Nice to see young Rock. Like with Harumi Ikoma as King, I'm glad Haruna Ikezawa is still voicing Athena. She's been Athena since KOF '98. However, I am disappointed we don't get to see the entire fights.
The scene between Terry and Rock (which is adorable as a kid) was excellent, I enjoyed it a lot! Also it represented the final reason that made Angelina change her mind and save Terry. It is hard to get past the fact that we did not see all the fights. This was a big disappointment and I really hope it will change in the future! All the characters deserve to be seen fighting, there is no excuse for that! Aside for that, I like that the tournament can surprise us, King`s team won and it is suggested that Atena and Sie beat Joe and Andy. I am sure this will change Andy`s temperamental behaviour for the better and will make Joe a bit more serious! So I am not mad at all about the outcome of the matches, on the contrary, BUT I wanted to see all the fights! From the little we saw I can say that the beginning of Atena`s fight was quite nice and the way Terry defeated Sie was well done.

Yes, I know that in the KoF timeline, the Kyokugen team isn’t among the protagonists and their endings are mostly comic relief material, but Ryo is still supposed to be one of the best fighters and develop a friendly rivalry with Terry. I appreciate the changes they made so far, like the retelling of the Fatal Fury story and so on, but this hurt a bit.
I am also sad about the fact that we did not see the AOF team fight in the tournament. The only thing that makes it better in this regard is that Ryo fought against Billy and Benimaru in episode 2 and that was a fight that made him justice.
Agreed, I really enjoyed that first fight as well. Seeing how both Billy fights turned out and how Kensou was able to hold his own against Terry, it seems they gave all fighters similar skill levels, which I like. Gives me a break from K’ and Ash taking out entire teams without breaking a sweat in the Chinese comics... xD
All things considered this is a solid (obviously not perfect) project! We have to understand that KOF has a huge number of characters and it is hard to present all of them in such short episodes. However I do hope that all of them will have their moment in one way or another, especially Robert. Also I hope we ll see Takuma in season 2. I also like the fact that their powers are not that far apart because it gives space for their growth. The Orochi saga was always my favorite, I was not to much in to NESTS, as for the Ash saga, it had an ok plot. I never read Chinese KOF comics
I've read a bit of the 2003, Maximum Impact, and SvC Chaos comics. One of the most one-sided fights for me had to be when Mai and Kasumi fought Hugo. Their attacks barely scratch him and he almost kills them both until Kyo steps in.
I liked how Rock tied into the story, and that Angie knocked over the glass in time. Fours rings at once is clever. Athena was cool. And Kensou gets hit during the startup frames, ha. Mai getting mad at Joe and Andy, then getting them to cheer was funny. Cool episode!
I'm ok with Ryo losing, but not this early on. Also, since he was facing the Female Fighters team (or in this case the Queens) it would have made more sense to have him fight Yuri. Missed opportunity for a dramatic fight right there.

In case you guys dont realize, in the context of KOF, Mai is actually close to being a Master-tier fighter. Her training is so much more advanced than Andy that most of the time she acts as a second teacher to him. If you compare Andy's level being close to but just a little behind Terry, Mai is actually a league above both of them. So taking on Ryu shouldnt be any trouble for her.

I would imagine how devastating a Haoh-sho-koken would be in that anime's logic. It became obvious to me that the females won't get hit by the males.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself... But I'm hoping, seriously hoping this series will either progress, or do well enough that we get another series that tries its best to stick to the source material and piece together missing ends...that would be great.

Well, all of them deserve a decent amount of time in the series and I think that Athena`s team will play it`s role in future episodes. Part of their motivation is, as Chin said, to improve their skills by fighting strong opponents.
Glad that, at the very least, they toned down Mai's obsession w/ Andy as opposed to the Fatal Fury OVAs & movie. It's much more fitting for her as an SNK flagship character (along w/ Terry, Kyo, & others) to be much less of an annoyance. Never liked them as a couple anyway. Quite refreshing to see her cheering Terry on instead.

Ryo, who defeated Young Geese lost to Mai Joe, who is a Muay thai champion lost to Athena Andy who trained at least 8 years Shiranui-ryuu and Koppouken from Hanzo Shiranui lost to somebody. And people take this as canon without discussing anything despite the people behind this doesn't seems to have cared about the skills of the characters 10:07 that was funny tho
It sucks that Ryo lost like a joke, but remember guys KOF timeline is not Art of Fighting's timeline (nor original Fatal Fury's for that matter), Ryo in KOF games itself was never treated like a legend, unlike in Fatal Fury and Buriki-One where he is legend and has become Mr. Karate II.
Bullshit they didn't change any of the events in KOF. Ryo still was the 1st champion and he beat Geese, KOF Destiny is just trashing on SNK's characters.
Ryo is a 2nd-tier character in KOF, along with the likes of Andy, Terry and Robert Mai is a bottom-dweller, plotwise. Top tiers in the story are Kyo, Iori, K', Chizuru, Kula and Ash.

Alfredo Saucedo AoF chars might be used as comic relief in KOF but Ryo remains one of the best fighters even in KOF. Mai won here bc she is more popular and I hate that. That's the kind of approach that gives u movies like Batman v Superman.
I wouldn’t have used the Maximum Impact intro to justify it... But yes, Ryo and Terry have a friendly rivalry in the KoF timeline. Also, KoF 94 and 95 made a fairly big deal out of the Kyukogen team. Let’s not forget the special ending/picture in KoF 97 & 98 for finishing the game with Kyo, Terry and Ryo. Sure this Ryo isn’t supposed to be as strong as his AoF and FF counterparts, but he still got an undeserved treatment.
Ryo is the main protagonist of AOF which is one of the major establishing franchises for SNK in their primary times.He is just as equivalent as Terry. AOF is something which introduced me to the world of SNK. Ryo is my all time most favourite character. that man Ryo is the first one who beat down Geese & Mr. karate. Hidden boss of Fatal Fury. He is the reason of KOF tournament legacy. All these two decades, tolerated all injustice which SNK did to Ryo, Design wise,spot light wise & Move set wise, just to make him less appealing option(even among his own franchise members) & harm his popularity. In kof they use the AOF team for joke but in this anime they did them dirty. We don’t even who is the third member. And the only part of the fight that we see is Rio getting is ass kick. At least his fight in episode 2 was cool.

It sucks that Ryo lost like a joke, but remember guys KOF timeline is not Art of Fighting's timeline (nor original Fatal Fury's for that matter), Ryo in KOF games itself was never treated like a legend, unlike in Fatal Fury and Buriki-One where he is legend and has become Mr. Karate II.
Bullshit they didn't change any of the events in KOF. Ryo still was the 1st champion and he beat Geese, KOF Destiny is just trashing on SNK's characters.
Ryo is a 2nd-tier character in KOF, along with the likes of Andy, Terry and Robert
Mai is a bottom-dweller, plotwise.
Top tiers in the story are Kyo, Iori, K', Chizuru, Kula and Ash.

Mai is one of the weakest characters in canon. Cant beat Kasumi, got beat by K' in 1 move etc. She's never been strong in canon she's a fanservice character.

Also, KoF 94 and 95 made a fairly big deal out of the Kyukogen team. Let’s not forget the special ending/picture in KoF 97 & 98 for finishing the game with Kyo, Terry and Ryo.

Ryo is the main protagonist of AOF which is one of the major establishing franchises for SNK in their primary times.He is just as equivalent as Terry.
AOF is something which introduced me to the world of SNK. Ryo is my all time most favourite character.

In kof they use the AOF team for joke but in this anime they did them dirty. We don’t even who is the third member. And the only part of the fight that we see is Rio getting is ass kick.
