Love your idea for Thrashers weapon. Great video! It's gotta be tough choosing the last ones. I might bump gnawgahyde up one or two but other than that I like your choices
For me the original three and Monkeywrench are what I think of when I think Dreadnoks. Those look like four guys who could realistically wander into some dodgy bar in small desert town and give everyone a REALLY bad day. After that they leaned more into the Mad Max look with the armour and crazy neon punks with the bright colours which was cool but less realistic. Zarana was hot though obviously.
Informative and fun! My favorite is Ripper. Everyone loved Buzzer when I was a kid, Ripper had the cool bayonet on a GI Joe laser rifle. Come on man! Great video!
Great video! The other quintessential element to being a Dreadnok I always felt when I was growing up--aside from being a biker and being destructive--was blue jeans. So my favorites (aside from Zartan), were the original three and then Monkeywrench. If I had to rank them: 1. Zartan * 2. Buzzer 3. Torch 4. Ripper 5. Monkeywrench 6. Zarana 7. Thrasher 8. Roadpig 9. Zanzibar 10. Gnawgahyde 11. Zandar I can only rank the 'Noks from the original '82-93 line. I barely know any of the later characters, although I have read some good comics with Zanya so she might be close to my Top 10.
If you make the scene when the Dredknox fed Serpentor frozen pizza and grape soda and chocolate covered donuts and Serpentor loved it. That would be a cool diorama. Set in a garage.
If you look at Zartan's list of accomplishments in the comic: killed the Hard Master, killed Serpentor with an arrow, beat the Blind Master to death--he is pretty much the baddest of all
This was fun to watch. I'm a He-Man guy, not a GI Joe guy, so I'm not sure what made me click. People talking about fun topics they're passionate about is just interesting, I guess.
In DC comics there was a mid-level team of villains called the Demolition Team and they all had weapons that were construction equipment based. Their leader is named Rosie and brandished a rapid-fire hot rivet gun. Scoopshovel a former professional jai-alai player from San Diego. His hydraulic power-arm allowed him to dig up almost anything. Steamroller former motorcycle stunt rider from Chicago. He rode a compact version of a steamroller that could flatten buildings. Jackhammer carried a larger, more powerful version of a jackhammer capable of untold destruction. Hardhat - A former heavyweight boxing palooka from New York City. His powered helmet and harness made him into a human juggernaut. My point is I think with some of these characters weapons that with some of these newer Dreadnoks it could have worked like with that girl heart wrencher I agree completely that some of these weapons and characters really stunk. But they were given some of this stuff from the DT I can see it working for some of these characters. But those relatives those brothers those two sets of triplets I'm sorry but that was just lazy. Hell, they look like a clan of brothers or cousins or somebody's family whose parents or brother and sister and they bombed out of Cobra. it was almost like Cobra Commander looks at these guys and says 'Nope these guys are too stupid for even us.'
Buzzer is kinda like Johnny Utah from point break! (or Brian Conner-Fast and furious..kinda the same show!) loved the video, I didn't know much about the dreadnoks!
Fully agree with this ranking. I seem to remember a Masher from the original comics. Edit: I just remembered that Masher was the name of a Dreadnok vehicle.
I love that you said 'Welsh'! I live in Swansea (Wales) and used to be a Harley Davidson mechanic for years, we certainly have a lot of Hells Angels here who are constantly fighting the Outlaws here. TBH I can't be bothered to keep up with who's ruling which area ATM lol. We have special police task forces that follow them around and raid pubs for no particular reason other than as a show of strength, hmm.. seems almost as if they're the antisocial trouble makers... ;-)
Thanks for showing Heartwrencher. I think she rumored to possibly released as a Classifed Series. I first saw her as a cosplay.girl, shes a fun obscure character with a cool name that I think they should bring back.
Monkeywrench is one my favorite figures. Great design. He gets "bulked up" in form compared to the 1984 Dreadnoks with the added neck articulation and yet he visually fits in with the "original" 3 in style really well. Unlike most of 1986 figures with the slightly up-sized heads, Monkeywrench stays in size with the 1985 figures. Gnawgahyde, Thrasher, and Road Pig round out the remainder of my little collection right now. Great figures.
That's a pretty good tier list. Zandar will always be my favourite but your argument is 100% valid. I think KAOS, Burnout and Storm Rider are the best of the rest. Edit: I would argue Thrasher to be a spot or two higher also. His aesthetic and story are both congruent in their fit and uniqueness.
Hahaha. Grape soda and donuts. I remember that. As a kid, my bus stop was at a mom & pop convenience store. I would get grape soda and mini donuts all the time. Yes, I was young enough that I wanted to be a Dreadnok when I grew up 🤣🤣
It always seemed like they were going for a Mad Max aesthetic with the Drednoks. Zartan was always amazing in the comics and cartoons. His figure was real goofy though. I'd rank them: Torch, Zanzibar, Monkeywrench, Road Pig, Ripper, Buzzer, Gnawgahyde, Thrasher, Zarana, Zandar. The twins just were not fleshed out well, too goofy looking, and took away from the mystique of Zartan. The original trio made me think of the Three Stooges! Also, Zanzibar was the Dreadnok that had a penchant for chocolate donuts and brushing his teeth with grape soda.
Love the list and jus subed...I think that Storm Rider would be higher on my list. He looks so cool and that bike rocks. Will be looking for that fig, thank you.
Nice list, just not sure if your criteria is consistent with the signature weapons and destruction weighing so heavily on the Dreadnock ranking. Zartan, Zarana and Zandar are less weapon and destruction focus, with Zartan and Zarana being major members. Zarana or Zanya would be in charge over Buzzer.
Buzzer was my favorite as a kid when they came out. Mirrored sunglasses, blonde ponytail all things I thought were cool in the early to mid 80's. Still do! 🤣
You’re from RI? I grew up in South Kingstown. When you grow up in the 80s with The Road Warrior on TBS or WPIX every weekend you’re going to love the Dreadnoks!
Ready for this video. The Dreadnoks were awesome!! I feel like I could name them all before the video starts. I used to wrestle my Joes/Cobra bc at the time they had better movement than the Pro-Wrestling action figures of the day. I wish I used the Dreadnoks as Anti-heroes who fought both Joes & Cobra.
@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal law and order his dog lived longer than. He did.. je was mostly a hostage with chuckles and died.. there was the viper with sting ray.. snakes eye got wolf mutt and junk yard nawgawhyde the bird zartan rip off. Dusty I think got a pet eventually. I heard big boa has a kangaroo in a cartoon.
If I was given control of the GI Joe brand, instead of trying to reboot the series with the ninjas I'd use the Dreadnoks in an adult oriented but still kid friendly cartoon mini series. I'd have the three siblings pull a heist on an MARS industries arms shipment traveling through the swamps of Louisiana specifically Fer De Lance Louisiana. They run across a game warden from Thibedeaux La ,who has a brother in the military, who is investigating gator poacher with the help of a couple of young Cajun boys from the Lafitte Family. The game warden takes a bullet protecting the Lafitte boys but manages to take Zartan into custody before succumbing to his injuries. Zartan is sent to a new high tech federal prison and Zandar and Zarana go undercover in the prison to break him out. The Dreadnoks would be part of a prison gang they recuit to help in the escape. I'd throw in Mercer, Taurus, and Red Zone into the prison as well as maybe a Detriot gang leader from Stalker's old street gang I'd make the prison coed and dress all the prisoner characters in scrubs with maybe a size variant and different arms like a bare arms and an arms with a shirt underneath and an arms with sleaves of scrubs razored off. The bodies would be fairly similar across the board with minimum tooling to vary the characters up a bit in the toy line. This would make it easy to crank out the 24 figures that come in a toy case. I would have one figure for the Warden and a Prison Guard and the Warden's Female Assistant I'd have three female prisoners with head sculpts that could pass for the Misftis from Jem and the Holograms and have the Warden's assistant be able to pass as one of the good girls from Jem. The series would end with a major prison riot that is used to cover Zartan and a bunch of other key villains to escape mostly Dreadnoks. Mercer, Taurus, Red Dog and the Detriot gang member can see that the riot is out of control and give up their chance to escape to quell the riot. All the scubs bodies could be reused for a new medical inspired toy line I'd mostly aim at girls probably a veterinarian type of line with the Prison Guard figures reused for Park Ranger figures and a receptionist figure that could be another one of the good girls from Jem. Scrubs type figures would be popular with customizers who wanted to make their own figures from: Grey's Anatomy, ER, St. Elswhere, General Hospital, Scrubs, MASH. Next up for Joe I'd do a Dreadnoks biker series like a kiddy version of Sons of Anarchy where they smuggle MARS weaponry and go up against Chuckles and his Partner Morris taking orders from a pregnant (but not showing yet) Intellegance officer whose married name is Sneeden who comes from a long military tradition in her family of MPs. Sneeden could be another one of the good girls from Jem Throw in a biker chicks whose bodies could be the misfits. The series ends with Chuckles and Morris taking down a major terrorist groups funding arm Morris gets shot up in the process but survives and earns the new nickname "Bulletproof" For the customizers you do a Destro ancestor Midieval series with scruffy bearded guys with heads you can swap out with your Dreadnoks bodies to create a larger biker gang. Next you do The DEF in the Jungle.
Man I got to give you the real top 10 Dreadnoks line up. 1. Ripper: Always my team leader behind Zartan. And Zarana's homie lover friend. 2. Burnout: Dreadnok infiltrator master of disguise assassin that rides a custom 2 wheel killing machine . 3. Thrasher: Thrasher the Thunder Machine Nuff said. 4. Buzzer: 5. Monkeywrench: 6. Torch: 7. Zanzibar: 8. Gnowgahyde: 9. Road Pig: 10. Heart Wrencher: Yep. A pretty Goth Girl biker...God I got to have it. 11. Zarana: 12: Zandar: Great video Destro IMSA this was fun man.
I’d love to see a comparison of these along with the other mad max style toys- I know Tonka had a series , I also had some generic wal mart gi Joe figure that had a Mohawk
I remember when I found Gi Joe and Transformers figures in a toy store in my country in 1983, I had never seen any cartoons or TV commercials of these toys but was love at first sight, that day I bought more than twenty figures (the first ones Zarana, Zandar, Torch, Buzzer and Ripper) with the M.O.B.A.T and the A.W.E. Striker and Crankcase as vehicles, how ignorant I was, I leave Snake Eyes V2 and Timber on the shelves, simply the worst decision of my life, I have never bought the figure until this day!!
Larry Hama made Zarana basically the Dreadnok leader and also made her the most dangerous badass character. Note that in the non-toy profiles he wrote he refers to her as an "Assassin!" Given how Hama basically made the Baroness and Zarana arguably the toughest, smartest, most dangerous villains around, he'd probably be dismissed as "woke" if those two characters got introduced today.
Ha, Yeah. GI Joe was woke before woke as woke. There's a scene in Pyramid of Darkness (I think) where an old admiral is scoffing at Lady Jaye because he doesn 't think women can be good soldiers, and Flint tells him off. Also, it is pretty much the most diverse IP ever, and it has been since day one. However, I think a lot of the folks that normally complain about woke shit migth give it a rest with GI JOe because it wouldn't feel shoe-horned in, since it was always the way. A few of em definitely would though.
Another good list! This reminds me of how much I missed by not collecting the comics! So many Drednoks I was unaware of! I would put Zarana a little higher thanks to the comics (her romance with Mainframe in the cartoon series was just weird IMO) Only one other note:Based on your criteria, Monkeywrench is appropriately rated, but the 2005 DTC action figure of Monkeywrench is absolutely magnificent! - sleeveless trenchcoat, a pair of SPAS 12 shotguns, and a torn t-shirt that reads "Dreadnok for life". It's so great that I had to put him in my top three.
If I remember correctly, Zarana was promoted to the top ranks of Cobra, at least for a while in the comic. On par with the Baroness. I think it was while Destro was leading Cobra, ironically 🤔😆
@@michaeljfoley1Yes, it got to the point in the comic where Serpentor was dead, Mindbender was dead (temporarily) and most of Cobra's "high command" characters had left the group. Zarana became much higher ranked without Destro, Baroness, Zartan, Firefly, etc. out of Cobra.
I say the same thing about Gnawgahide and Zanzabar on my show, but Zandar more than fits in this group, Dreadnocks DONT to stealth lol Theyre demolistionists! I customized my Classified Buzzer's chainsaw into the proper rifle with chainsaw tip he originally came with, the gas can was to fuel the buzzer/chainsaw-gun)
Couple of thoughts 1) Zandar is trash, he sucks, no way should he be ranked above Thrasher. NO WAY. 2) Zartan IS the best Cobra, hands down, he's the deadliest, and the most bad-ass, second most bad ass in the Joe-verse. 3) I agree Zarana was a good character, but her action figure was one of the worst looking figures, easily the weirdest looking female character in ARAH. top ten, fine, but her figure was so bad, I have to dock points. 4) I used to deploy Crystal Ball is a Dreadnok, I felt like he fit in with them. He was like a ruthless, sadistic, twisted, mind-f'n sociopath.
I see your points. Yeah, Zarana's face is weird on the figure, but the package art-she is hot as hell. I think Crystal Ball consults the Dreadnoks in one of the later comic lines.

That actually makes more sense, because the only ones that look like Road Warrior characters are Road Pig and Thrasher, which were later in the line

Agreed. They all look like they are in the same gang.
Interesting video but i was waiting for the "cold slither" dreadnought theme 👍
Informative and fun! My favorite is Ripper. Everyone loved Buzzer when I was a kid, Ripper had the cool bayonet on a GI Joe laser rifle. Come on man! Great video!
Yeah, I can see that. Ripper did have the best weapons. And he rocked the half-shirt. He had the most 80's look
Great video! The other quintessential element to being a Dreadnok I always felt when I was growing up--aside from being a biker and being destructive--was blue jeans. So my favorites (aside from Zartan), were the original three and then Monkeywrench. If I had to rank them:
1. Zartan *
2. Buzzer
3. Torch
4. Ripper
5. Monkeywrench
6. Zarana
7. Thrasher
8. Roadpig
9. Zanzibar
10. Gnawgahyde
11. Zandar
I can only rank the 'Noks from the original '82-93 line. I barely know any of the later characters, although I have read some good comics with Zanya so she might be close to my Top 10.
Thanks. Yeah, the newer ones are new to me, and mostly suck except Zanya and Storm Rider
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal Hey, if a nail gun worked as a lethal weapon for James Bond in Casino Royale, it works for a Dreadnok.
If you make the scene when the Dredknox fed Serpentor frozen pizza and grape soda and chocolate covered donuts and Serpentor loved it. That would be a cool diorama. Set in a garage.
That would be awesome. Somebody needs to make six inch scale grape soda bottles and chocolate donuts so we can make this happen
I hope we get a full line of Dreadnoks for the Classified line
Zartan is the most dangerous man affiliated with Cobra, and the Drednoks are his crew, I always figured he insisted on them being hired as well.
If you look at Zartan's list of accomplishments in the comic: killed the Hard Master, killed Serpentor with an arrow, beat the Blind Master to death--he is pretty much the baddest of all
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal killed Serpentor from a couple hundred yards away on a moving vehicle
This was fun to watch. I'm a He-Man guy, not a GI Joe guy, so I'm not sure what made me click. People talking about fun topics they're passionate about is just interesting, I guess.
Thanks!
Yeah, a lot of this seems like someone spent fifteen minutes coming up with a character and thought that was good enough
I never got into the Dredknocks, but would love to get into Zaranna 😂😂😂
Yes, she is legit hot. And as she is crazy, probably not bad in the sack
🤣😂🤣😂🤣It's Princess Ariel from Thundarr for me.
@ljpanther23 I'll give her my Sword of Thundar
🤣😂🤣@@danielherrin The Sun Sword what a perfect gift 😂🤣😂
Love your channel, you're a dude I'd definitely chill witn and have a drink with.
Thanks. Maybe at a GI Joe convention?
I enjoy your descriptions along with whatever lore thereay be. Hope your channel takes off
Thanks!
deep cuts great video.
Appreciate that
25:40 - Cold Slither!!!
This was great...I thought I knew about the Dreadnoks but was wrong after this video. Go Joe...😊
Thanks! Yeah there's a lot of mid-tier Dreadnoks I didn't know about until I researched for the video
I always felt the Dreadnoks were Cajun.
With the whole Bayou type vehicle themes and all…
They started out in the Florida Everglades, then moved to New Jersey, so that might be what gives them the Cajun feel
Yeah you really went deep. I really can’t disagree with your list. 👍
Buzzer is kinda like Johnny Utah from point break! (or Brian Conner-Fast and furious..kinda the same show!)
loved the video, I didn't know much about the dreadnoks!
Oh yeah, I would love to see Point Break done with a Buzzer & Zartan bromance
Fully agree with this ranking.
I seem to remember a Masher from the original comics.
Edit: I just remembered that Masher was the name of a Dreadnok vehicle.

I love Zarana. She's the type of person that when a paper instructs her to not write on this side, she'd write"F**k you, luv!".
Yup. She's hot.
maybe the sets of brothers are just simply the alabama chapter dreadnoks! Awesome video, buzzer is my favorite.
Just subscribed cause I really want to see more of this style of videos!
Will do!
I had a bunch of this Joe stuff. When Zarana and Zandar came out it introduced those fluorescent colors
They look good in pink though. Works with the punk/road warrior aesthetic. Later it just gets colorful for stupid sake
Zarana is my number 1 but I loved the video. Good list!❤
Good choice! And Thanks!
Weren't there 2 different versions of the Zarana figure?
Love your list man, I completely agree with your choices. 😮
Hey, thanks!
We have special police task forces that follow them around and raid pubs for no particular reason other than as a show of strength, hmm.. seems almost as if they're the antisocial trouble makers... ;-)
First video I have seen from your channel, love it!
Thanks!
Zandar Zarana and monkeywrench were my 3 favorites
Love Zarana and would love to see more lore expanded with Heartwrencher.
How could I forget about Zanzibar?!? *16:30*
He's a Dreadnok action figure I remember and owned.
Thrasher gets points for coming with the Thunder Machine. I love that thing
Hahaha. Grape soda and donuts. I remember that. As a kid, my bus stop was at a mom & pop convenience store. I would get grape soda and mini donuts all the time. Yes, I was young enough that I wanted to be a Dreadnok when I grew up 🤣🤣
That is a pretty gross flavor profile
I always put croc master in with my dreadnoks he just seems to fit in with them
Yeah, anything Florida fits in nicely with Dreadnoks and nothing says Florida like a Crocodile. Copperhead too.
At minimum he'd be a neighbor
@@crypticjim or a cobra ambassador to oversee operations
@@handof8182 they would be the type to need a little supervision
@@crypticjim they would lol
Yes, Ron Rudat said his inspiration for the design was the Mad Max series
Love the list and jus subed...I think that Storm Rider would be higher on my list. He looks so cool and that bike rocks. Will be looking for that fig, thank you.
Yeah, that bike is pretty great. A lot of the Pursuit of Cobra stuff is really good
My fav subgroup
Me too.
Remember seeing those box sets , I now regret not buying them back then .
Oh yeah? Nice. Yeah, I lived in North Kingstown for a while in the early 2000s
Was always a fan as The Drednoks. Thanks for the video
Glad you enjoyed it
Ready for this video.
The ones I remember:
Zartan, Buzzer, Ripper, Torch, Monkey Wrench, Road Pig, Thrasher, Zandar, Gnawgahide, & Zarana.
Yeah, nobody remembers the others. (other than Zanzibar) they are all either from the later comics, or obscure versions of the toy line
this was an awesome video!!! thank you!
The Dreadnok’s are my absolute favorite! I have made many customs to swell the ranks of the Noks!
I would love to see a movie that was just about the dreadnoks
A great list would be all the joes and cobras that came with pets.. from croc master to law and order.. pets sold toys some times
great idea!
Cool toys collection ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
My favorite faction. My favorite Dreadnok is Monkey Wrench
Monkeywrench is great. I'm excited to see what kind of explosives a Classified Monkeywrench might come with
I completely agree. I’d be fine if they made him one of their deluxe figures with accessories and explosion effects like Scrap-Iron has.
Merci c est fabuleux de revoir les jouets de son enfance … force à toi
vous êtes les bienvenus
The series ends with Chuckles and Morris taking down a major terrorist groups funding arm Morris gets shot up in the process but survives and earns the new nickname "Bulletproof"
For the customizers you do a Destro ancestor Midieval series with scruffy bearded guys with heads you can swap out with your Dreadnoks bodies to create a larger biker gang.
4. Buzzer:
5. Monkeywrench:
6. Torch:
7. Zanzibar:
8. Gnowgahyde:
9. Road Pig:
10. Heart Wrencher: Yep. A pretty Goth Girl biker...God I got to have it.
11. Zarana:
12: Zandar:
Great video Destro IMSA this was fun man.
Nice list
When you said “Spinal Tap,” I thought, “are we the same age?!”
Great episode brother
Thanks!
I’d love to see a comparison of these along with the other mad max style toys- I know Tonka had a series , I also had some generic wal mart gi Joe figure that had a Mohawk
Biker club from G.I. Joe. I loved to hate these guys as a kid. They redid them really cool for the 25th anniversary re-release
Yeah, they are fun to hate. Some of the best characters in the line
Dreadnoks are my favourite characters of gi joe. I wish the creators could make them more badass in the cartoon.
Yeah, they are basically morons in the cartoon
Machete 😂 what a missed opportunity to make a Danny Trejo character. Looking forward to talking Renegades though!
Subscribed!
Thanks!
Absolutely agree on Zartan!!!!!
I would put Zarana a little higher thanks to the comics (her romance with Mainframe in the cartoon series was just weird IMO)
Only one other note:Based on your criteria, Monkeywrench is appropriately rated, but the 2005 DTC action figure of Monkeywrench is absolutely magnificent!
@@joeconcepts5552 She really was featured a lot in the comic. I think Hama must have really enjoyed writing for Zarana.
Buzzer was my favorite.. followed by Torch.. They were all a fun group of mercenaries.
This is absolutely 🔥
"Never really heard of any of these guys since ZANZIBAR & ROAD PIG, Gnawgahyde!"
Yeah, they made up some lame ones in the comics. But there are a couple of gems too. I love Rugrat and Heartwrencher
"If TORCH isn't number one, WE RIOT!"
Thrasher and Zandar were always my favorites.
this channel rules man
I don’t know a lot about gi joe, I wasn’t into the franchise until the classified line, but the dreadnoks are my favorites
