- The World of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman draws back the curtains of the stars’ personal lives, unveiling a retrospective and intimate point of view of the couple’s thrilling, yet exclusive world that existed outside of the limelight. The collection includes mementos from their love story, including Joanne’s wedding dress. Other highlights include scripts, costumes and other film memorabilia, as well as keepsakes from the passions they held outside the acting world, like racing, ballet and philanthropy. The couple were passionate Americana collectors and the sale includes a vast selection of early Americana and English furniture, décor, and fine art. A Life & Legacy: The Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman Collection will be offered at Sotheby’s New York on 31 May.
I had the immense honor and deepest pleasure in assisting Ms Woodward select furniture and fabric for her homes as a young design student working in American Folk Gallery in nyc. Ms Woodwards sensibility and wonderfully intuitive style and taste delighted me and made me smile. She always had time to share with me as I assisted her in making her thoughtful selections. Mr Newman was very quiet and we did not engage much. Perhaps if he knew I drove an old Volvo with a Chevy engine he may have had a word or two. I didn’t even know he had a Volvo like mine 😮. Warms my heart with lovely memories from my youth. Thank you. Beautiful people. 🎉

I was the bellhop and tour guide. The place was the Mission Inn in Riverside, CA. It’s where I lived, worked as going to college nearby. It is also the best place to stay when you are Paul Newman and attending the Riverside Raceway as an avid race car enthusiast. Well, Mr. Newman was mostly silent as I escorted him and his wife to the Presidential Suite. While he went directly to his room, Joann his wife could not have been friendlier. Maybe it was her first time, but she wanted to know about every detail & the history of the architecture. I spent about half hour with her and she was a delight.
A lady of amazing grace and a gentleman of significance.

Well, she has Alzheimer and speaking from experience 3 of my grandparents have. Even though their bodies are still alive, their not there anymore

I think he was an introvert to the general public but a good friend to many. Read the book "Paul and Me" and you'll see what I mean.
