We all have things happen to us. lol. We live crazy busy lives and we have to remember the bugs don’t have the agendas we have. I guess the good thing is you will have some nice fresh drawn come next year. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for sharing Bracken, I have had some issues with Wax moths as well, set some drawn frames away, and those little things got into them and pretty much destroyed the comb. I didn’t use the crystals or put them in a closed building. I haven’t had to much problems this year but last year was pretty bad for the wax moths, and pretty much everything else was too. I learned the hard way, lol. Still have to get some of those Crystals, where do you get them again? Can’t remember where to find them, lol. But have heard of using those to protect against wax moths. Thanks for sharing, and sorry to see those wax moths tear you comb. It happens to all of us. Have a great day Bracken 😁👍😎

Yeah it happens to all of us lol! I got them off Amazon! Just googled wax moth crystals and they came up! Good luck with your bees and thanks for dropping in!

I put my boxes of comb on furniture moving dollies and use moth crystals every 3 boxes then tape cracks. Moving dollies allow me to roll the frames out of the way.

That’s devastating sorry to see that! I literally pulled boxes off today and with Amazon prime had paramoth crystals delivered today. After watching this, I am definitely going to get those crystals in tomorrow…. Thanks for sharing your experience

I have been where you are at right now several yrs ago. What works for me is putting lids and foamies on the bottom of the stacks to make sure the bottom is sealed off, stacking boxes about 5 high, using a shim on top, then adding a paper plate with a cup or cup and a half of the crystals that you use on those plates. Then I use a foamie on top of that, put the lid over the foamie to make sure there’s a good seal, and then wrapping the boxes with plastic. Once you seal with plastic, the inside is its own environment with the smell of mothballs which will kill any moth and larve and discourage any from finding a way into the stack. Just don’t use styrofoam plates…ask me how I know…
In the spring, I unstack them to allow them to air out for a week and then use them. The wax moth hates light and airflow. And one last thing…ALWAYS assume that any frames you store have been exposed to wax moths and act accordingly.
Sorry for the long message brother!

I had the same thing happen last summer. Kept telling myself that I would get the frames taken care of and put away. The next thing I knew I had a garage full of moths and a total mess on my hands!

Thanks for showing us real life!! I’ve had moths in a dead out and it’s definitely maddening, but it’s nature’s way. I try to freeze every frame before I store it and I put brood frames in separate stacks from honey frames cuz I think the bugs go for the brood ones first.

Ugh. On a positive note the wax moths can clean up frames nicely. You can re-wax them and use if you want to go to the trouble. If not then burning is a good option. Sounds like you are trying to convert to new frames anyway.

I clean my frames and then scortch them with a torch to serilize them. I lost 1 hive to wax moths. Had 2 hives get robbed out, 1 small hive beetles got to and the other one was wax moths.

I’m probably over kill when it comes to trying to keep them little bastards out .. but I have para wax moth balls all over the place in my bee gear storage shipping container… and they still find a way to get in some times… but it warms my little hart when I see them belly up and dead
