  • Here's a really nice version of the French-Canadian classic "La Grande Gigue Simple" from the legendary Acadian New Brunswick fiddler André à Toto Savoie! André was a marvelous fiddler, but he was never commercially recorded in his prime. Thankfully field recordings from Robert Bouthillier and from the Archives at the University of Moncton recorded some of his brilliance. For this tune, he played it differently pretty much every round, though he was otherwise somewhat consistent in his fiddling. I tracked how many times he played each part every time around and then kind of drew up an "average" number of times to play these three parts, so this isn't the definitive version. His syncopation in the third part especially is really cool. Hope you all enjoy and I'll plan to do more André à Toto tunes if everyone's liking them!

I really like this version. Though I'm more familiar with the version by La bottine souriante. Well done!

Thanks! There are so many versions of this tune, all the way over to the Métis in Western Canada. It's a great classic, but this version I think is extra nice.!
