Thank you for the video! I will be sure to put mine on correctly. Thanks to you. I have an oil leak from my timing cover (traced the leak with dye) on my lt1. Right now, i have the opti, water pump, crank hub, oil pan, and more all torn off - fun stuff!
Thank you for posting vid.. I changed timing chain , when i put all back together could not get to start. i tried all the holes on the opti spark turned out to be the odd looking hole and it started. found it difficult to get the pin to line up with the hole . I thought I may have miss timed the timing chain.. big lesson i learned again is get motor started as soon as you can. I installed water pump but thankfully didn't ad coolant
Thanks for taking the time to warn of us of this problem. I'm going to install the seals and opti in a few days. I did this once before in one of my first C4s around 20 years ago. Bought a GM opti, in '96 it was $800. Got it in and the car ran worse. The opti was bad. At least the 2nd time it was lot easer. This was in the days before RUclips so you were pretty much on your own. I think it took a half a day to just get the crankshaft pulley off the first time. Oh, the reason I did it myself was the Chevy dealership said the new opti and labor would be $1,800. I was thinking, how hard could it be?
No problem and I had to do mine 3 times I bought 2 optis from oriellys and the first one was locked up when I got it and the second one the cars computer didn't like the sensor inside so it ran like garbage and was misfiring the third time I went with one from petris enterprises and it's been fine ever since
@dylekpolski7355 sounds like mine lol my car is christine you fix one thing and another breaks I went to put my seals in while doing the opti and didn't really until last month my timing cover has a Crack in it I thought it was just the seal leaking
when i installed mine i made sure it was all lined up and it went on without a fight thinking it was all set. go to start the car up and she just sputters as if the timing is off. is it possible my opti is bad or possibly installed wrong even tho it was lined up?
The timing is most likely off even with my one from oriellys being bad the car still started but didn't run good a good way to tell if it is off is if it pops after u stop cranking it's definitely the timing
Thank you for clearing things up, other videos didn’t really mention that.
