To me, if we just go by Haki and training. All of Wano, Luffy was refining his Conqueror Haki, while Zoro just tapped into it. Even if Zoro has some sort of Haki-training catch up ability, he is like a year of training away to being on Luffys level. Also if we look at Zoro getting a Black Blade as his peak, he is only at the starting line to get to his "peak" point is; Luffy is refining his abilities and Zoro is just starting.
Something you're missing is that Luffy didn't just get knocked out. He was basically dead if not for the mercy/cockiness of Kaido. Both Luffy and Zoro were waaaay over their heads when entering their fights and neither was a match UNTIL they got their ridiculous power ups. But I also think King is severely underestimated in these calculations. That and, more so, how King's abilities all were very direct counters to Zoro's abilities- from his flight, speed, impenetrable defense, etc. And the fact that Zoro's own weapon was turning against him. It's A LOT of weights on Zoro's ankles in that fight. That fight was no good measure of Zoro's ability at all. Not to say he's stronger than Luffy, but he's definitely a lot stronger than what people think.
Base luffy would decimate zoro. He has better haki, his conqueror's haki is stronger as well. And he has the feats of keeping up with kaido for extended periods of time. Yeah the gap is a lot closer when they're holding back, but the moment conqueror's haki is used, that's what really makes the difference between zoro and luffy. A lot of people make the mistake of assuming their conqueror's haki is equal and act like it's an equal power up for the two of them. Or they turn their brains off and only scale the damage zoro did to kaido, and leave out all other stats. (that's how you end up with this rooftop zoro > pre-conqueror's gear 4 nonsense). Lets also not forget just how big an advantage future sight is against opponents who don't have it. Especially when you're already relative or stronger than your opponent.

I'm actually pretty certain that Zoro is currently Luffy's equal up to Gear 4. If Luffy isn't using Gear 5, a serious fight between him and Zoro is basically 5/5, MAYBE 6/4 in Luffy's favor but it'd still be an incredibly difficult battle for both. Gear 5, however, turns the table since it basically just gives Luffy low-scale reality warping powers. Zoro might be able to put up a fight for a while but I'd give the win to Luffy 9 times out of 10 (with the Zoro's possible victory if Luffy is careless and Zoro manages to tough it out until Luffy runs out of energy).

King was actually strong enough to make Zoro's haki bloom, but it's only because Enma forced Zoro to keep his output at max. After Zoro forced King away from him he had to readjust the flow of his haki to stabilize it.

Since I was a kid who just started one piece I saw Zoro as recruit who is good against opponents who wield Luffy's biggest weakness, cutting. This is also why Buggy's introduction so early was a slap to Zoro's face and an immediate display of an enemy that only Luffy could defeat. Numerous other such enemies have also occurred, like Enel or Crocodile, who Zoro couldn't defeat but Luffy could. But an enemy like Mihawk? Luffy might not be able to defeat him, but Zoro might. Then again, Zoro should, according to this logic, be at least as strong as another swordsman who would be able to defeat Luffy (again, due to his natural weakness).

I think Zoro has AP and luffy has DC and what you’re talking about is gear 5th luffy not base luffy. So him going into gear 5th wouldn’t be low diff.

Not to say he's stronger than Luffy, but he's definitely a lot stronger than what people think.
Base luffy would decimate zoro. He has better haki, his conqueror's haki is stronger as well. And he has the feats of keeping up with kaido for extended periods of time. Yeah the gap is a lot closer when they're holding back, but the moment conqueror's haki is used, that's what really makes the difference between zoro and luffy. A lot of people make the mistake of assuming their conqueror's haki is equal and act like it's an equal power up for the two of them. Or they turn their brains off and only scale the damage zoro did to kaido, and leave out all other stats. (that's how you end up with this rooftop zoro > pre-conqueror's gear 4 nonsense).
Lets also not forget just how big an advantage future sight is against opponents who don't have it. Especially when you're already relative or stronger than your opponent.

I do think luffy will beat Zoro but it’s not gonna be a “fold” “roll” “pack” or anything that implies it is an easy fight. Luffy lets Zoro talk to him how he does not because he knows it’s all fluff it’s because he knows Zoro stands on business and even if he has to he would put luffy down.
I'm actually pretty certain that Zoro is currently Luffy's equal up to Gear 4.
If Luffy isn't using Gear 5, a serious fight between him and Zoro is basically 5/5, MAYBE 6/4 in Luffy's favor but it'd still be an incredibly difficult battle for both.
Gear 5, however, turns the table since it basically just gives Luffy low-scale reality warping powers. Zoro might be able to put up a fight for a while but I'd give the win to Luffy 9 times out of 10 (with the Zoro's possible victory if Luffy is careless and Zoro manages to tough it out until Luffy runs out of energy).

Old man Hyogoro taught him to fight without touching with armament's haki. Then Luffy understood he could do the same thing with Conqueror's after Kaido used it on him.
Since I was a kid who just started one piece I saw Zoro as recruit who is good against opponents who wield Luffy's biggest weakness, cutting. This is also why Buggy's introduction so early was a slap to Zoro's face and an immediate display of an enemy that only Luffy could defeat. Numerous other such enemies have also occurred, like Enel or Crocodile, who Zoro couldn't defeat but Luffy could. But an enemy like Mihawk? Luffy might not be able to defeat him, but Zoro might. Then again, Zoro should, according to this logic, be at least as strong as another swordsman who would be able to defeat Luffy (again, due to his natural weakness).
