Former Judge Destroys Ballerina Over Poisoning, Domestic Abuse Claims Against Husband

- During the pre-evidentiary hearing for Ashley Benefield’s self-defense claim, the state played audio from a previous 2018 custody hearing between Ashley and her then husband Doug Benefield. In the audio, the judge slammed Ashley’s claims that Doug poisoned her and she was a battered wife, stating “there isn’t a scintilla of truth” to her claims. The judge ended up denying her request for an injunction against Doug - allowing him to see their daughter, who was a newborn at the time. Ashley Benefield was arrested two years after that hearing for second-degree murder - accused of killing Doug. Ashley and her defense team claim the deadly shooting was out of self-defense because Doug had attacked her.

@@Sidra_193It wasn’t the judge. When they ask the witness questions about the hearing they refer to the judge in the third person and ask the witness about the judge ruling on “your motions.” It sounds like this witness was Doug’s lawyer for the custody case

Any person who punches holes in the wall and also takes out a firearm and shoots into the ceiling has very questionable self control. This indicates a possibility of DV. Just because someone goes back to a man after DV incidents doesn't mean the DV didn't happen. DV is a very complicated issue for both parties. I haven't followed this case so I'm unaware of all the facts.
We also don't know if those things actually happened and if so, why. Is it possible that he was being attacked? Is it possible that he covered for her? I have no idea. I'm just saying that we don't know. He actions are not those of a fearful woman.
Maybe you should follow the case before starting on a premise which will bias your view about the evidence provided.
