a puppy and if theres anyone he doesnt know he will just nudge them, lick them, and or jump up at them (he does a little pounce thing not full on jumping)

    The only thing with a harness is that if the dog is quite strong or starts pulling when they’re on the lead then they might not be a good idea, but if he does start pulling you could get a halti, goes round their snout, isn’t restrictive on their face and stops them pulling

    So great to see that you guys got a breed that suits your guys lifestyle and you've done your research because too many people get a breed they have no idea about and don't look after them like they should be!

    • @Broccolibullherder
      @Broccolibullherder Год назад +3

      Not really. They’re usually not recommended for first time dog owners (which talia and Simon are) due to their aloofness and aggression with strangers. They should’ve got a Labrador or a golden retriever or something, something suitable for a first time dog owner. You can raise the dog as perfect as possible, but you can’t change genetics🤷‍♀️ mushu may grow up to hate strangers (something common with the breed) and so having people over, taking him to places etc will be hard for them. Why correct socialisation is so important - not just letting your dog get fuss from loads of strangers and having your dogs play with loads of random dogs

    I just got a puppy too (a German Shorthaired Pointer called Friday). She really went berserk in the crate at first too, but then it just clicked. She's going to quite large so I got the crate that she will need as an adult and getting her a puppy sized bed and a cover for the cage made her feel cozy enough in the big cage. I don't put water in with her because she has big ears and drags the water out too much lol. Its so much fun and watching them learn and grow, but also to see their natural bred tendencies, like the guard dog in Mushu, and the pointing that Friday does.

    • @mas5517
      @mas5517 Год назад

      It's not smart to use oversized crates, once the pup discovers it can pee in there it'll keep doing it. Best to size up in 2-3 times so they have a little bit more than sleeping space, dogs tend to keep their spot clean and it will be less likely to pee in there that way

    A chow chow for a first timer is a bit hard, theyre quite stubborn and free willed so you need to really focus on obedience training i really advice you to seek a professional trainer, socialise him as soon as he get the booster vaccine, make him play around dogs, cats children and anything that moves, because you said they're guard dogs a lot of them have prey drive in them theyre strong and big so they need to learn to be gentle around cats and children
    So to sum up
    -Extensive training is a must preferably a professional trainer there is one specific trainer in the uk called will Atherton
    -Socialisation is the most important step
    -grooming and coat health since its a thick coated dog
    And i hope you all the best, pets do really change lives so make the best out of him

      dont get one if you expect it to be a good pet they are a guard breed they wont break out of it they will calm down and gain a bond but you wont be able to do things with them like you can other dogs sometimes they wont even let you touch them for more than a few secs even after keeping and training it for months/years

      @@womanblack1108 nothing mate they arent a dog breed a beginner can get putting vids like this will harm the dogs breed than it does good im educating people on why they shouldnt get one as a ''pet'' why you got a problem with that or would you like people to get dogs that will become depressed and not do anything till they die or get thrown away?

      True. I think they'll be fine in the long term coz she mentioned they were gonna get him trained. But yep chow chows definitely end up being a lot of work to socialize and get them comfy but well worth it in the end
