Great vid, thanks. Another thing younger audiences surely cannot understand is the marvel the older players felt when this thing appeared in the arcades. It was top notch and far better than anything one could ever hope to play at home. I recall the open mouthes of the humble writer and a friend when they saw the golden dragon spitting flames for the first time (female warrior's spell when completely powered up). I think I spent the majority my pocket money on a holiday in Italy on this arcade cabinet. Pair this with the colorfully painted cabinet, the stirring music, the D&D craze of the days and the generally open (and not yet oversaturated) mind and you have a perfect setup for rose colored "olden times" glasses. Still fond of the memories, though.
It probably could've been more accurate on a larger cart, and regarding the music it's not that hard to port most of its YM2151 arcade music better than they did to the MD since they both use 4-op FM synth and the latter just has two fewer FM channels (replaced by three PSG channels), but it seems they put different people on it and didn't give them the same instrument patches. Still like this version except for the cheap final battle (at least in 1 player).
Was just about to ask that, I would love to hear your opinion because I haven't played them and am interested with the upcoming third game. Also, a review of Red Dead Redemption would be interesting as well as I think it is quite well written/voice acted.
Ah, Golden Axe. If you like Barbarian movies from the 80ties, you most likely like this game, too. The final boss (Doom Bringer I think) was absolutely brutal, though. I was never able to beat him on fair terms. So DW, did you take my recommendation from the last survey to heart in playing more cool retro games and less crappy AAA-Shooters? When can we expect the result video for the last survey?
The game's director directly cited Conan the Barbarian as a major influence on the design of this... so yes, very 80's. The survey ends February 1. The result video will be up sometime early that month. And I haven't looked at the feedback yet. That'll happen after the survey's concluded.

I LOVE THIS SERIES! WHY ARE WE NOT SEEING MORE OF THESE GAMES? makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE
Because SEGA is allergic to common sense and money, apparently.

Oops. Thanks for the link.

Sadly no. Only seen it on occasion. Hoping I get the chance to play it at some point though.
Can you do it in style of old reviews?
So-o...uhh...any-way...:P
ಠ_ಠ
would you ever do a redux of assassins creed 2?
Probably not.
80s fantasy was metal as fuck.
how many levels are there in this game exactly?
6 in total. It's pretty short.
Makes sense arcade games in general are pretty short I beated first Metal Slug in a couple of minutes in one sitting it had like what? 5 or 6 levels.
Have you played Darksiders series???........
Played a bit of the first game but didn't get far enough to really get much of an assessment yet. We'll get there eventually though.
