James Garner, reading the script: "I dunno about this one. I mean, it's got a woman pretending to be a man who's pretending to a woman? Audiences are gonna find that too confus-" James Garner's agent: "Julie Andrews has signed on." Garner: "I'm in."
They sadly do not make movies like this anymore. Victor Victoria is my all time favorite comedy (followed by Murder by Death, Erik the Viking, and Ice Pirates). How it did not receive a ton of academy awards I'll never understand. The movie is a perfect package and the actors were phenomenal but, Lesley Ann Warren and Robert Preston were absolute genius. The music and choreography are spectacular too, especially Le Jazz Hot. I never get tired of this film.
Dune137 Julie Andrews & James Garner are brilliant & phenomenal together! Preston & Julie's chemistry I love as well! Julie hands down is hot as Victor & stunning sexy as Victoria! The end she looks so drop dead gorgeous! Hilarious Romantic awesome singing. & dancing!!!
What if they still do? What if they still make movies like this nowadays? I'm here to tell you about it. I'm planning to put together a Retro Decade Revival Project. Our goal is to bring real entertainment, true talent, pure originality and diversity, old school and more back into the public mainstream, starting with the 1980s. Soon, there will be more and more movies like this, straight-forward comedies with non-stop slapstick, crazy characters, sharp dialogues and farcical situations are gonna be more popular than ever along with musicals.
I totally agree with 'everything" you wrote. Ole Robert Preston, out did himself and I thought he was good in The Music Man: However, in my opinion, he was even better in Victor Victoria!
@@mlchc9004 agreed. Everyone in this movie was absolutely great! And who could not love Julie Andrews... she's a beautiful woman with a heavenly voice. And James Garner....grew up watching him on the Rockford Files...what a great actor and with surprising comedic talent. It's just one of the most perfect movies in my opinion.
When I was a in middle school me and my best friend were all about theater and film so we went to an event with his mom who was in advertising to meet Shirley Jones (Partridge Family Mom) in rehearsal for a show she was doing. Afterwards we attended a Writers Seminar featuring Blake Edwards who taught the class of about 40 people. Good times!
For some reason I think this movie is my all time favorite Blake Edwards movie, I know I only watch the classic Pink Panther movies but now I've watched Breakfast at Tiffany's but watching this I've never seen so much slapstick with music and songs this amazing before, it's so funny and so entertaining as this film, I love it and best comedy film from Blake Edwards one of hollywood's great but cult filmmakers from Hollywood and absolutely enjoyed Julie Andrews, James Garner and Robert Preston's performances they're great.
One of my favourites, they’re all so good in it. Great Henry Mancini tunes. And wasn’t the waiter in Adam Ant’s Goody Two Shoes video? (Watched that yesterday - I’ve obviously got waaaay too much time on my hands).
Since when did trailer start to tell the whole story of the movie including every mayor scene, instead of giving just the vibe of the movie without really telling anything, like this one. I want to watch this movie, because I want to know the story.
Victor/Victoria Was Filmed In Paris, France and Victor/Victoria Was Filmed By MGM Stands For Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Victor/Victoria Was Filmed In 1982
Kyle Sievertsen - It was all filmed at the Pinewood Studios in England not in Paris. The original intention was to use Paris but there were too many modern items like television aerials to make it feasible. This is explained in the very interesting Blake/Julie commentary extra on the Victor Victoria blu-ray.

@@3amknowsmysecrets I think everyone who watched this video is, even just a little bit.
A mega hit movie that still holds up. When it came out people spoke in hush tones about it.
Rest in Peace James Garner, you were so wonderful in this film (and many others) we will never forget you!
Julie Andrews was a goddess in this movie but she is in all her movies

Love, love, love this movie. Saw it on Broadway as well in ‘95. Not a great production, but I got to see Julie Andrews in the flesh.
That was one of my biggest regrets in life...I so wanted to see her in Tampa, but wasn't able to.....Love this movie/production....
I love this movie as it made me laugh so much throughout .....another character whom I feel was hilarious was Leslie Ann Warren.
Completely agree....and Leslie Ann Warren was amazing and should have received an award.
