    I’m doing container gardening and fixing to plant my watermelon seedlings. I’m unsure of the depth the container needs to be. My pots are not as big as yours. My question is, how many plants can your pots in this video sustain? Or how many plants did you plant in each large pot?
    I’m doing this with watermelon, cucumbers, squash and cantaloupe. My seedlings are almost big enough to pot and I’m unsure how many plants I can sustain/plant in each pot... I’m definitely going to follow along because after they start climbing my trellis, I want to know how to support the fruits.
    Thanks so much! 😃

    • @ChristasGarden

      I tried 2 watermelons in a pot last year and wasn't super happy with the results, I have had better luck when planting one watermelon plant in each pot. I would also go with one squash. I think you could plant 2 or 3 cucumbers in a large pot. One or two cantaloupes. There is a link up on the screen near the beginning of the video where you can see how I planted the watermelons. I measured the pots, that information can be found in linked video as well. I can't remember the measurements off the top of my head.

      Yes! I even have some cucumbers growing in a much smaller pot right now, I can't say for sure if they will produce well in a small pot but so far they are doing better than the ones I have planted in the ground. Cucumbers would definitely grow nicely in big pots like the ones my watermelons are in. They also do a pretty good job of climbing tomato cages with just a little bit of help, you don't even have to tie them up.

    • @ChristasGarden
      @ChristasGarden  4 года назад +1

      Watermelons planted in the ground are going to grow very long vines,10-20 feet long. The more space the roots have to grow the bigger the plant is going to get. In a pot, roots have a somewhat limited growing space. It might work with bush varieties though. I know there is a bush version of sugar baby and a bush version of jubilee, not to be confused with regular sugar baby and jubilee. I have never trellised my in ground watermelons but if I did I would give them a hefty trellis.

  • @joannwidenhouse9862

    I have a watermelon in a pot wondering how the trellis will hold a large one

    • @ChristasGarden
      @ChristasGarden  4 года назад +1

      Usually a watermelon grown in a pot isn't going to get quite as large as one that is planted in the ground. If one did start to grow really big, I would probably untie that one vine and let it grow out of the pot or let it sit in the pot right on the soil (without smashing the base of the plant). In my last video, I did say that this particular trellis is going to work best for compact varieties. I planted one larger variety in a pot this year, so I have been asking myself the same thing, lol. I have a video from last year on how to make a watermelon sling if you are interested ruclips.net/video/kM9_W0y9Ubs/видео.html
