It's actually a good practice to reinstall your Windows machine once a year. Since Windows is the most used OS, and thus there is quite much Malware circulating around that could bother your system or compromise your system. Using Linux though, is also a very good practice, since there isnt that much malware because it's not used as much and you have generally much more control over your system. Unfortunately, Linux is not the best option for everyone, especially not for gamers or people that are not as tech savvy. I know that Ubuntu has become very user friendly in recent years, and I use it too on my Laptop for university or Work related stuff, and I am also aware of using virtual Machines for programs that are not supported on Linux, but there are for example still some issues, especially for gamers: valorant for example simply wont Work in vms, Games Work better when being Run natively and the missing Support from Nvidia for Linux (drivers and stuff) is pure insanity. But using Linux is the best way, to make things better and through more people using it, it could eventually get more support from big Tech companies Like Riot Games or Nvidia.

And ALWAYS install your driver updates manually. I got lazy last night and decided to try out CCleaner’s driver updater tool. It did 30 of them fine, and the last one TRASHED my machine. The night before my last final exam too, with nothing to take my test on. Had to do a fresh install cause it was so fucked that I couldn’t even get into safe mode.
I haven't made a single fresh install of Linux on my own computers in years. Every time I get a new computer, I will simply copy one of my Linux installs to it and do some adjustments (removing unneeded proprietary drivers, reconfiguring the netwok interfaces, etc.).
No one sane has reinstalled windows since 2015 when the new twice-yearly gigantic updates started basically do the same thing. If anything goes wrong just run sfc /scannow and reboot and it fixes it
Conversely, my Windows 10 system is stable despite a series of upgrades and in-place "fresh" installs plus partial restores going back to Windows 3.0. Last install from media was going from XP x64 to 7, which had no proper upgrade path. My only current issue is due to overclocking: my AVX multiplier is set too high and, because it _very rarely_ causes problems, I've been too lazy to dial it in. Think I'll work on that today, actually.
I use 10 and haven't reinstalled in many years. When my hard drive showed signs of failing, I bought an SSD, cloned the hard drive, and then replaced it with the SSD. It's been working fine the last couple of years. I don't even reboot the computer more than once every few months. The memory eventually gags if I have a bunch of programs running at the same time, have close to a hundred browser tabs open, play music, and download files simultaneously. Then I have to save everything, close everything, and completely shut down and start back up fresh. 10 just works well for me.
People like to joke about how bad Windows is, but if you've run other OSes you know better. I used to run Ubuntu. About every 6 months it would fill up the hard drive completely with update files and then refuse to do anything until I painstakingly found them all and deleted them.
Haha, they're just great. Funnily enough they basically didn't use their registry for most critical stuff, so most things that were to configure just laid on the drive plain text. The bugs, such as logging in w/o password (not even talking about cracking/resetting it) are hilarious.

Dirk gently is one hell of a show ;)
Most insider program never makes it to the public. One similar project in recent memory was the Tabbed file browser.
Whoa the feature we had since Windows Xp now requires 4 clicks instead of 6 (no you don't need a windows repair usb)
I used to have a USB memory stick that I had all my default software and settings on. I created a script so I could take a fresh install of Windows to about 90% setup as I wanted it unattended. It was an absolute sod to get to work properly, and later I found that some updated versions of the software it installed would break the script.
It would be nice to revisit the idea, but life's WAY too short for that kind of messing about now.
Thanks for using a clip from Dirk Gently, love that show! Really sad it's been cancelled.

Useful advice: wait a few months after launch for reviews.
I'll reinstall windows whenever my pc goes to that blue screen and doesn't wanna start just to keep it fresh
I haven't made a single fresh install of Linux on my own computers in years. Every time I get a new computer, I will simply copy one of my Linux installs to it and do some adjustments (removing unneeded proprietary drivers, reconfiguring the netwok interfaces, etc.).
I thought you had to announce your sponsors. 😂😂😂

Windows is pretty much the only OS out here that shit it's pants so hard, you need to reinstall it once a year for smooth experience
Seriously, like, what the FUCK?
Even in the XP days you didn't need to reinstall every six months...
I never reinstalled mine, because it is a company laptop, for 2 years. It is working very well. It doesn't slow down. I am using Windows 10 pro.

I need this so badly. I'm getting this issue on my Acer Nitro 5 where the dGPU won't idle after turning on even though usage is at 0%, which makes the CPU 10-15°C hotter and ramps up the fans. After DDU-ing the display drivers and some other tweaks, nothing has fixed it. I was planning on biting the bullet and reinstalling Windows, but if this update is coming sooner or later, I may just wait and at least save my sanity of having to reinstall a bunch of random programs lol. This would really be a godsend especially if it helps with most issues.
what about cleaning the laptop?
@@mgguner it's not a hardware/cooling issue, it's almost certainly a software one. It'd been cleaned out, and if I unplug it for a minute or two, the GPU goes idle and the temps return to normal. Then, unlike before the issue cropped up, certain actions will activate the GPU again (even though the Nvidia hardware monitor will say nothing is using it), such as using certain Windows desktop environment features, like taskbar elements will turn the GPU back on and it won't go idle again. Very weird behaviour, and I'm sure a Windows reinstall would probably help.
@@bilalsadiq1450 ah ok
@@bilalsadiq1450 It could just be that windows thinks that the task requires the GPU instead of the iGPU. If that’s the case then a windows reinstall won’t fix it as it’s in the code, not some bug.
This happens with nvidia GPU's when two different resolution or refresh rate screens are being used. Reinstalling windows doesn't help with that in my experience as it's an nvidia issue.
