Fun video. Beautiful country. “Label Putter Onner” lol. We all need one of those. Good stuff my friend and good luck in the almonds.
I love mine. Its a game changer. No more cords, inverters etc.
Nice comparison. Some commercial beekeepers say that the compact is faster in good weather but is a little bit slower once it's cold outside.
@@blackberry5908 yeah. They are both freakin nice to have! I don’t think anyone could go wrong with either one of them
Love how you show everything raw and honest. Looks so dry and cold. Nice mountains in the background- how far are they away from you in that last shot?
@@marywickenheiser2628 I’m on the mountain bench. So it’s only a few hundred yards away.

Summer, Fall, Winter. I get it now! Nice video. We are still in the 80s here and super dry. No significant rain since Helene.
@@brucesbees rain what’s that? Haha. Yeah the 3 seasons are in my picture! We hit 27 degrees the other night
What are those mite treatment tablets you were trying?
@@shanedavis5787 they are apitsblets. beewares.bigcartel.com/product/apitablet-10-pack-preorder-item
Hey Bracken…call them A-tabs. I bet they take the A-tabs done in a couple 3 weeks. If they don’t, leave it for them to finish in the spring. And yes, it’s ideal if you put a feeding shim on top so lids will seal up.
@@lomavistabeeco yeah that’s a good name lol. I like pucks I like hockey haha
@ they were first called urinal cakes because that’s what they looked like 😂. Oilers fan here! Haven’t seen the Utah team play yet
@lomavistabeeco did we just become best friends?? Because oilers are my favorite team!! I’m fallowing the Utah team also but im not jumping on the wagon just yet. I will like them for the sake of they are my home state but oilers will always be my #1!!
@ 👍🏻. Back in the day Coach Gulutzan ( Gully) played here in Fresno on an ECHL team. He’s been a head coach in the NHL for a couple of teams. He and his wife have been to my house for my oldest daughter’s birthday and we’ve hung out together after games here in CA. Both of his kids were born here
@ oh that is freakin cool!
I think Beekeepers have the best Offices. I Dropped the Apitablets on mine about a week ago just before this last rain storm we got, I'm mostly using them for an "All-In-One Vitamin Pack" for Fall. I have not checked if they have consumed them all or not yet, I'll check when I put on my Winter Feeding Shims. Thanks for sharing your time, Blessed Days...
Yeah we do have some good views!
Lol true, best offices!
@ indeed
Give us update. That place looks beautiful !
It is beautiful!
I watch a video of the Canadian Bee keeper and he said the compact vaporizer takes a little longer to recover than the one you have, especially in the cold weather, so it uses more battery power. Just a taught. I use the tablets also, i find some bees will eat them up and some will eat at them slowly. I did notice mite drop on the sticky boards when i put them in so i like them and they do provide food for the bees also , so i quess it's a win win. Thanks for sharing.👍👍👍
Thank you for the tip and sharing your experience!
Good stuff Bracken. Those first colonies were very nice. Will be interesting to see how those colonies up on the mountain do.
@@brucesbees yeah i don’t think they are gonna make it..

Too bad about the box!! Nice recovery!
@@JasonEganApiary haha it happens
During late October last year, I had a colony that was so infected with mites that it developed what I'm sure was parasitic mite syndrome. The cluster was so tiny I didn't expect it to make it through winter. I gave the colony OA vapor mite treatments three weeks in a row in October/November and continued one OA treatment every month through January, then one more in March. The colony survived and came out much healthier in the spring. But you have a much larger operation than I do so maybe this isn't a sensible option for you. - Darren
@@PennsylvaniaBeekeeper thank you for the tip and sharing your experience!
The queen is at 3:46 xD
@@blackberry5908 thank you!
I had 2 hives re-Queen themselves recently. 1 in late Sept and the other in the middle of Oct. I’ve seen the Sept Queen and she looks great and laying. I checked on the Oct queen yesterday and didn’t see her but did see eggs. 🤞🏻 it’s not a laying worker (only 1 egg in the cell and it was dead center in the bottom of the cell)
@@iantheghost that’s awesome! I think if they are late like this they will do pretty good in the spring I hope!

Great feeling to graft then watch them produce for you. Awesome
@@KajunHomestead it really is a cool experience
Great video showing real beekeeping. I just also had a pleasant surprise on a hive that I thought had no chance of successfully requeening itself in Michigan in September, but they did 🤞
@@marywickenheiser2628 yeah pretty awesome for sure! Good feeling!
You got me beat. I thought I was bad with 41 mites. This was up from seven prior to treatment with Apiguard. Don't know what happened, but I had more than one that there were more mites after treatment. Yet, there were others that the mites were completely knocked out. In the midst now of doing OA every 4 days for the next month. And snow is not far off here in N. Idaho.
@@duanevonbargen7516 what part of Idaho you in? Yeah these ones are bad lol. Not sure any amount of OAV is gonna save them
@@barkersbees I'm up in N. Idaho. Not too far from Sandpoint. I run 12-15 production hives and 3-5 (depending on the situation) resource(nuc) colonies.
@@duanevonbargen7516 heck yeah that’s awesome! Good for you! How did they do this year?
@@barkersbees For new colonies in 10 of my 12 I managed to pull off between 13 and 14 gallons. Next year should be better with wax in the frames. I hope anyway;
@@duanevonbargen7516 heck yeah that’s awesome!
Don't beat yourself up too badly!!! Most of us have been there and done that! If you think its bad now, wait another 40-50 years.
Thanks mate!
With those colonies that are “mite bombs” is there a way to save that colony? My thought process is that we should try to save all bees, but maybe the deadly viruses have spread and the colony is doomed regardless of treatment?
@@JasonEganApiary good question. So I will do absolutely everything I can to try and preserve them at this point is just a lot of dosages of OAV and some mite strips. But this time of year in Utah if they go into winter with that many they will die in the spring if they don’t die during the winter and if they make it to the spring and die then they will become a mite bomb and it will be bad for other bees. So it’s best if they are gonna die to die in the winter so the mites will freeze also. Obviously the goal is to save all the bees we can but realistically that’s not possible. It’s just like all other livestock. Sometimes you get a sick cow and it’s not worth her spreading the sickness to the other cattle so you put her down or isolate her (in this case can’t really isolate bees) but that’s just a little comparison. I think this colony is going to be doomed regardless of treatment.
@@barkersbees so much love and effort for these bugs in a box!! Keep us posted!
Also, I served my mission with James down in Venezuela, so I have felt like we have been best beekeeping buds for a while now! 😂 I’m in Lehi and looking forward to more Utah resources!! Thanks for all the information you are providing!

Yeah man that’s tough. I have been having some mite problems as well. I say hit them hard with OAV and see what happens. Thanks for sharing. This shows the importance of checking for mites. You done know what you are dealing with until you check.

Interesting. Our winter wheat is 3” tall now, rained just right to start it out in SE Michigan. I thought we’d be a lot farther behind in our season than yours. One of our best investments was a used seed tender (maybe after your house gets built 😉).
@@marywickenheiser2628 I miss read that at first and thought it said 3 feet lol. My first thought was well that won’t survive lol. Yeah we just got ours in and got a good .5” of rain so should come up nicely! Yeah a seed tender sounds nice!
That is so dang cool!
Yeah it’s pretty sweet!
is that two different driveways where you started planting the wheat field and do you have to irrigate seen the water ditches and green pipe sticking up out of the ground.
Yeas the first place I planted is my father in laws and yeah the neighbor has a driveway as well. Yes we have to irrigate and we flood irrigate
