The realistic threat is not of civil war but of organised internal terrorism. That is the threat that we should ensure we are prepared for. We should be focusing similar resources to defending against such violence that we apply to protection from external threats. The relevant authorities ought to have significant funding boosts to enable them to respond better to internal threats.

I used to think I knew how civil wars start, but after last week I realized I was wrong. Civil wars actually start when a president declares war on their own people in a public address.

If people decide to have another civil war they won’t last long against the military but politicians are having one amongst themselves Ds vs Rs, North vs South, same thing and WTP are the ones suffering the damage from it. Without bipartisanship our system is nearly useless. There’s a major difference between 1776 and 2022, everything has changed except for our outdated government.
How did Vietnam and Afghanistan do against the military? Their army’s were very small. What is the military going to do to 50 million people? It won’t be like you think it will. Most military folks won’t turn on their own people and most military bases are in red areas. Democrats live in cities easily cut off from food. Maybe not smart to pave over the garden. Maybe not smart to have a war when you can’t shoot. Texas has 3 million hunters. Our army has about a million men most overseas. Maybe we should talk it out.

Australia's government system is largely based on yours & works just fine. Only real difference is preferential/ranked voting, which allows independents to more easily get elected & hold the balance of power when the 2 parties act like children & the people get sick of it. Your problem is simply that you tollerate politicians acting like children instead of representing you, like you voted them in to do - combined with far too many of you not even bothering to show up & do your civic duty of voting! Over 95% of over 18 year old Aussies cast a valid vote in the last election. How many voted in your last election & how many will vote in your next election?

I'm not wild about saying "people of African descent" instead of talking about their skin color. We're all of African descent, it's just that some of that descent is more recent. If you mean black people, say black people. If you don't like the term "black" with its negative connotations of evil and darkness, "African Americans" is...okay, I guess, but not very accurate*. Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but it feels like tiptoeing around terms involving race is part of why we have trouble getting past our racial history in this country.
_*: I hate the term African American because it puts an inherent qualification on the American-ness of people with dark skin. My family has been in the US since about 1919, when my grandmother came here as a child (I should specify that I'm white). Americans descended from African slaves have had their family here since at least 1865. Why is my American-ness the default, with no qualifiers, but theirs needs a diluting qualifier? It shouldn't.
