Marion you achieve more than I have seen one person do ever. You are constantly completing a project. Thank you for sharing your many wonderful projects with us. We enjoy you so much❤
Your projects this year have all been so varied and diverse and absolutely lovely. I want to do them all 😂. Thank you, dear Marion, for your clear instructions. I always look forward to your videos ❤
Marion, watching you is like taking a master class in stitching…! I really appreciate your work. It reminds me so much of the stitching my mother used to do. I still have one piece of her embroidery in my possession which I treasure. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely work with us! ❤
Thank you for a really nice Crewel embroidery "lesson". I believe your craft room may be a mess because of all the different items you complete for us, your viewers. So thank you for that.
Love this old style crewel work, really pleased you are showing us how to achieve it. Never done any but looking forward to giving it ago. Your tutorial makes it look achievable for me. Enjoyed your holiday video in Scotland. I share your enthusiasm for nature and the mosses are beautiful with their lovely colours and different structures. Please don’t think you don’t achieve anything at times. Look what you have achieved with your channel. So many people love your projects. You are able to come up with so many ideas and whatever you do, you present it so well. We all have off days, but we will always be here to support you. Take care
This is coming together so lovely Marion. I am always eagerly awaiting your next stitch choice, and am sometimes surprised, but never dissappointed. You have a practiced eye for balance and color, and your touches of whimsey always come shining through. What a sweet delight this crewel is turning out to be. Thank you Deary it really makes me cheery! 😊❤
Lovely progress on your beautiful embroidery project Marion. I always have a knitting, crochet and sewing project on the go too. Variety for whichever you feel like doing at the time.👏♥️🇦🇺
Marion your stitching is so beautiful. I am still settling after moving and haven't kept up with the weekly stitching but watching every week and will work through the pages to complete this lovely book. Thank you for all that you do for us. ❤
Love the colors and patterns of the new pieces. I will go and catch up. Will try to join Saturday. I volunteered to work for a Walk to Cure Diabetes. I'll get on in case you are still live!!! ❤

Loved the trellis work! I did some crewel❤ work back in the 70s when I was in graduate school and had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Thank you for the reminder and for helping to calm my agitation today post-presidental debate.
Hello Marion just catching up. I just love how you are sharing all these wonderful, traditional techniques. Beautiful. Now off to listen to your live stream and do some stitching ❤
Marion, thank you for explaining, not only what you are doing, but how you do it. I have always struggled with doing the long and short stitches to fill me flowers and leaves. And I loved your chartreuse hand sewn coat. Simply beautiful!! 🌺 💐 🍀
So very nice again! All you do! Love this woolembroidery ❤ Such sweet acorn with the french nots. It was nice to see that you and your sister had a joyful time in Scotland! 🌻🌿
Project variety is like the spice of life! I also like to have several different projects to turn to whenever something I was working on seems to no longer be bringing me joy at the time. While working on another project my mind sometimes wanders to new ideas or inspiration to return to something already in progress! Thanks for all your insights and inspiration 🌹🌹
Thank you for yet another lovely video. And you have absolutly elevated my stiching skills through the months I have watched your videos🤗🌻. I hope I can tune in on Saturday when you do your video. I will be in my little Swedish cottage with lots of my sewing projects - just relaxing. I’ll have to get the timing right 😅. So looking forward to that🌺🌻🌷🇩🇰🇸🇪💗🥰
Such lovely crewel work. Something I’ve not done but truly appreciate its beauty. 💖 Thank you for the promise of sharing your recipe for Saturday’s live stream. Sharing tea and dessert together. I love it!!!💖💖💖
Hello Marion. You gave me a bit of a smile over getting rid of some of your “stash”. A while ago I was woken up by a horrendous noise which turned out to be the complete contents of my craft cupboard collapsing across my work room. Even my little grandson remarked “Grandma, that’s a terrible mess!”. It took me ages to sort out, but I did decide what I really needed to get rid of and what I could not part with. So the local charity shop got the best part of half a carful of bags and boxes, which I hope other people will use and treasure. But one of the nice things is that I have found “stuff” I had completely forgotten about so have some lovely new plans for projects lining up. You have a great week and I am really looking forward to the next stage of this fabulous piece of crewel work - absolutely beautiful!
Crikey... That must have been a shock! Then you turned it into an opportunity... Brilliant! I'm about to go through my fabric. I've done all the yarn now ☺️🧶
@@marionsworld24 I wish you well with that. Fabric is a bit of a passion for me and I have real difficulty parting with any. Our local scrap store always has a fabulous selection from old curtains, duvet covers, bolts of fabric right through to fabric “crumbs” so I do have to limit how often I put my head round the door!
I'm loving the crewel work 😍 and I'm very excited for the next live as crochet 'is my jam' as my (much) younger siblings might say. Also yay for a second chance to win the thrifted basket !!!! 🎉🎊💃🤸♀️
Thanks Marion for this and each video you make. I learn something every time, and it's greatly appreciated. I like the idea of doing a project with leftover yarn. I have little leftovers of different weights and colours. I'd love to do something with them all. Looking forward to the next video.❤
I am enjoying the crewel project also. I used to make small projects in crewel years ago. I would enjoy doing a crewel project again and look forward to the next project you share.
I loved your first leaf & even made one! Now I feel I must fo this second leaf, too! Autumn isn't my favorite time of the year, you have really helped me. Many thanks 👍
Oh I love this! I have always wanted to try crewel work but wasn't sure how. You have inspired me! Going to rummage around the charity shops tomorrow! Good tip about having different projects on the go...See you on Saturday! Mary x
Loving the crewel work never done it before , luckily I had some Appletons crewel wool I collected up from a charity shop as you do , so it great to actually use it thank you Marion ❤ xx
Thank you Marion as always for your video. I have been working on the short long stitch and I am sure it's looking better with all your tips. Feeling more confident and may start the kit as my winter project. Also time to start a new jumper, I love a knit project to have as well. I now have Inktense so dyed threads are in the cards. Goodness this retirement business is busy😂. Tea and cake on Saturday is a date and congratulations on your subscriber count lovely. Well deserved.
I have really enjoyed crewel work it is so pretty and the motives are lovely Although I have only finished two projects. Stitching with wool for me is what I enjoy and the lovely texture too. I recently bought an old vintage book on Needlepoint and have been learning about that and thinking of doing a sampler on canvas and exploring all the stitches. Thank you for sharing with us. Looking forward to your crochet project too.
Oh! My crewel yarn is supposed to arrive tomorrow so I'll be able to start stitching along with you on this page shortly. You've got 2 things on this page that I love....acorns and laid work! Hope to be able to join in on Saturday.
Çrewel wool is something I don't have. I always look In the charity shops, but never come across it. I guess I'll be buying some then, or putting it on my Christmas wish list. As always, your tutorials are lovely and very clear clear to follow. 😊
Lovely again Marion , I would love a craft room but living on a narrowboat I don't have space to make a dedicated room, I am surrounded by shelving and honestly I have stuff pushed in every crack and crevice 😂
Hi Marion. I must tell you that my craft room needs a desperate reorganization too! Not even sure where to start! 😂 The crewel project is simply beautiful! Thank you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

It is just the fact that it will be embroidered solely with the crewel wool. It uses regular embroidery stitches, and you can stitch this with any other embroidery thread you want to. The particular type of crewelwork I'm stitching here is called Jacobean. Textural fill stitches, laid trellis, fantasy colours for things are all a hallmark of this very old technique of wool embroidery.
I have just bought a wonderful box of wool. It says embroidery on the label but looks like tapestry wool. Is there any way I can use this for this project?
Tapestry wool is almost the thickness of 4 ply wool. It's too thick to use unless you split it in half. It isn't meant for splitting though but I successfully do that myself. You could give it a try first though. Tapestry is embroidery too... just done on canvas with a more regular weave. Crewel wool is a two ply yarn which is half the thickness of tapestry wool. It's more robust too.
Anything that you can pull your needle and thread through with no bother. As the wool is thicker and the needle eye is bigger you want to look for a soft fabric with not so tight a weave. I find old tablecloths are perfect for this. Cotton sheets are fine as long as they are not a high thread count. You wouldn't ant to do this on quilting cotton or batiks. They would be difficult to stitch through. A stained or damaged tablecloth is usually not expensive and you'll get plenty of usable fabric from one.
I'll try my best. Sometimes when I bring the camera in too close it ends up not focused in properly. It's a bit of a trade off with the set-up I have I'm afraid.
Dear Marion I’m sure you have probably talked about it in a previous video but what fabric did you do for this? I struggle to pick appropriate cloth for embroidery.

No. It's an old linen tablecloth from a thrift shop. It's got a looser weave and is easy to stitch through. I usually use thrifted fabric, old tablecloths, cotton sheets etc.
Just because it's stitched with crewel wool. The same embroidery stitches can be used as in regular embroidery. And you can stitch this design with stranded cotton either. You just wouldn't then call it crewelwork..

Your videos bring me so much joy and your work is always so inspiring. Thanks Marion!. Now question for your or my fellow viewers. Is the thread also called “crewel wool” in the US? I cant seem to find it and I would like to purchase a few basic colors. I only see tapestry wool (which looks so much ticker) or DMC Eco Vita, is this the same? Thanks in advance.

It was such a delight watching you do this crewel embroidery today Marion. I have a question. What makes this crewel embroidery rather than just embroidery. Is it the crewel wool you are using or the stitches, or something else? Thank you for another wonderful get together. xx
Love your work. It’s absolutely beautiful. So what fabric are you using?
It's a thrifted linen tablecloth with a soft hand and not too tight a weave.
Love the sound of the thread pulling through the fabric. I’m a newbie- what fabric do you need for crewel work?
Anything that you can pull your needle and thread through with no bother. As the wool is thicker and the needle eye is bigger you want to look for a soft fabric with not so tight a weave. I find old tablecloths are perfect for this. Cotton sheets are fine as long as they are not a high thread count. You wouldn't ant to do this on quilting cotton or batiks. They would be difficult to stitch through. A stained or damaged tablecloth is usually not expensive and you'll get plenty of usable fabric from one.
Love your work nut I can’t see your stitches as camera to far away- can you make it closer? Thank you
I'll try my best.
I'm stitching the Stitch Journal on a thrifted linen tablecloth. I reckon it's around 40 threads to the inch...
Two questions:
1) Does the stitch you used in the oak leaf have a name?
2) What defines crewelwork? Is it the specific stitches used?
I don't know a specific name ..other than it's a laid trellis to which I've added a pistil stitch in each diamond.
Crewelwork is just defined by the use of the crewel wool. It uses the exact same stitches as regular embroidery. What I'm doing here is more akin to Jacobean crewelwork. It uses combinations of stitches to make filling patterns. The laid work in particular is less used in more modern embroidery I think. There's nothing stopping you from stitching this in stranded cotton. You just wouldn't call it crewelwork...
The white fabric you make the emboidery on , is it wool too?
No. It's an old linen tablecloth from a thrift shop. It's got a looser weave and is easy to stitch through. I usually use thrifted fabric, old tablecloths, cotton sheets etc.
@@marionsworld24 😀🥰
Thanks for the info
Hi, what is the difference with crewel work and embroidery? Sorry if you clarified on the previous video, I must have missed it ☺️
Just because it's stitched with crewel wool. The same embroidery stitches can be used as in regular embroidery. And you can stitch this design with stranded cotton either. You just wouldn't then call it crewelwork..
@@marionsworld24 ah right, thank you ☺️
