So Keith is easily hypnotized and Becky freely admits that she could probably easily be convinced to join a cult. Should we be worried? Lol
Honestly I’m also* somebody who is really drawn to cults before they go bat shit, but I think if you’re aware that you were attracted to cults to you actually wouldn’t be able to get roped in. There’s a self-awareness element that people who are genuinely susceptible to cults don’t have in the moment. And for Becky, she’s got a good community around her and that isolation sense of powerlessness doesn’t seem to be a pervasive thing for her that cults typically pray on 🤔
I would be if they weren't so healthy in other ways and didn't have such a great support system :)
Wait... are they part of the Try Guys on their own free will? Keith/Becky - blink twice if you are in distress!

Imagine doing that with Ned. "My favorite color's red because it rhymes with Ned." Or for Ned to forget his wife!
Love how Kwesi took the opportunity to ask Zach what’s his social security number.
That's actually a great way to wake someone up. You can see Zach completely change demeanor. Asking someone to strip naked often does it as well.
That cracked me up just as much as the rest of the crew! 😂

Oh my
I feel like this is just one of those things I can't really believe about unless it actually happens to me.
I'm not able to be hypnotized but I have friends that can be and have seen them be hypnotized so it's legit. No way they would do the stuff they did without being hypnotized.
Same!
My brother went to a hypnotism show a few years ago, and he said he did get put under until they started gathering audience members to go on stage. He woke up while an assistant was walking him over.
Yes, that may be. Or maybe you're the type who prefers science journals? There's not a lot on hypnotism but they've learned some interesting things here and there.
@@SohiHien Same, I can't easily be put under even if I'm trying to, but I did learn hypnotism to help my wife with getting to sleep at night. I wasn't sure if it would work either, but after she woke up the first time and told me she had no recollection of the process, I started recording our sessions for the sake of transparency. Every time I showed her the audio for review, she never recognized anything, even though we were both awake and talking during the process. That alone suggests that we successfully got her into an alternate state of mind at least.
Ned is a hypocrite. Doesn’t like to lose control and yet makes his wife experience a total blindside and loss of control with his betrayal. Cheaters are the lowest people.
He was probably afraid he would spill the beans while under.
He was so nervous and said he was stressed. He definitely was worried he was going to slip up and admit to being a scumbuag.
After what happened, rewatching the videos, it sort of shows how narcissistic he really is which also explains hating losing control and manipulating other people :(
@@Wildflower687 well, that was a couple years ago though and most likely before this specific affair happened. However who knows how long he’s been slimy and cheating
i'm not agreeing at all or condoning his choices, but he isn't a hypocrite. he isn't one because he finds another outlet of "control" by having an affair. that's what cheating narcissists do.

"Hi Kwesi. You look good at this angle." Love how much Zach always compliments his friends on their beauty. You go King of Masculinity.
Psych nerd here, took AP and then a few courses sophomore year, but from a psychology standpoint-- you don't have to be afraid of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a combination of suggestion and tapping into the brains natural relaxation patterns. We're not entirely sure how all the chemical components work out, but you can never be forced to do something you don't want to, even if you have a subconscious desire to but don't want to perform an act out of a more conscious social expectation, you'll still be able to stop yourself. It relies heavily on how much you want it to happen, and how thorough the hypnotist is.
I think your point is perfectly illustrated with Zach's responses 'n at
Yup. Your subconscious is looking out for you. Hypnosis is a collaboration between subject and practitioner.
I was going to say, this is probably why the gorilla thing didn’t work out too well because I don’t think jake would ever want him acting like a gorilla to exist in the world on or off camera haha 😂
I've been stage hypnotized twice, once on a cruise and once at Colin Mochrie's improv tour. I'm sure it's somewhat different in a therapy setting, but I found it to be half a feeling a bit like being drunk where if someone says "OMG you should totally
Studies are still mixed on it being a therapeutic tool though, not dogging anyone who benefitted from it. Priming, manipulating heuristics are my guesses in how a person becomes more suggestible.
hi guys, this is a warning abt betterhelp, and im so serious. basically BetterHelp is in deep shit right now for releasing private information things like your race your gender your age and if they have been caught releasing those things who knows what else is happening. I personally have had two therapists, the first one I was with and the one that I’m with now, jump ship because of those things and the therapist I have right now told me about everything she could. so I just want to let you guys know whoever is reading this that there are a lot of therapists who are leaving BetterHelp right now because of the things that are coming out about them, maybe look for other platforms or like a local clinic, please stay safe. there are a lot of therapists who Will do phone calls !!!
Seriously I've been meaning to make a comment every time I listen to the podcast. Websites like better help undercut therapists who already get taken advantage of by insurance companies
Comments like this make me grateful for holding out 4 years (and one OK college counselor) to have actual insurance coverage for therapy. I'm excited and nervous but I would be more scared using apps and online programs like BetterHelp
They're not a great company so whatever reasons you have for not using them are valid but you sound very very young saying it like this lol "Private information like your race/gender/age" that is not private information, you have likely given it to thousands of sites. Very silly to get hung up on that specifically when the company is a mess for actually important reasons.
I checked that Mickey Atkins still has her second video about Better help on her channel. Better help demanded her to remove the first one. Tbh this sponsorship made a little bump on my trust on the Try guys team.
@@jijitters It’s still private information whether you give it out or not. Under the European GDPR things like ethnicity and medical details even fall under sensitive private information. So most companies may not even register that, you need to have a very plausible reason for it.
I've never understood how you're supposed to relax when they're speed talking and snapping over and over and over again in your face 😂
Also the hypnotist - a guy you've never met before - suddenly pulls your arm. I'm not comfortable with strangers suddenly touching me. Not possible to relax at all🤣

The tugs and snaps are part of what causes the hypnosis. You are led into an open state, then the tug or snap momentarily leaves your brain in a state of confusion, which is the moment your brain is most suggestible. They are what is called a "rapid induction" techniques.

Actually, that might help. The patter isn't meant to be understood by the conscious brain, it's just there to focus the person on the hypnotist. Although, that's just one way of doing it. In a room with less noise, he wouldn't have to talk over it.

I'd like to see you do a part two of this video but couple it with the "drunk vs high' videos. Get some people drunk, get some people high, then see if it's easier or harder to hypnotize them in their altered state.
I can confirm that being slightly high does make you more easily hypnotized. Even having one beer can help, but once you're stoned or drunk, it becomes much harder because it's harder to focus.

There's been so many things come out about betterhelp that are really worrying (privacy concerns, not paying their therapists fairly...)
Plus it's not actually very affordable, even with their "sliding scale".
BetterHelp preys on vulnerable people and heavily benefits from the fact that mental health care is hugely inaccessible in this country.
@tryguys @secondtry please don't advertise for better help!
Yeah it's sad they're still taking sponsorships from them tbh
The ending with Zach killed me, the little “oh” when he realized it was the wrong video
When I was in high school we would have a hypnotist come every year and do a show. He would take about a dozen students from the audience, it was hilarious. Then one year a student thought he was a ninja fighting bad guys and doing back flips and kicks all over the gymnasium. Well it turned out he broke his wrist and didn't know it until after he came out of hypnosis. That was the last time we had a hypnotist come to put school. It was so awesome seeing kids that you grew up with (I went to a small high school, only 155 in my graduating class) act like such crazy weirdos.
Honestly, sounds lucky all he broke was his wrist.

Hasn’t there been like .... a fairly decent amount of really bad information about Better Help coming out being sort of a scam? I was kind of surprised that they’re still taking sponsorships from them, I hope I’m just missing something.
Yeah basically the ad reads youtubers get and their official company statements don’t line up. They don’t guarantee a professional qualified therapist, they’re not subject to HIPAA guidelines (and have sold people’s info to facebook before), and they’re overpriced to boot.
a contract is a contract.
Yeeeah... i ended up caving and trying betterhelp. Its crazy expensive, even though i qualified for a “financial aid” plan (which only lasted 2 months lol. But yeah, it was stupid.
Yes you are correct. It's a predatory company that relies on the fact that mental health care is hugely inaccessible and that people in need of therapy are often desperate for help. It's a sign of a way bigger problem in this country. But also, I generally expect a little better from the Try Guys.
i was thinking the same
He should’ve seen if he could make Ned forget the name of his wife lmao
I’ve seen a couple of hypnotist shows like this fellow. When he was describing who is less likely to be hypnotized I finally understood why I was never chosen to go up from the audience, hahahah! I also like learning about the entertainment/pop hypnosis vs psychology and hypnotherapies in the comments here; tryceratops are so smart. Fun vid. Jake was so precious at the end!
If you want more hypnosis tidbits of info, here's some:
I was learning how to become a hypnotist (to reasonable success) in order to help my wife sleep better. While researching, I found horror stories of kids messing around with hypnosis and really harming people. The masters insist that you shouldn't learn hypnotism in the first place... it's not something most people are capable of handling in a purely altruistic mindset. And while the subconscious mind has some good protections against in-the-moment actions, it can still be forcefed new associations that can permanently affect someone... Importantly, programming into someone "commands" or "triggers" needs to have a TIME LIMIT baked in... Like a contract that expires after a year and needs to be renewed...
"Whenever you hear a car honk, you'll sneeze" is something that can potentially go on forever. That's probably why a lot of stage hypnotists will make the trigger THEMSELVES... "When I clap my hands", "When you feel my hand on yours"... Etc... Because there's no time for constructing a limit, but the subject is still extremely unlikely to run into the trigger again.
I believe that the danger of poorly-executed hypnosis was blown up a little bit because 1. It's priming to believe it's potent, which makes it more potent and 2. It suggests that paying for a master course is the best route to go down. Although, they're not exactly wrong.
But the most serious piece of info that I saw was this: By telling people that hypnotism can't make you do anything you don't want to do, and that you are safe from mind control, THAT IS PART OF THE HYPNOTISM. It has already started by the time they say that. And it's a good thing to say/hear. It protects the subject. It's like wearing a helmet. It makes them more resilient to harmful hypnosis. That's why everyone repeats it: because the more people who believe it's true, the safer we all are. But don't worry, it's still true, even if people don't believe. It's just extra precaution.
Wild shit right? I don't really see anyone talking about ethics and safety in hypnotism so I thought you'd like to know ^^

@@Queer_Nerd_For_Human_Justice a lot of what you said isn’t true. I went to hypnosis for pain control with a guy who taught self hypnosis to Navy SEALS for the same reason. Long before I was willing to try it, he explained it to me in detail. He was a licensed therapist and gave me the background.
Yeah, there's 2 snakes in the room. Richardo was right about that part.
Keith forgetting his name and Zach acting like a man baby? Sounds pretty on brand to me
The 'richard' thing wasn't reeeeaaaallly hypnosis, it was stage magic. I was not surprised when he said he started out as a magician. I would love an episode where they talk to an actual hypnotherapist, I think that would help the skeptics understand what hypnosis actually is.

Omg really?! What does it feel like when you're hypnotized?
@@wakeupitskelsey it’s very relaxing and a little weird. When you are driving a car and time just passes by and you forget you’re driving, that’s hypnosis.
I think it's not actually the goal. The brain can only focus so much and so adding audible and physical distraction gets the brain set to 'simple commands' mode. It's like asking traumatic accident victims silly questions like their favourite colour, of they like animals etc they are simple questions for the brain to answer. It's easier for the brain than processing the accident. So the shock reflex eases off. Doesn't always work but it is a strategy to try calm people down.

I was hypnotized during a college show and afterwards he said I was halfway in, because my brain wouldn’t let me go all the way, which I was good with. My roommate went allllll the way. It’s definitely real. It’s more like a removal of inhibition than mind control. He said a belt was a snake, and I remember thinking haha…that belt is not a snake…but what if it is though? I’ll save the guy wearing it. It was fun.
I love the videos when we get to see more of the TryStaff, so awesome to see how the channel has expanded and brought on amazingly talented people!
This guy was more of a stage performing hypnotist. I would have liked to see a psychological hypnotist that helps with over eating or smoking cessation.
this! and i would like the try guys to actually talk about how it felt...
Or Zachs pain management.
Agree! would love to see them do deeper delves into psychology in general tbh, like maybe even a series testing different therapy methods and at the end the guys say which one worked best for them.
Exactly! Hypnosis can happen, but it's not like it's magic or something. It would have been interesting if they delved into the medical side of it.
@@TheNikkePikker exactly! That would have kept me engaged more. This was more of a side show. 🤣😂
Certified hypnotist here. All hypnosis is self hypnosis. I can only guide you. You have to be the one to follow the instructions and relax enough to do it. Also, your subconscious mind is highly moral and wants to keep you safe above all else so you will snap out of it if the suggestion goes against your morals or will put you in danger.
Have you ever been watching TV and it took some a few times to get your attention? That is because we enter a light trance when watching TV. Why do you think advertisers started doing product placement in TV shows. It is a suggestion going straight to your subconscious mind and bypassing the consious mind that can easily reject.

@@kittykitties4220 there is an important difference between hypnotherapy and hypnosis in a show
@@karmapolice9477 exactly, all the evidence surrounding hypnosis is on clinical hypnotherapy. there’s no evidence that tells us hypnosis in a show is anything more than a big magic trick
@@kittykitties4220 Because a lot of what people believe about it isn't based in reality.
@@piquantement Well, that's definitely true, some people think some type of magic is going on or that the person hypnotizing you has a lot more power than they actually do.

Just FYI this is not BS 😅 have seen it in action - it’s all real, unedited stuff. He is actually playing with their brains
My grandpa was a hypnotist! He was really good at it, could hypnotize almost anyone and was locally pretty well known for it even though he never did it in an official capacity.
There's a reason why we like Keith...
His positivity seeps through all.
As much as I want to believe in hypnotism, it just feels extra cheesy. There are hypnosis things I’ve dabbled in, that didn’t include a person continuously talking-talking-talking. That might be what throws me off. Like a magic trick but the magician is reading off how his trick is done without taking a breath.
It’s odd because while those things seem somewhat similar to me, although magic seeming much more interesting, one thing I would not play with is voodoo or ghost-seeking stuff. Once it goes into the spirit realm, I’m not a skeptic anymore lol
Agreed. I couldn't relax or be comfy with that kind of loud, frenetic energy.
i think there's definitely science behind it, like the power of it, especially in a group because if everyone is in doing it then it's powerful, like the need to fit in is so strong even subconsciously
@@beepatpen There is science behind it, but it's a lot more easily explained than people imagine. It can be easily explained by the tendency for humans to conform in social settings and peer pressure. So people who are more prone to conformist behaviours are more likely to act hypnotised.
In stage hypnosis like this part of how it works is BECAUSE the guy is usually throwing off rapid fire suggestions and it barely gives you any time to react to them or mull them over in your head before you're basically being pushed into an action. In more longer form hypnosis with a proper induction, the trance is deepened and is individualized to the person. I've been hyperfixated on hypnosis ever since i was 12 years old and I've hypnotized lots of friends over the course of 9 years, some worked better than others. It makes sense to me that keith would be very suggestible, he reminds me of my friend who is also incredibely suggestible. Stage hypnosis usually doesnt put someone in a very deep trance so usually people still feel awake and aware, but just like they went along with the suggestions because they didnt really feel like resisting, so skeptics can usually write it off as just peer pressure. The truth is that most people are able to be hypnotized. Trance states actually occur naturally in people even if we dont notice it. A common example is if you've ever driven somewhere you've driven before a million times, so you don't have to think about the directions. People can enter driving trances while their body is on a form of autopilot and when they eventually get to the destination, they find they dont really remember the drive or were consciously aware of their driving choices. I'm sure almost everyone in the room could reach a form of trance if they were to have more individualized trances with a non-stage hypnotist. Hypnosis is all about relaxation, and by nature of stage hypnosis, if people struggle with being in public or have anxiety, they cant relax enough for them to enter a light trance for the stage hypnotist. The more "on guard" you are, the less you can be persuaded to enter trance. I have a friend who is basically impervious to trance, which is actually more rare to me. I am also impervious to trance in a way due to the way my brain works, but i am able to enter a form of self trance and suggestions do work for me, so my problem is more that i cant trust another person to hypnotize me so i just do it myself :P
Oh wow i went off on a tangent whoops, anyway yeah my point was basically that hypnosis isn't nearly as scary or magical as people think, it's super cool though ^-^

It does happen elsewhere. I have seen it done to friends before. They said they didn't remember what happened and felt groggy afterwards. But only one half or one third of the people who signed up could be hypotized. I didn't join, just watched.
at least 50% of this kind of hypnosis has got to be social pressure
if it's a big group of people having fun you're gonna wanna kinda go along to see what happens even if you're not really feeling it
I study hypnosis as a hobby, and I can confirm that it is mostly peer pressure. The level of suggestions that he's making would require a lot more preparation than just "you're a hunter". Ned definitely was not hypnotized, but he was acting under peer pressure. A good hypnotist would have given a better pre-talk to calm any nerves about what hypnosis can and cannot do.
@@MsAliciaRL There were so many cuts in this video it's hard to know what actually happened. And we didn't get to hear from them at the end how they felt about it. That just adds to the sketch factor for me.
@@karalee6522 When you know more about hypnosis, you can see clear signs of when someone is in trance. I mentioned Ned because even with his eyes closed, he looked tense and nervous. I don't think Richard did a good job with his pre-talk, which is supposed to relieve that nervousness and it would have helped with Qwesi's skepticism.
I was one to request this video, and it was just disappointing for me. I think a hypnotherapy session would have been a more interesting video than a standard stage hypnosis show.
@@karalee6522 I was really looking forward to hearing from them how they felt, how it felt to be under hypnosis and when that didn't happen, it made me think a lot of it was likely the peer pressure. Kinda bummed.
I don't think so. If you're that influenced by peer pressure, you're more hypnotizable anyway. I can't say for the entire show, there's a lot we don't see, but a lot of what he was doing is very doable with normal hypnotism. You get good at evaluating people instantly. Which is also why you can't really fake it even if you wanted to... They usually kick you off stage if you come out of it so you can enjoy the show properly. It's hard to get picked for hypnosis. They write people off for the smallest signs. And let me just say, no offense but... Nobody's that good at acting. When people are not hypnotized, they're fully awake. There's a deliberation to their movement and a light in their eye. They make decisions. They think. They make eye contact. They hesitate. But under hypnosis, they're not using their body or their eyes. They're enjoying a nice dreamlike high in an internal world. It would be like someone saying "No I don't need a bathroom break" while doing the potty dance. You can lie, but you can't fool an informed eye. What would the point be, anyway? It's far more embarrassing to do the trick on purpose while awake, than it is to sit down and enjoy others doing it. I don't believe the peer pressure theory. Maybe in a church. I've seen people do weird shit for Jesus. But in a hypnosis show, nobody tries to turn your entire community against you for not being invested in it. Skeptics are annoyingly self-centered but harmless and kinda cute. I don't think people hate them or anything. There's no downside to sitting down. There are ALWAYS people who can't or don't want to be hypnotized at every show. Plus, the ratio of successful hypnosis goes up for simpler tasks and down for more complex or objectionable ones. That's why almost everyone was got with the balloon prompt, and why Zach snapped out of it when Kwesi was pranking him.

@@crys_s_m Not really misinformation, just that hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis are two different things that access the same aspect of out psyches thru different means and to different ends.
@@micheal2458 no, it’s misinformation as “stage hypnosis” isn’t actually a real thing. It’s a play off hypnotherapy and it does not work the way it continues to be presented. And THAT is the misinformation.
Didn't Phil DeFranco get canceled for airing a BetterHelp ad a few years ago?!? Kinda cringe Try Guys are supporting them now, considering the scandal that is their data selling policy, inability to guarantee professional therapists (so you might literally be receiving care from someone not trained to be a therapist), large fees, and general poor business practices/mental healthcare. Basically trying to profit off of mental health issues without doing the due diligence to check the quality of the advertised service (which given the history of lawsuits against BetterHelp seems to be pretty poor).
