@loudrgfan Family Guy, not as heavy on satire, but is amusing to people who have a very broad exposure since there are a lot of pop-culture references, some of which are a little obscure. If you are specifically geeky enough to get the jokes, though, its pretty funny, really. The first time I saw the show I thought it was a waste of 22 minutes of my life, so I get why you don't get it. You probably don't care for "Adult Swim" either, I bet. Robot Chicken or The Venture Bros. type stuff?
It turns out that the Ditzies feed off of the music in Fraggle Rock. In the event that the Ditzies die out, all of Fraggle Rock goes black and the Fraggles start to sleep.
@loudrgfan If we can't stop being so wound up in some of the moral ground and ideas we cling to we begin to lose touch with the things that matter and reality becomes surreal. Laughter helps us break out of that for a moment, gives us some perspective and maybe lets us see things for what they are. Sometimes ugly umor, in this uglier time, can remind us of the same important values those old shows taught us. But if we are so uptight we can't find the humor and irony in it we are all doomed.
@loudrgfan not a contiuous one throughout all the episodes, but each one does have the typical antagonist/protagonist, conflict, climax, resolution requirements of plot. There is actually some worthwhile commentary underlying many South Park eps if you can stand to watch through vulagarity and profanity. But you do have to start with an open mind if you find it offensive (and granted, they do TRY to be offensive, or at least as tasteless as possible, but often for the sake of satire.)
@loudrgfan I totally didn't get the "Family Guy" thing at first, but it does have it's moments of pure genius once you can tolerate the less genius parts to get there. i felt the same way about South Park until a good friend told me I would really like it and got me to watch the movie.( Not that there aren't stupid shows, but Family Guy isn't the barrrell bottom it appears to be at first. - I think Pokemon and Power Rangers were worse by a magnitude ...)

But neither South Park nor Family Guy is really for kids at all despite the animation format. The South Park movie was rated R for a reason. Both shows can be horrifyingly offensive, but they are also equal opportunity offenders - NOTHING is sacred! We have a tendency to take ourselves too seriously. These shows polarize the extremes and laugh at the idoicy of it
