CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When the IRS comes calling for John (Jack Lemmon), his neighbor Max (Walter Matthau) enjoys his distress.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This cheerful holiday comedy, a surprise box office smash, featured a generous dollop of raunchy, crude humor and was greatly elevated by the presence of masterful performers in the lead roles. Jack Lemmon is John Gustafson, an ice-fishing Minnesota native who has been feuding with his neighbor and former best friend Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) for decades. The battle of wills between John and Max is characterized by crude name calling and harmless practical jokes. Max is unaware that John is having serious problems, chiefly that his daughter Melanie (Daryl Hannah) is experiencing marital woes and that his house is about to be confiscated by an officious IRS agent (Buck Henry). When it seems that John and Max may finally put aside their childish rivalry, however, sexy new neighbor Ariel (Ann-Margret) arrives and dates both men, pitting them against each other more fiercely than ever before. Despite their mutual loathing, the death of a friend, John's problems, and a budding romance between Max's son Jacob (Kevin Pollak) and Melanie may force the two old friends to reconcile.

Miss going to sleep over at my grandparents they would always watch this with me. The 90s were truly a magical time.
Yeah that scene with the attempted homicide was amazing. This movie was hilarious to me, still is.
They really were, man. Miss those times so much.
Love this movie 🎥🎥
❤
There's nothing special about 90's. The 2000's is far superior.
The Matthau/Lemmon pairing was truly a stroke of genius.
Those two were life long friends
@@GIJesse-xo1vl like Al Pacino and Robert de Niro.
The chemistry between them is pure gold!
Field goal funny
Best acting duo ever and it's not even close.
This is simply one of the greatest movies ever. I never get tired of watching it.
Wish they made a 3rd film
😂 blyat hono JoJo any moomoo mistah 87🌟🤩
Yackm93000lala cuz I'm listening 🎧 hahaha 🤣
Huvoez Knows hilarity NGOME XV RAM PUORIP NYUN GEJ
Funny asf
RIP Walter Matthau (October 1, 1920 - July 1, 2000), age 79
And
RIP Jack Lemmon (February 8, 1925 - June 27, 2001), age 76
You both will be remembered as legends.
Noticed how they were a year apart.
@@mare5786 yeah 😢
Not that old, my father was over 90 when he left us ♥️
they never made it to 80
Did you also know they were buried side by side. Talking smack in life as well as death.
I could watch this movie 100 times. We lost such great legends in Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau
I love how he didn't snitch him out but talked mad shit about him in front of his face lmao
That's because they are truly friends - that's how they (not) get along so well.
Kid Darkness it's so great! And he's just savoring the moment. Like "oh I got'em"
@@Warriorpoet79 And he has to stand there and take it - LMFAO!
@@chrisgast They built this up on them disliking each other but they were just a pair of elderly guys. Deep down, they were always friends. For two guys who hated each other so much, they spent an awful lot of time together.
@@chrisgast At 1:18 you can see Lemmon's character spli tting a gut @ Matthau's rem- arks about him going to the 'kinky strip joints where the men take their clothes off'.
"Wandering around talking to the trees..."
They’re not trees, they’re Ents.
As a kid I would rewatch these films over and over. Ahaha
I watched this movie when I was 23 and laughed. Now I'm 50 and my friends and I starting to act the same way as Grumpy Old Men.
Jack lemmons facial expressions 🤣
You can tell Matthau was ad-libbing some of the dialog by the look on Lemmon's face while trying not to crack up. Brilliance.
Jack and Walter, iconic duo screen legends, love all their movies.
2 comedian actors is so funny part and hilarious.
0:22 "Why do you tie your shoe lace, you'll fall on your stupid head. We're having a heat wave here. We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave!" - LOL LOL LOL
😂😂
I had this movie in VHS...miss my teen years so much.
My older brothers also had this on VHS too. I was only 6 when this movie came out. At that time I wasn't into this movie, nor was I really able to understand it. Which I confessed to my older brothers about it. They told me it's pretty hard to get into as a young kid as I was at the time. Now I've watched it several times as an adult and it's funny as hell to me
Its more than the funny moments, the 2 Grumpy Old Men movies have a certain charm to them. For example I love how the scenery of the state of Minnesota is practically a co-star. In Grumpy Old Men we get to see how nice it looks with all that snow and ice. And in Grumpier Old Men we get to see what it looks like underneath all that snow and ice. Just beautiful. The small hometown feel also adds to the charm. Makes one want to move there to live & hopefully have Max, John Pop, & Ariel as neighbors
This movie and "The Odd Couple" are classics! It's a shame they're both gone.
I was born in 1974 & my dad was a movie freak, so I had the pleasure to know about Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau & so many other great actors, from early on.
My favorite movie with Walter Matthau is "The Cactus Flower" with Goldie Hawn & Ingrid Bergman.
An absolute classic!
My goodness, I miss Walter and Jack. They were the best to watch when they acted together.
Same here. I miss these guys. I mean these great artists.
Buddy buddy, the front page, the odd couple and obviously this film and it's sequel. They were a great duo and Walter Matthau was always one of the funniest actors
There arent any other 2 actors I've ever seen before that work as well together as jack lemon and Walter matthau did
I wish this pair did one more Grumpy Old film together with these characters haha
@@Bull1908 well out to sea is a whole diff movie but atleast they are together lemon and Mathieu
I don’t think that we’ll ever see such a talented acting duo as Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!Seen it hundreds and still never gets old, as well as
gumpier old men.
I'm not sure if that pun was intended or not.
Did the moving truck change companies from Backdahl Transfer to United Van Lines? How or why did that happen?
@Teresa G: Soul Sister!! ❤️ I’ve been starting to think I’m one of the few left on this planet who adores this movie. Both of them. I miss these gentlemen. You might not see my comment as you posted a good 5 years ago, but it was heartwarming to read yours.
A good day to you-
It really never gets old! These guys are hilarious!
Where clan we watch
Walter Matthau is great in this scene haha hilarious
Jack Lemon and Walter Matheau are always great working together. This is one of my favorites. I loved the original Odd Couple. The sequel to this movie and the Odd Couple were both a barrel of laughs. They are comedy legends.
RIP 2 some of the cast members who have sinced passed away. Walter Matthow deceased on 7/1/2000 age 79, Jack Lemmon deceased on 6/27/2001 age 76, Burgess Meredith deceased on 9/9/1997 age 89, and Ossie Davis deceased on 2/4/2005 age 87. Quite the careers they all had.👍👍👍👍
I grew up watching the antics of jon gustafsson snd max goldberg...they were amazing...jack lemon and Walter matthau are 2 of the greatest actors ever.. even if your 30ish like me the odd couple in 68 with those 2 is hilarious
It's bizarre how, for two lifelo ng friends, Walter Matthau & Jack would die almost exact ly a year apart (by 5 days).
Now Buck Henry 1930-2020.
Such Many good Times we have had with Them, unforgetable
1:20 “Yes, without it…he could be anywhere…” 🤣🤣🤣
Omg..😂. I love their movies together. Love Matthau so much. He’s a national treasure of comedy. Sounds so much like my late grand daddy. Sounds voice, same jokes and wit
The MASTERS of Cinema, even the world was a better place with them two.
No just your life was
I always sing the heat wave song. Took me 25years to realize it was a real song.
The greatest old people movie ever made.
Man this movie was funny. My grandfather loved it. He died in 2021 at the age of 94. This is exactly how he would talk to all of his friends even my mom said during the 1970s.
My all-time all-time favorite movies grumpy and Grumpier Old Men
I was about 7 year old when I saw " grumpy old man" so very funny movie. Man, I miss Jack & Matthau thanks for making me laugh.
Amen!
I was 11.
Laurel and Hardy
Abbott and Costello
Lemmon and Matthau
Pryor and Wilder
America's greatest comedy teams. In any order you wish. All greats!
Jack lemmon and walter matthau pure magic.
"Why don't you tie your shoelace ("OH SHUT UP!") before you fall on your stupid head?"
Hahahaha
Jack Lemmon was cracking up this whole scene.
This is now a holiday classic for a century to come hopefully. At least until I die.
"the old Klikner placesch" 😂
One of my favorite parts of this entire movie is how he says perhaps. IIIIII think perhapsch
"the old Clickner placesch"
Freezing cold, ten inches snow: were having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave... 😂😂
Lol
Lol
“We’re having a heat wave! Tropical heat wave!
This and part two was one of my favourite movies as a kid
"Putz!"
Man I just saw this for the first time in like 15 years lastnight and I swear it had me laughing more than the hangover, even a few tears because it had me reminiscing of my childhood when I use to watch it
“We’re having a heat wave!” 😂
one of my favorite movies. Walter and Jack were actually best of friends all there lives. I miss them both
Love this movie! So glad I have it on VHS. non stop laughs!
Good morning dickhead....lmao. Saw this in 93 when I was 10 with my pop pop.....good times. This and the sequel are all time classics. Burgess Meredith was a legend. These two we're best friends in real life too....it really comes across on film.
funny film made me happy
As a kid, this was the film that introduced me to Lemmon and Matthau in 93.
I still remember seeing this at the theaters with my Dad and brother when I was 5 years old. I loved it, and still do. Even enjoyed the sequel. Without a doubt, they were the best comedic duo to ever grace the silver screen.
You and I are a Year apart. I wasn't into this movie when I was 6. My older brothers had this movie on VHS. It was hard for me to get into this movie at the time since I was so young. One of my older brothers told me it's hard to get into this movie if you're young, but watching it now is so funny!
He’s always drinking, starting fights
Lol I actually have that as a notification on my phone. "The man is a menace. Aways drinking, starting fights." 🤣😂
These two always made the best buddy movies
i miss these two
“The mans loco” 😂
I wonder if Jack was really laughing during that scene... when he turns his back, walks away and comes back. Great scene!
I think it's genuine. I don't blame him for that though, Matthau is hysterically funny... 🤣
I wouldn't be surprised if the director told Walter to say whatever he wanted and each take he said something completely different.
Jack was clearly laughing. I don't think he knew what Walter was going to say which caught him off guard 😂😂
this is the coolest thing ive ever seen
Ooooh what look out ! shlippery very shlppery! lmfao!
RIP Walter and Jack, a true tandem!
"Believe me, this man is a menace."
"I can't stand that kid, he's a menace!"
Walter has had to deal with two menaces in his career- John Gustafson and Dennis Mitchell!
These 2 grumpy old men movies are comedy classics seriously brilliant
Loved this movie, still watch it as often as I can
Classic comic duo
These two were legends, geniuses!
This is commedy genius
Walter Mathau looks, and sounds just like my grandfather!
This movie rules
What a classic 😀, watched it after few decades again
"Man's crazy, loco always hangin out around those kinky strip bars you know the ones were the men take there clothes off?"
"Mens stip joint?"
(laughs)
Idiot! 😏
I think Walter ad-libbed that line
🤣
1:16 The look on Snyder's face was hilarious after Walter mentioned those Kinky strip bars the ones where the Men take their clothes off 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I love ❤️ Grumpy Old Men !!!!
One of my most favorite and importantly well written movies in History.
~RIP Buck Henry 1930-2020~
this is a good movie it's hilarious after watching this i died laughing
"MAN'S LOCO"!!!
Mark Wounded Arrow Nipp always hanging around them kinky strip bars. You know the ones where the men tame their clothes off"
whatup
All time Favorite movie
All of the movies these two starred where way underrated. I believe they are some of the funniest movies ever. My favorite is Out to Sea. Long live Grumpy old men.
Out to sea is amazing. I've seen that a million times. Geniuses of comedy these two amazing actors.
Uh… no?? How were they “underrated?” If both Matthau and Lemmon were as iconic as they were, how were their movies underrated? I’m so sick of “underrated” being thrown around mindlessly on RUclips!
"Morning Dickhead" hahahahaha looool best part
I love this movie its my cheer me up/Christmas movie.
Although The Friendly Hatered Between These 2,
The Loyalty Is Always There To Protect The Other 👍
I wish they were around long enough for a trilogy. It should have happened.
I forgot just how much I love this movie. I grew up watching this as a kid in Minnesota. This was pretty accurate for the time. Now I get hit on two nostalgia fronts.
"Mans loco, hanging out those strip joints. You know the where the men take their shirts off?"
Classic haven't seen a good comedy like this these days
best movie ever!!
My go to Christmas movie 😂
I love all their movies together especially this one I can watch this one over and over and over and over again😄❤ I wish they were still alive we're having a heatwave🎵 we're having a heatwave🎵
Burgess reminds me of my grandfather who was always flirting with the cute waitresses at every restaurant we took him to. He was a scamp!
Miss you gramps. R.I.P.

Now thats friendship.
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon an inspired pairing
That Gustafson, every towns got one.
I despised these movies as a kid. But now I’ve grown up, I’ll always appreciate these two crazy guys 🤝
hahaha man they still make me laugh "mind your own business....how 'bout you tie your shoes before you fall on your stupid head", and then the old man has to break 'em up when they're fighting and calls them kids haha
"The Green Hornet strikes again... caught my limit; I see you only snagged one there."
"2... fish are on there you bonehead, and you know dam well I don't throw back what I don't eat."
"Oh yeah, like that 40 lbs musky you always yack about, it's a shame nobody ever sees you with these monsters.... ah ah."

I will never forget one night sitting at the bar in the bartender asked this guy next to us if he knows so-and-so.
He looked up at the bartender and said "no, I don't know who that shi* head is.....
The guy they were referring to was actually his friend sitting right next to him.
That moment when you relies you became these two
Having a heat wave here
