  • In this Hot Wheels Year-By-Year video we take a look at diecast cars and trucks released in 1995 through 1998 for the Hot Wheels mainline series of vehicles. This video showcases cars from the Collector Series, released as collector numbers 275 to 1121.
This video is a segment of that large collection, reviewing in detail all of the castings collection number 469through to number 508 of the regular released toy cars in the mainline.
You will see a total of 25 unique castings, and 51 variations from a total of 68 known variations sold in the North American market back in the mid-1990's. There are many variations with wheel changes, paint differences, and base changes to keep an eye out for. Some very interesting cars released in this lot include the Thunder Roller, '80s Corvette, Camaro Z-28, Hot Bird, Buick Stock Car, Ford Thunderbird, and a variety of Military Tanks, just to name a few!

I have the #3 Peugeot 405 Rallye carded. It was one of three blue card era carded Hot Wheels I found in a Value Village thrift store toy car grab bag around a decade ago, the others being a red Countach and a white "Star-Spangled Firebird" Hot Bird.
I have a few of the #2 Peugeot 405 (uncarded) that I also got at Value Village. I've never encountered the other version with the three colours.

I think in 1996 and 1997 Mattel wanted to use up some of their older casting so they sent them over to China. Some castings would never see the light after this such as many of the action command military vehicles. Other castings made a come back after a long hiatus, such as the Thunder Roller and the Classic Packard. Several Ex Corgi castings were also mixed in with the mainline castings as well. This happened at the same time when Mattel was going to buy the Matchbox brand.

    Hey O Dawg
Awesome seeing what mid late 90s cars I also have on Your review
Mainly the purple blue black puegot
I bought mine back probably 97 in Maryland still in package I so have a fondness for it still I thought it was quite an odd casting by Hot Wheels
I also have the 911 Targa corgi
    The Vette corgi
    Black Camaro
And more than half what You shown all bought in the late 90s displayed on My
Berthing wall when I was in the Navy
I had the berthing inspection Dept actually tour My room
They were fascinated by My Collection of Hot Wheels and 1/18 diecastcars
Always Love Your Hot Wheels reviews
    So informative Great Job 👍🏼😃👍🏼

Nice video thanks for that, not really my era thou, I more collect 80 black walls. That being said I do have a few of the red Rolling Thunder, as it's a casting I collect, I think I have a 2 or 3 on the card, and a couple loose, same does for the yellow Rolling Thunder. The other one I have is the Peugeot 205, on the card, IDK if it's just here in Europe, but that's an expensive car, especially mint on the card, when I say expensive, anything over £20 is expensive to me, I can't remember what I paid for the 205, think it was around £20-£30.

I always found the China made cars from these years in different stores. That included all the former Corgi cars. They were not mixed with traditional Malaysia made cars. They seemed to land at drug stores and smaller retailers, probably in smaller boxes. I never saw them at big box stores or toy stores that sold in bigger quantities. Anyone else notice this?

HW also made the 405 but only in the street version as far as I know.

Just made me randomly wonder about any diecastings of the original MadMax vehicles for some reason. Do you have any in your collection? They would be so radical and interesting for sure!

31:20 SouthTexasDiecast says it came from the 1996 Camaro 5-Pack. Looking on eBay and Google Images that car is certainly in that pack, but not on 7-spoke wheels. I would wager to guess it was a low run wheel variant for that pack. I have not been able to find any photos of that specific wheel variation, so just take it with a grain of salt until direct confirmation is found.

I feel like they look more better before now they look like is just painted
I remember the rims you could see thru them like real life I remember the headlights been made out of plastic and the details on the painting was top notch
Today I feel like they are just print a livery on a casting of a car
The rims are no longer see thru
The headlights are painted (printed) and a lot of the time the print is very out place to where it’s supposed to be and sometimes the cars don’t come with a front grill
I have a bentley continental gt
    With messed up headlight prints
No back lights they are there but they’re not painted 😂😂😂
The font grill doesn’t exist 😂😂 very bad drop of quality
