  • Stephen Kovacevich - The Complete Philips Recordings is out now.
Pianist Stephen Kovacevich is known as one of the most prominent Beethoven interpreters among living pianists. His concerto recordings for Philips, including Beethoven, Schumann and Bartók, never fail to astonish even the most demanding piano critics.
Decca celebrates his 75th birthday in October 2015 by presenting his entire recorded legacy for the Philips Label in a 25CD box set featuring a new essay by former Philips Classics producer David Cairns and original artwork.

interesting that his reads of Beet 109, 110, 111 are not recalled as favorites, though they seem to me to be the best ever by some measure --- the last pages of each are just extraordinary in their power and proper clang

"I'd give up all the sonatas to play the Sibelius Violin Concerto, or win Wimbledon, with the exception of Op. 109." Ha, ha! It's great to see a genius with a sense of humor.
