Great video. I don't have the space or facility to work on my 2001 ZX6R/ZZR600, but this sure explains what my problem most likely is. I can only imagine what my fuel filter and fuel pump look like. You should do more videos on the ZX6R. There's a lot of us who own them, and according to the posts I see on RUclips, they all have fuel/ idle/ stalling issues. Keep up the good work. You explain everything clearly and your camera work is superb.
Well, my bike sat for quite awhile, hence the issues. It ran perfect the last time I rode it. Lesson learned. I've installed a new battery, Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner and fresh 93 octane gas, but it dies when I try to take off in 1st gear. It's as if I hit the kill switch when I let out the clutch. I'd say it is a clogged/ dirty fuel line/ filter, etc. Love your canine assistant, beautiful dog.
thats a bugger. how was the bottom of the 'bowl' where the filter sits ? was that clean too ? you can get stuff down in there which can get sucked up against the filter and stop the fuel flow. worth checking while you're in there
you're right. Im good with ear and eye protection but never wear gloves. probably something I should pay more attention to. Certainly help with clean up and stop the mess in the sink when I'm done and go for clean up
Sorry Charles, the bike is no longer with me. so I'm afraid I can't help with that. I did just get if off ebay though by searching for the bike model etc and went from there.
Thanks for the video. I have the same high speed issues on my gen1 Zx10r so I’ll definitely do this cleaning. Recently my low fuel light stays on regardless of full tank, does anyone know if this is a related or separate issue? Thanks
no probs mate. I reckon the fuel light is probably related to the same thing. Mine always stayed on after I did the clean. there is a sensor you will see attached to the fuel filter which has some wires going to it. My mechanic said they're known for getting crap in them and just staying on. He said to try blowing it out with air but this didn't work for me, so it always stays on now.
Thank you so much for posting this video...! It was extremely helpful and it saved me a lot of money and headache...!
Welcome

Did the fuel pump being clogged like that make the engine bog down at high speeds?
yes mate, it most certainly did. It was like hitting a brick wall.
It would not always happen but would do it most time.
Thanks for the vid. Would recommend for others to wear gloves though while handling gasoline.

If you hadnt sussed out that plastic tab, i would Have NEVER got my fuel Assy out..Thank You.
most welcome.
So are you able to set the gas tank upside while there is still fuel on it ?
Providing your filler seal is in good condition, yes you can
Wow , what do they use for fuel over there , not that crap they have in the USA is it ?
Did we ever get a part number or info on an alternative replacement for the filter?
Sorry Charles, the bike is no longer with me. so I'm afraid I can't help with that. I did just get if off ebay though by searching for the bike model etc and went from there.
Highflowfuel.com sells the aftermarket replacement fuel pump and filters.
Quantum Fuel Systems sells the aftermarket replacement parts for this fuel pump and filter. It is available at highflowfuel.com
have u tried it? would it be a good option to clean the pump and replace the fuel pump strainers that show on this page?
Fuppin tab got me first time
yeah , stupid design
