@Wermy, thank you for taking the time to share this project and the custom pieces for it. I just started assembling parts to build mine and wish I had seen some of this prior to buying a few of the pieces. I might just save them for later and buy the all in one board.
Looking forward to the new build videos from these parts. Really looking forward to you getting your hands on the kite PCB as well, that's game changing.
This is really evolving quickly! Personally, I'll wait a bit until more stuff comes out, and also because I currently do not have the resources (time and money) for such a project. Really nice to see how this idea has grown! Good job, mate.
Awesome! Thank you very much and please continue evolving this project. Building it with no original parts but preserving the overall look and feel is IMHO the correct direction. An aftermarket shell is cool too. Maybe a 3d printed option is also possible? And a pi3 version could be a future project right? Finally, I believe a software hub could also come forth for such a device for new homebrew games optimized for this hardware so that it won't stay limited to emulation.
Wermy, I've been looking for a while now and haven't seen Helders order change from sold out for this board. Would like to purchase a couple of these boards, but with no result. Thanks man, keep up the awesome vids
pleaaaase another gameboy zero with all the custom parts :D but if there is any custom part that someone is working now wait a little bit more :) greeeeat work man!
I can't wait to see the aftermarket build, I think with that last board and the screen protector then you have everything to make a professional looking handheld. Wish someone would make a Gameboy case that had the 4 buttons on the front, that'd be the bees knees.
And use a 640x480 instead of 320x240 as well if i'd build one, which i want to. But yes, it's just time to make everything for this almost liek a kit. With a new case, with all the places for buttons already in, with notches on the case and othe boards so they match up, so it's basically just an easy build. Maybe have a single website to buy all of your parts, with some options, like screens, case, buttons, etc.
I've also seen a speaker expansion to go stereo, they are the things you stick in the bottom stereo out, usually for headphones. I take it those would still just work, but, would it be possible to make two of those speakers in the housing, since the new all-in-one 1.4 PCB leaves you more space, maybe connect two at the same time to one out, so mono sound over two speakers ? Or would that not fit ? Because stereo standard and still having the option for headphones would of course be better. Or would it even be possible for those speakers to actually be stereo ? That would be even better. All these new things and maybe possibilities woudl really lift it to the next level.
You need to suggest to helder etc to make these parts available online through either handheld legend or kirsch-bent. That way more people can get access to these
Nice, I liked a lot the last PCB that you show, the black one that already contains the sound, and USB hub, I started a project just like you demonstrated before, however I burned the PCB, I mistake the cut and now is not working... Some of my PCB parts where also very old and the plastic was already weak... I'll wait for your new video. I'm from Brazil, so here are a bit hard to find and also hard to import those parts, some sellers doesn't sent overseas, only US delivery.
Any chance of ever having an overview of some different part options and their pros and cons ? Some case options. Screen options, i'd like a 3,5" 640x480 option, is there one ? Buttons, what is better ? I found silicone and plastic options. I'd order 2 sets of each (since you'll need 2 sets of AB buttons, or maybe 3, for L and R buttons, thoughts ?) I also want a color scheme, but for the dmg there aren't many options, are the buttons for the gbc or pocket the same size and usable ? That would increase choice dramatically. Really looking forward to your fully custom build, not using any original GB parts, i want to go that same route.
Where is the link to that black helder's board ? the one you linked is completly different, think its an old broken version as it said there is issues with the audio on that one. One you listed has a red pcb completely different from the one you showed & a blue one that is completely different again.. Just i like that black one you showed with all the stuff added like audio, amp, usb, arduino all added onto the pcb.
This is very exciting! I watched all 6 parts of the original guide, but I am too amateur, so I am very excited to hear you're doing another guide with custom parts. I will definitely try to do it myself! Which button circuit board will you be using in the new guide? Will you be using the all in one from Helder?
Hey are you able to do an updated version of these as it seems that some of the customs parts are no longer being done and i would like to do one myself.
Hi wermy loved the videos they are so helpful actually made this seem achievable. I'm planing to use a pi 3 with all aftermarket parts if you could use a pi3 for your next video that would be awesome
Werny I can't thank you enough for making such a great effort. I'm looking forward to your next series of videos on how to build Gameboy Zero using the custom parts. Question: given that we buy all these custom parts, do we still need a gameboy or a gameboy housing (just the plastic and the button) should suffice ?
+wermy i would REALLY like to know if you make them to order? i really want one but i wouldn't last 2 mins with the wiring. if you do make the to order how much for and postage to the UK?
So that last board is probably a good one to use for someone who is less familiar with doing all of this kind of stuff? I really want to build one of these - I think it would be really neat to show to people and would be a sweet taste of nostalgia for me to play games on while still getting variety but I am relatively new to this whole world.
+wermy Would it be possible to set up something like a store on your site? Something that has all of the things people are making and selling in one spot so it's easier to find everything would be fantastic
after watching your builds, i want to build a gameboy zero of my own. only thing is i prefer the original GBA and have a spare that stopped working. any parts i can use for that?
wow, i have discovered this kind of mods soon and your work is pretty damn amazing man. Surely I will try to build my own gameboy pi proyect but I am thinking on using the raspberry pi 3, but I dont know if I am going to be able to put all parts together inside of a gameboy. Nevertheless, I have seen that the raspberry pi zero have troubles some emulators (not to talk about N64). Can you tell me how much power this board has and what emulators I can run al stable 60FPS? Thanks mate, you have a new subscriber, keep your hard work
Hello! great parts, specially for people like me (I'm not an engineer or anything). I wanted to ask, why do you mention arduino? I thought this could be done with RB pi.
I really want to see the new build, preferrably without having any original gameboy parts, and all the updated circuitboards and all that. How cool would it be to buy these in parts all ready to go with easier and less connections and holes already in the right places and all that. Because i really want this, but i am not good at this sort of stuff at all. Hell, i'd just want to buy one ready made to be honest. Then i pop out the micro-SD card (please send along a micro-SD card reader along with it, though i can buy one myself), and put on the games i want myself.
Hey Wermy, I wanted to build ibe using the custom parts but my parents are reluctant to buy from a third party, are these available on a major retailer like Amazon or EBay?
Is there anyone out there who can print out a custom button PCB board for something other than the old Game Boy? Wanting something that will fit in one of the DS models but registers as WASD keys and various other keyboard keys.
its seem that everyone that is making a raspberry pi game handheld are making ones based on gameboys wich is cool cuz there always a classic but i was wondering about something more like a psp to have the joystick movement ability when it comes to games is there any options as to boards or parts to do something more like a psp on a honest note i have very little to no electronic skills anymore haven't done anything in years but interested in making something that i know i would use
So why doesn't someone take a Raspberry Pi Zero, reverse engineer it, and replicate the back board of the gameboy with the pi built in? So this way you have the cart connector and everything on one board. Also have the headers on it for the headphone jack and all that other jazz that you have to glue into the case? So this way it is pretty much drag and drop with out the need for tons of modifications to the original gameboy case?
Hi, first of all great videos, they are usefull. last, are you going to do a gameboy zero with the custom parts? specially with the last board, it looks like a killer for small spaces, something like a gameboy color zero? hahaha
Go figure, this video comes out after I ordered half the parts I need. Oh well haha, but I'm sure one of the button pcb's will be on my order list next anyway.
@Wermy, thank you for taking the time to share this project and the custom pieces for it. I just started assembling parts to build mine and wish I had seen some of this prior to buying a few of the pieces. I might just save them for later and buy the all in one board.
so the all in one boards are sold out. can someone give me helders email
Looking forward to the new build videos from these parts. Really looking forward to you getting your hands on the kite PCB as well, that's game changing.
Hands down one of the BEST guides for anything I've seen in a while! can't wait to get started on mine!
Seriously can't wait for the new guide so excited!!! Doing this for an engineering assignment
I'll be honest, I'm looking forward to you next GBZero build videos using these custom parts.
soooo true! i really want to see that too!
That'd be awesome.
Wow this is really coming along! The modding community are just awesome :)
This is really evolving quickly! Personally, I'll wait a bit until more stuff comes out, and also because I currently do not have the resources (time and money) for such a project.
Really nice to see how this idea has grown! Good job, mate.
I can't wait for the follow up builds!

I'd like to see a build using the all-in-one board by Helder! Thanks for all of the help :)
Wermy, I've been looking for a while now and haven't seen Helders order change from sold out for this board. Would like to purchase a couple of these boards, but with no result. Thanks man, keep up the awesome vids
Nice, oh so nice. I bet these part can be used for other projects as well, like a SNES portable.
I wish a new video will pop up soon using the new All in One board, love your job ! ;)
Soon! Just waiting for a few more parts to arrive. :)
+wermy Great news ! :)
+wermy how long is the part that is taking the longest
Given the amount that is saved with that new board, will a Pi 3 fit with all the bulky ports removed ?
implement graceful shutdown in your new build please
Looking forward to your new build! love your last series. Will you be implementing an analog stick with this one?
pleaaaase another gameboy zero with all the custom parts :D but if there is any custom part that someone is working now wait a little bit more :)
greeeeat work man!
it will be great a version with all the custom parts and where we could add a bigger battery :D
I can't wait to see the aftermarket build, I think with that last board and the screen protector then you have everything to make a professional looking handheld. Wish someone would make a Gameboy case that had the 4 buttons on the front, that'd be the bees knees.

Subbed! I'll be keeping an eye out for the upgraded tutorial videos. I would love to build one!!!
that helder board is awesome, any plans for an updated guide with the v2 board from helder
I've also seen a speaker expansion to go stereo, they are the things you stick in the bottom stereo out, usually for headphones.

Updated guide using helders 2.2 aio board please.
You need to suggest to helder etc to make these parts available online through either handheld legend or kirsch-bent. That way more people can get access to these
These boards are awesome! I need to go take a look at them soon. curious to see if anyone has made boards for a Gameboy Advance Pi?
Will you make a new tutorial building one Gameboy Zero with those custom parts?
+Guga Caldeira yep, working on it now. :)
Nice, I liked a lot the last PCB that you show, the black one that already contains the sound, and USB hub, I started a project just like you demonstrated before, however I burned the PCB, I mistake the cut and now is not working... How's it coming along? :D
+Brage Hult great! First part should be up tonight. :)
Awesome! I'll make sure to be ready ;D

Really looking forward to your fully custom build, not using any original GB parts, i want to go that same route.
I can't wait to build this
i can't find the all in one board with the usb function in it. All the ones i can find are sold out. Can any one help?
Thetacicali how was it?
Thetacicali do you bought anything extra for this kit
Thetacicali k thanks
Where is the link to that black helder's board ? the one you linked is completly different, think its an old broken version as it said there is issues with the audio on that one. When is the video coming out on the construction of the the all custom part GBzero?
I wish I would've known about that last board sooner.... omg mind blown
Then you should check out the forums! It's a great place, very active. You will see all the new products as soon as they come out.
This is very exciting! I watched all 6 parts of the original guide, but I am too amateur, so I am very excited to hear you're doing another guide with custom parts. I will definitely try to do it myself!

Hey are you able to do an updated version of these as it seems that some of the customs parts are no longer being done and i would like to do one myself.
Where can I get the schematics for the button wells and the screw brackets
Hi wermy loved the videos they are so helpful actually made this seem achievable. I'm planing to use a pi 3 with all aftermarket parts if you could use a pi3 for your next video that would be awesome
Awsome, i`ve finisched my gameboy zero, but how did u get the heat problem solved?
Where the link to the screen protector ?
Sorry about that! And I realized it was made by dominator as well, not solder: www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=384
+wermy thanks !
Can you do a video on Kite's GameBoy Zero kit or just the bord from the kit??
Is any of these PCB available as open source to make them yourself?
Werny I can't thank you enough for making such a great effort. I'm looking forward to your next series of videos on how to build Gameboy Zero using the custom parts. Question: given that we buy all these custom parts, do we still need a gameboy or a gameboy housing (just the plastic and the button) should suffice ?
do those kits work on orange pi bords if not can you do one for it
With all the custom parts and the use of an All-in-one board could a Raspberry Pi 3 fit?
Is it possible to make a dumping system for the physical cartridges for playback and saving?
+wermy i would REALLY like to know if you make them to order? i really want one but i wouldn't last 2 mins with the wiring. if you do make the to order how much for and postage to the UK?
when is the custom build comming out
So that last board is probably a good one to use for someone who is less familiar with doing all of this kind of stuff?
I really want to build one of these - I think it would be really neat to show to people and would be a sweet taste of nostalgia for me to play games on while still getting variety but I am relatively new to this whole world.
that all in one board is always out of stock. whats it take to get a big run of those printed out finally?
the All in one board you used in your Gameboy Zero video is gone. is there any other way I can acquire one?
they have some on ebay and there are other options on the forums
Hobbes thanks homie
Do you wire the cartridge reader to the RPI the same if you use the pre-made cart?
@wermy no link for the screen protector?
Sorry about that! And I realized it was made by dominator as well, not solder: www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=384
would it work with a gameboy color case too with the costem parts?
+wermy Would it be possible to set up something like a store on your site? Something that has all of the things people are making and selling in one spot so it's easier to find everything would be fantastic
are you going to make an analog stick in the new build and if u do maby u should do one like on the psp (the realy flat analog stick)
I've aquired an aio board from rgn but it's fucked by poor soldering. Any way I can get this fixed?
after watching your builds, i want to build a gameboy zero of my own. only thing is i prefer the original GBA and have a spare that stopped working. any parts i can use for that?
Any build tutorial on all these parts?
I'd be interested to see a build utilizing the Gameboy Advanced.
Any word on where to get those Helder all in one PCB? The forum isn't helpful.....
wow, i have discovered this kind of mods soon and your work is pretty damn amazing man. Surely I will try to build my own gameboy pi proyect but I am thinking on using the raspberry pi 3, but I dont know if I am going to be able to put all parts together inside of a gameboy.

I would love to buy a Game Boy Zero (Original GB Case Version). Any ideas where?
EBay i worn you its not cheap
where can i buy all thise partsto build a gameboy?
id like to ask you wermy which 3D printer are you using? i ordered some 3D part from you and its in pretty nice quality :)
Hello! great parts, specially for people like me (I'm not an engineer or anything). I wanted to ask, why do you mention arduino? I thought this could be done with RB pi.

does anyone know of any currently available all in one pcb's? Both Helder and Kitsh (i think that was the name) are back ordered or not available yet.

nice, please do a Gameboy zero with the all in on Bord, because i want build one too. 😍
The last board... How is it made? Those chips, did he designed the chips or it's programmable chips that he bought? It's unbelievable...
For some reason the links aren't working ? Are you located here in cali ?
Have you thought about doing a Game Boy Zero Pocket version?
@wermy you should make a 3D print file with all the holes, cut out
differently want to see how to make a game boy zero with the parts available on the forum
Thanks, this is awesome! Nice channel. Do you know of any resources for a gameboy advance build with a pi zero? :)
can you wire up a gameboy with the custom parts please
): is the all in one nfs anymore?
You should make a GBZero build with all the custom parts. plz!
Do you have something to GBA?
You didn't talked about my code for helder's board :( sad Oxodao is sad
Anyway great follow up video
Sorry, was not intentional. :( If it makes you feel any better, I didn't mention the code I contributed either. ;)
+wermy yeah just kidding don't worry that's fine, by the way could you try to merge it with mine for the analog thingy thing :)
So why doesn't someone take a Raspberry Pi Zero, reverse engineer it, and replicate the back board of the gameboy with the pi built in? can i buy all the parts and have you put it together. haha im lazy and do not have a steady hand
Hi, first of all great videos, they are usefull.
last, are you going to do a gameboy zero with the custom parts? specially with the last board, it looks like a killer for small spaces, something like a gameboy color zero? hahaha
Yep! Working on it now, should have the first part up in the next few days. Will be much shorter than the first set of videos. :)
damn, thats fast, thanks a lot
the hype train it's real
Total cost?
i need one with dual analog support
Go figure, this video comes out after I ordered half the parts I need. Oh well haha, but I'm sure one of the button pcb's will be on my order list next anyway.
Do they ship to Mexico?
Maybe I can build one with a regular Pi with all this saved space!
Might want to look into how much heat is produced. I remember reading that might be an issue.
Tyler Coleman Aw snap. Should I apply a bigger heat sink then?
I honestly have no idea. I thought I saw it in the forum somewhere but now I can't seem to find it.
Make one with the custom parts!
I would want to see two analog sticks on the newest one, like from a broken psp
So these new parts can make this project almost like a "plug n play"? That's pretty awesome if so.
I've built PCS before and this is something I'd love to try and build but Its just not my area lol
I really want one though :(
I don't suppose a raspberry pi 3 would fit in this kind of build?
pretty sure it might be possible but you have to get rid of parts on it, Sota did one with joysticks
Can u do a new gameboy please
If you sell assembled kit without rpi. I will surely buy. :)
Come on, where is the follow up video?
I fucking love your videos
1 board to rule them all
wish i was good at doing things like this
