Regardless of the level of technology, writing melodies like this is SO damn hard! This is a classically good tune, and it shows what you can do with so little, if you have the skill.
Sorry to correct you, but the SID is the sound chip to be found in the C64/C128. The Amiga's sound chip is usually called Paula, but no worse than the SID. I really like this tune.
Yup, that video (despite being wrong about some things, like the display resolution, which was up to 704 x 576 on PAL models, and color depth, which was up to 6 bit planes, i.e. 6 bpp for 4096 colors in HAM mode) explains the functions of the Paula chip, which was much more than just Audio. It also handled the UARTs and some other things. I've used and programmed the Amiga from 1986 to about 2001.
Wow, this brings me back the memories =) I started with Soundtracker as a kid like 15 years back (sounds like I'm talking about a drug.. well it really was addictive I can tell you that)! Wonder if I could find it anywhere nowadays..
FWIW, the Amiga has no sound chip at all. It has 4 digital/analog converters and 4 DMA (direct memory access) channels feeding them. :D So, it simply converts digital data directly into audio. This makes it possible to generate ANY sound. It was the first computer sold in significant volumes that had this. Sound cards and chips for the PC use similar technology, BTW.
Ridiculously tight, crunchy, groovy and swift. The breakdown at 1:58 really stands out. Found this via the chiptune mix at ruclips.net/video/7GIJ_gedGSo/видео.html which is quite good and includes an NES cover quite faithful to this version. Also original Amiga demo is at ruclips.net/video/4YPvi0A4wo8/видео.html
there's a volume and fx column in patterns. You can see there are C#3 B-2 etc. these are notes, and right behind it 2-digit hex is volume 00-FF, and the right next to it is 3-digit hex cell which is used for effects like fade-in/out, delay, arpeggio etc. etc. that's how.. it really isn't that hard.
BTW, actually, it's only 2 D/A converters, one for the left output and one for the right. But it's 4 DMA channels, one for each channel. They could be fed either manually word by word, or using DMA.
Wow! i remember making a few tracks on this, i was like 10 or something. i think it must have sparked an interest cause i got pretty serious into composing music. i use FL Studio now.. well, used to until i got a career... sigh, i want to be a kid again lol. Really well done tho mate. =)
I suggest you have a look at the Paula chip schematics if you can get a hold of the Amiga Hardware Reference Manual before you say I'm wrong. It's not a sound chip in the sense like the SID was a sound chip on the C-64.
@BikeNutt1970 Tune compatibility of the application. Run Deliplayer as Windows XP application. It works very well. By the way, this song reminded my happy childhood. Thank you very much...
p.s.: I just wanted to clarify that the Amiga didn't have a "magic sound chip" or anything like that. It was just a bit of DMA circuitry hooked up to D/A converters. What made the Amiga produce great sound was the software, like OctaMED or Aegis Sonix which were milestones in music software. They were so good that people like I who made music with them are unable to find comparable software on the PC, b/c software like that doesn't exist on the PC!!
@Liquadia1 Do you mean Samples (as in OctaMed, Protracker) are corrupt? AHX uses the Paula's ability to create sounds, there are no samples involved, that is why the noise you a referring to may be the snare? AHX is closer to the C64's SID. If that is not what you meant, i apologize. ;-) I heard no significant white noise.
I remember that time when she ate magic mushrooms at the highschool party and thought she was in the bathroom talking trash but was actually pooping in the hallway talking to the lockers.caught on video ..
5 out of 5!! AWESOME! Thank you! Brought good memories! ^^ anyway... How can you play the *.lha files? Or r they compressed? Or what? How to play these great songs? :)
makes me wanna get my amiga from the basement but then again cant remember any of the commands and shit.. :/ would be fun to see whats on the HD. Old swapper mail and such :)
There's no wrong doing that. For the love of it all computers tried to mimick the SID chip: Atari ST, Atari XL / XE, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Heck even SID was emulated on ADLIB cards back then.
Not mad on the 8Bit arp, but apart from that, this is a real sick track, not mad on the drums tho, i know its old and no where near as suffocated as today's technology, but it has some really nice elements to it.
There's one wrong part. POKEY never tried to sound like SID. SID is based on some knowledge taken from POKEY. So SID sounds like POKEY ... like an upgrated POKEY. The real "upgrated" POKEY made it to the Amiga, where it's named "PAULA" ;)
sony and microsoft should invest in the amiga audio chip for their next consoles.... would love to have the option to have some sweet tunes like this being made, fuck the music games have now lol
i used to use digibooster pro in 32 channels sound on my amiga, hated chip music like this bllllaahhh :( btw check out my modules on aminet, search lunatic recordings
p.p.s.: Check out a tune of mine that I made with Aegis Sonix in 1986 on an A-1000: RUclips Video ID: v=kH-QyBSpjjw -- it's really sad that such an easy to use music software was never made again.

This tune gives me chills and and rounds a tear in my eye.Great track.

So many memories...I used to have this mod in my playlist, and played it almost everyday.
Thanks for this great piece of art!
Wow, this brings me back the memories =)
I started with Soundtracker as a kid like 15 years back (sounds like I'm talking about a drug.. well it really was addictive I can tell you that)!

Wow!
i miss my AMIGA - MUSIC and DEMO- making Time, but iam happy if i see, hear and feel this great sound !!
Jazzcat rulez! Po prostu piękne!
@knaagi its collecting dust under my tv :) was fun reading old letters and running protracker/dir.opus and such :)

This is precision trance from Amiga Equipment. I very like it. You have a talent.
Actually it's sample based synthesis, P.A.U.L.A. can change the speed and interrupts of samples in it's 4 hardware panned channels.

This Is BRILLIANT!
Jazzcat zawsze wymiatał :):) pozdrowienia... Qba/Nah-Kolor.. Amiga 4ever!!!!!!!!!!
w opisie sampla "by Pic Saint Loup". To nie był Scorpik przypadkiem?
rakastan Amiga musiikkia erittäin paljon.

Great work, very sentimental -from sense of music, AHX & Amiga power
On the ZX Spectrum 128 of course ;)

PAULA is primarily a DAC "wikipedia>>>wiki/Digital-to-analog_converter"
sounds amazing
This is so addicting. I might end up remixing this.
@speewave Paula chip can do am/fm synth but it was poorly documented if at all. Almost 26 year old "maybe".
Mine was upgraded to ONE WHOLE MEGABYTE! so stick that up ya power PC! LOL!
OOOH THAT SOUND! Gotta love trackers!
@BikeNutt1970 Tune compatibility of the application. Run Deliplayer as Windows XP application. It works very well. By the way, this song reminded my happy childhood. Thank you very much...
this is soooo cool !!!
All that on Amiga?! I 'm trying to learn Schism Tracker (Impulse Tracker free and ongoing reimplementation) but I've always felt I wanted Amiga. ^_^
That's what I call chip tune! Jazzcat rules! :) Great artwork!
Great track!
masterpieceA!

Jazzcat potęga :) pięknie się tego słucha :)
Amiga trackers, good ol’ dayz

AMAZING
Very Cool song!
Muhteşem!
Great Job!
love the 4ch.. takes me back ;)
Magnifique!
I remember that time when she ate magic mushrooms at the highschool party and thought she was in the bathroom talking trash but was actually pooping in the hallway talking to the lockers.caught on video ..
Retro Hardware On the Game Station brought me here!
5 out of 5
AWESOME DUDE!
We want more! :D
@swampyajc the reason is simple - for modern gamers there's no nostalgic value and they would consider such music low quality
NICE MUSIC! ♥ AMIGA ♥
Amazing. been looking for something like this for years!!!!! Is it as complicated as it looks?
very nice!
thats amazing
5 out of 5!!
AWESOME! Thank you!
Brought good memories! ^^
anyway...
How can you play the *.lha files?
Or r they compressed? Or what?
How to play these great songs?
:)
fantastic
1:57 is from the clip that Retro Hardware put on
makes me wanna get my amiga from the basement but then again cant remember any of the commands and shit.. :/ would be fun to see
whats on the HD. Old swapper mail and such :)
Unbelievable!
AMIGA 4 EVER!
Fuck yeah.
could you tell me if it's possible to sync a commodore with a roland drummachine (tr 606)
You made this song? Very good
Appendix!
There's no wrong doing that. For the love of it all computers tried to mimick the SID chip: Atari ST, Atari XL / XE, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Heck even SID was emulated on ADLIB cards back then.
EPIC!
Shall I compose on an Amiga or a C64 ? I am a noob at this.
@hankillo1 I second that statement, Amiga Forever!
My tombstone will be made out of A500.
that is very good
Channel panning is weirdly distributed.
that's not weird at all but a property of amiga's sound chip named "paula", which features two hard panned channels on both, left and right side.
Memories... Sigh...
this now is synthwave, do you know?
Not mad on the 8Bit arp, but apart from that, this is a real sick track, not mad on the drums tho, i know its old and no where near as suffocated as today's technology, but it has some really nice elements to it.
Dj Rob Tech without the drums, or 8bit arp, and replacing it with something better, then i will give it 8.7/10
I don't know if that's still revelant (since your post post is one month old) but "Jesus on E's" starts with "The Exorcist Theme" :)
There's one wrong part. POKEY never tried to sound like SID. SID is based on some knowledge taken from POKEY. So SID sounds like POKEY ... like an upgrated POKEY. The real "upgrated" POKEY made it to the Amiga, where it's named "PAULA" ;)
this song is so awesome my pc wished it was a fucking amiga
@swampyajc Developers, developers, developers... *sigh*
sony and microsoft should invest in the amiga audio chip for their next consoles.... would love to have the option to have some sweet tunes like this being made, fuck the music games have now lol
@joshgura manual input :)
is creative comons??
HOLY SHIT....
sound fucking great !!!
its my one of favourite intro music !
Its name is "Electricity" please fix it.
good sound :)
Likewise! :)
i used to use digibooster pro in 32 channels sound on my amiga, hated chip music like this bllllaahhh :( btw check out my modules on aminet, search lunatic recordings
Good old 4Chan-Modules
Neat!
Stereo SID version by Flex, out now:
ruclips.net/video/JRZWyZPojC8/видео.html
Are you doing this through emulation, or is this true Amiga power we're seeing and hearing?
fucking brilliant!
a 606 isn't midi, it only has DIN sync
I go check for moar .___.
Any emulators on mac? Anybody?
Yep, e-uae
god bless u
2:05 onwards i like
Jeez...what is going on?
p.p.s.: Check out a tune of mine that I made with Aegis Sonix in 1986 on an A-1000: RUclips Video ID: v=kH-QyBSpjjw -- it's really sad that such an easy to use music software was never made again.
@KingamongmenIIV I think I should write it to you, not to BikeNutt1970. Run Deliplayer as Windows XP application.
ZOMG SAME HERE
I found the '80s!
Well, early 2000s really. But then again, for Amiga the 80s never ended :D
lol... simulating SID chip to get some sence to that low res sampling... fail
