the playing by the band on the written / orchestrated parts is jaw-dropping - a human marvel. that the musical execution there is set against such a nonchalant, jovial / playful vibe is… the juxtaposition is remarkable. the aesthetic… it’s funny, “stupid”, and deadly serious all at once, and all completely in Frank’s control.
love that 20+ minute point in time… it’s energizing.

There is a video of the suite. Either this show or a similar show (without the poetry anyhow) and it's in B&W. It sounds exactly the same, with the same personnel (except for Sophia Warren) But it's amazing. I saw it a month ago

The "sick" comment is a follow up from the begining of the show (earlier same side) Track 6: "Diseases of the Band" and track 7: "Tryin´ to Grow a Chin". Have Fun =)

Much of this edit - including the poetry routine - is from the special afternoon show on Feb 18th 1979 - already certain bandmembers were under the weather. [I've heard the raw tape, and I'm guessing Warren's story of the bus in Lefrak City was edited out because it made him sound a bit Roy-ish, if you take my meaning].
Other parts come from Feb 19th, the troubled "diseases of the band" gig, which was also the source of Five Five Five.
Lest we forget: the final part of the suite, sung to the tune of Rollo Part 4, had only been added the previous year.

Conceptual continuity - (a) "bleeding from the mouth and rectum": Frank's story of the violence at El Monte Legion Stadium; (b) when Frank and some guys in the audience recite from Under Milk Wood, we remember Frank had quoted the same passage (with the same Zappa-embellishments) during some improv on the opening night of the Bongo Fury tour, (c) Frank jokes about Angus and his Garden poem in one of the '82 London gigs, as heard in the Stage 3 version of King Kong

And here... we have... a Zappa group that is mostly sick with fevers...playing the SHIT out of a VERY complicated song made only more complicated by Zappa's ad-libbing...and you can hear that even though they're sick to the point of vomiting...they're enjoying this concert. Absolutely one of his best bands.
