These are beautiful, Christy! I love your idea of using them on the Gelli plate. I definitely need to try that! Thanks for sharing the technique. I think they are beautifully grungy! ❤
Christy! I love seeing all the different processes you showed us. The final versions with gesso are perfect for a study insert to a journal. The less sturdy were fantastic looking as pieces in ephemera. That guest check was amazing!! Love your daily videos!
I love these dailies so much better than plain white. I think your gelli plate idea is great as well. I'd like to see those. Thanks for showing more than one process. Happy creating.
I just remembered I have large rectangular doilies (paper placemats? ) and staining them and folding them for a full JJ page is what I like. I can stamp etc or collage on it. The decorative edge on page looks pretty. PS: depression era or not, we in America waste a lot sadly. It’s not good to be a wasteful society filling landfills. Other countries I’ve been to, they appreciate and keep or use lots of stuff. I have 3 brothers but fortunately didn’t get beaten up although one just 2 yrs older to me was a bit bossier….He later felt bad and regretted it, we are fine now 😊. Lastly, it’s your channel and no one should criticize you for whatever, however you speak tbh. People are mean hiding behind anonymity. I love your authenticity and style ❤
@rkug777 agreed! My dad made me appreciate that. I should correct that, one of my brothers was not too bad, but nothing like my grandson is to his siblings. He's very kind. Thank you so much!😊💖
Love all the dollies and the check tickets (forgot name)! They all turned out great! I have too many doillies too. I'm going to try the gelli plate which is a good idea you mentioned too. Thank you so much
Isn't funny we acculate so many of these. I never thought about gesso 1st to strengthen them. My attempts have always ended up badly lol. I can't wait to try some with the gesso. As always...you rock Christy...😊
I love doilies. I coffee dye them and splatter them with watered down acrylic paints, decorate the solid middle...sometimes just plain white. I don't have a problem using them in signatures as a decorative accent. Just make sure you place them so they get a couple of the stitches you use to sew in the signatures. Have you ever tried using onion skins to dye paper? I love the look. Like the paper has aged naturally. To get a deeper color to your coffee dying (and onion skin) use more coffee/onion skin or less water. TFS Hope you have a great day. 🌞
@donnaswisher8408 thank you for sharing! I have a full gallon size bag of onion skins, and have not done it yet! I have to try it. I love the look of it, and I have avocado skins in freezer😊💖
I actually was working on doilies yesterday Christy, lol. I dyed a few with the watercolors I made, to go in the junk mail envelope journal I'm working on. 😊 Yes, they're way too think so I glued a piece of tissue paper to one side, the first one I made I glued to the "right" side of the doily, shoulda glued to the back, it did make it a little more durable. I'm thinking I may try just gluing two doilies together, they're so thin the glue should just seep through. I also added some of the watercolor to my glue to thin it a bit, so like how it colored the doilies. 🤭 Then I folded both sides of the doily, meeting the edges in the middle, and folded the bottom up about a 3rd to make a pocket, I had seen a video where they did something like that. 🤔 I also pulled out all my inks and sprays and organized them it was my project for today, didn't realize I had so many sprays, lol, so gonna be playing soon with them. I don't drink coffee, only use instant coffee to dye paper, and yes, I keep adding coffee to my water till I get the color I want. I also add a bit of alcohol to any that's left, keeps it from molding, I love using it so nice to always have a bit available. Thanks for sharing, great project Christy!! 💜💜💜
Hi Christy! ☺️. I love how your doilies came out with the added gesso and the rust water and splatters. It’s so funny because this whole week I’ve been trying to get out of my comfort zone so I’m trying lots of mixed media products I’m not familiar with. I used distress and oxide sprays and various mediums with stencils and stamps and doing the drying between layers…..lots of layers…lol. It sure is time consuming but oh my I’m in love with all the layers over each other that peek through….I am hooked! So this video is right up my alley girl. I love these doilies and will try this for sure…I only have two packages so guess I’ll be buying more soon..😂. By the way I had to try your popsicle embossing technique and oh they are gorgeous!! I only had little mini popsicle sticks (like 2 1/2” long) but they’re so cute and will be fun for a future project. Thank you so much for sharing that brainstorm. As far as any negative viewer’s comments pay them no mind….I adore how you do your videos……thanks so much! 🥰
@belindazimmer2107 thank you!! I'm so glad you're creating. It sounds like some exciting things! I love mixed media, so much. Don't worry, the negatives done bother me. I find it funny, but thank you so much😊💖
My 2 cents: you can iron doilies to wax paper and they’ll be super strong. Best to do it after inking, spraying etc to doilies. You can also stamp on doilies, very pretty I saw somewhere. You can place doilies on coffee stained papers and spray so that those intricate design transfer to papers. Some place doilies on white paper and coffee dye them together to get same results. As for coffee, I use $ store cheap coffee and using hot water works great. 1 cup water to say 3-4 spoons of instant coffee gives rich brown color. It can be put in a little spray bottle of course to spray away lol. Spraying vintage photo ink on the doilies as last step also make them super grungy. Txs for your experiments and inspiration. I have those guest checks too from DT. Recently coffee dyed them
Wow, that's some great advice, thank you so much! 😊💖 I love all the ideas,, thank you! And, dt has guest checks? I'll have to look! My dollar tree really didn't have much. I really appreciate all the great info😊💖
I don't like doilies at all--not white or grungy--but I enjoy your videos and I watched this video to the end. I love your transparency regarding mistakes and I find you refreshing.
@joannefrers9032 😆 mine were! I tell Hayden all the time, I wish I had brothers like you, because he's so kind, and protective of ALL his siblings. He's what am older brother should be😊💖
Try sprinkling crushed instant coffee grounds on top of your wet dollies and you will get a real grungy effect. They instant coffee will melt and add.Dark splotches. Once they dry and u melted grounds can be dusted off.

@@GraceBlossoms4U I know right! Some of mine are pretty flimsy, and I thought the same, but at least they'll make a cool design for some paper first! 😊💖 I'm probably not going to use them in the white state anyway.
