    It's the walking in the rain for me that gets me off with this channel. Big ups to Pluviophiles. Favourite pluviophile cities in the world- Seattle WA, Portland OR, Vancouver BC, Edinburgh Scotland, Dublin Ireland and Bergen Norway. The rain won't disappoint you in these places.

    48:45 Downtown

    From 48:45 to the end there was a focusing issue that I didn't realize was happening until after I finished. The background will look pretty soft at sometimes which is unfortunate. Normally I would retake it but it hasn't rained like this for a month.

OREGON LEATHER is seen at about 15:45 - here I am, watching from Brazil and what a nice surprise to see one of my dear old customers. Exported shoe repair goods to them for many years. A big hello to the McPhersons at Oregon Leather, hope they will whatch your vid. What a small world! Cheers & keep walking, thank you so much for doing these.

    I left PDX some years ago after living in the Alphabet District for 10. Yep, loved walking around the neighborhoods on rainy days and cycling in drier conditions. Wetness keeps the craziness down, although the weirdness remains. The hipster invasion was already in full swing when I arrived, and a lot of the early Pearl redevelopment happened during my tenure. So sad to see that the economy is taken over by hipsters selling fancy food, fancy coffee, fashion, and holistic remedies to each other. P-town is a little too woke for me, lately. I'm well left of center, but I'd feel like an alien there, these days. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane, and for showing me that what I loved about the place when I lived there is fading away.

      The east coast hipsters and calis destroyed my Beloved HomeTown :(

    • @danieljulian4676
      @danieljulian4676 2 года назад

      @@DeWin157 It doesn't matter where they're from, Dean. You can only construct the value of "Portland native". The common denominator is how much money it takes. Many people can barely afford the rents because housing is not plentiful enough to serve all those who want to live there. Whose responsibility is it when supply does not meet demand? I don't know. To choose one or the other is arbitrary, unless political economy is assumed. The Proud Boys don't march in PDX simply because the hipsters bought up all the expensive real estate. Rightly or wrongly, the hipsters put their stamp on PDX because what they want is a place like the place they want to live. Self-reinforcing, or positive feedback, that's what we call it.

    • @DeWin157
      @DeWin157 2 года назад

      @@danieljulian4676 As I was saying, there was too much growth too fast over the past roughly 35 years. I have family that are in all areas of the housing construction field, and they have told me that it has been non stop since 1986. My Grandfather built a house in the late 60's in the outskirts between Hillsboro and Aloha, in a very small village called Orenco, the only things that were there at the time was a small park, a golf course, and a fire station, along with maybe a total of 20 houses spread out. Now, Orenco is a bustling HUGE suburb of Hillsboro proper, his street renamed from 231st, off Baseline Road, to Century Road, and around his street Hillsboro's Main Street name was extended to 214th Street, which that street itself was renamed to Cornelius Pass Road. That area has been hugely built up as well, what was once wooded area is now where an Albertson's is the flagship for a bustling strip mall.

    Portland in September 2020 was a tragedy. Note all the boarded up windows on the restaurants and shops - due to the 2020 protests/riots that were taking place. And that same month came the massive forest fires that blotted out the sun and gave us the worst air quality in the world for a few days. And yet - look how beautiful this city is, even at her lowest.
