I love to make this, a tip if you want them thinner: just use the peeler to make the strips, less dishes, thinner strips, and no anxiety for finger chopping 😁
@@sowhat... Mandolines can come with a guard that you use to hold the vegetable so you can slice without having to get your fingers near the blade As someone who popped most of their fingernail off without hardly feeling it because of how sharp that blade is I HIGHLY recommend using a guard and cutting glove.
I sliced off my R. Thumb tip off, Dr. sutured it back on, it didn't heal well, he ended up removing and letting it heal that way. My teacher said my handwriting was better with my left hand! I highly recommend a guard for the mandolin!!
There’s actually a dish in Slavic countries called Korean carrots which is similar, but you heat up the mixture first and then pour it over the carrots. It’s super good too
@HK-jb6hi I did some research. The name came from USSR koreans: "It was invented by Korean emigrants (koryion) when they were trying to create kimchi - a traditional Korean salad made from Chinese cabbage and pepper paste. The fact is that in the USSR it was very difficult to get Chinese cabbage, so they gradually began to replace it with carrots. So in Russia we still have Korean carrot sold everywhere :)
I love it when I come across information such as these. It feels nice knowing that we are all connected, especially with how divided we seem to be these days.
My mom made a carrot salad that was sweet and had raisins and cinnamon. I was a little kid. But it still easily one of my favorite desserts....I have to ask her for the recipe.
I know exactly what you're talking about. My grandma used to buy it from the deli that used to be by her apartment when I was little. Also had raisins and was sweet. My father loved it. She always served it in these little cut crystal bowls, with lovely white paper napkins with raised details and real silverware. They were the perfect size for fruit salad, pudding, etc. She always made everything even food she served look beautiful. I haven't thought about that in years. Thank you for this comment.
I love these recipe videos and think you’ve pretty much perfected them (in one of the last ones you did that loop-y audio and I was like damn it gurl that’s just ✨✨) but I do really miss your long form content because as much as I love your food I love your personality even more!
I'm obsessed with raw carrots. I snack them all the time with nothing on them. As kids my sister and I would always pull out baby carrots from our garden before they were even ready and eat them directly from the dirt like little goblin children.
I spent 2-3yrs eating only raw carrots - with the occasional apple. I looked like I'd been using cheap fake tan, and forgotten to wash my palms. My teeth are still lightly serrated..
That reminds me of copper pennies! They were always at potlucks and church dinners when I was growing up in the southeast. But sliced like coins. So good.
I use to hate the taste of carrots. I couldn’t even eat them on a carrot salat. Until I found out what organic carrots taste like. Wow! What a difference.
I like the way that you cut those that’s a good idea cause it’s hard to carrots. Sometimes this makes it way easier and then you get more flavor with more pieces really beautiful too.
I would recommend trying this by grating the carrots. Combining with grated cucumbers or ice radishes also tastes great. I also would recommend adding ground toasted black mustard seeds and mustard oil instead of olive oil.
Does anyone else wash their carrots if they are going to peel them? I don’t because I’m peeling off the dirty part. I do give them a quick rinse once they are peeled.
@@anne_f i immediately threw mine out. Kind of juvenile of me because I felt like I was punishing it for my stupidity. I'll get another one again eventually. Assuming my PTSD will subside. Ha! 😂
I’d personally use lemon instead of lime, and either honey (which I’m not a huge fan of) or maple syrup.. or even molasses. Try this: Carrots + apples (sliced or rough chop depending on how much crunch you like) + Catalina or French dressing (the orange dressing lol). Best, quick summer salad ever. I love using Honeycrisp apples- they go so well with almost anything.
I love to make this, a tip if you want them thinner: just use the peeler to make the strips, less dishes, thinner strips, and no anxiety for finger chopping 😁
I like to do that with soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame seeds, and toasted sesame oil. Yum.
Or use the grater on the side with the biggest holes. Like they (kinda) do in Morocco
Excellent. I was thinking the same. Also, I was thinking of using a peeler that I use for zucchini noodles to see how that would be.
While I agree, I did cut my thumb awfully bad with a peeler, so do respect the little guy, but yeah, mandolins are... A menace
@@Kirayni new fear unlocked😂
Mandolin with no guard had me sweating
Yep. I use the guard and wear a cut glove. 😂
It’s easier and safer with a peeler
I cut my thumb really bad on a mandoline!
Learned from that incident .😭
What does that mean

Cucumber ribbons, carrot ribbons, paprika, Salt, lemon. Let it sit for a few minutes. Absolute favorite!!!
I like your a bit better because I absolutely love, love cucumber😊
Will be trying this..
@@Sandrae7560 me too! Hope you like it!
Woah… your confidence with that mandolin is wild. I mandolined my finger tips off once.

My husband says I’m not allowed to use a mandolin anymore. There was an incident 😂
I lost the tip of my pinky this way 😅

Anyone who uses a mandolin more than a few times has had some level of incident....
Same! 😂

Korean carrots? As a Korean I’m curious as to what got them to call them that
@HK-jb6hi I did some research. The name came from USSR koreans: "It was invented by Korean emigrants (koryion) when they were trying to create kimchi - a traditional Korean salad made from Chinese cabbage and pepper paste.

“Korean carrots” are very popular in Eastern Europe. I loved them as a child growing up!
Yes I’m Russian and that’s actually my favorite salad it’s at every gathering
I love it when I come across information such as these. It feels nice knowing that we are all connected, especially with how divided we seem to be these days.
She is giving me April Ludgate vibes. Could be me, re-watching Parks & Rec, but still. Love it. ❤
Super good idea. Cucumber is good like that too. Turnip and beet aren't for everyone but I like them this way also.
What does a turnip taste like? And can I treat it like a carrot? (Soups, roasting etc.)
Might try this recipe thanks
I ❤ cucumber 🥒
I like turnips lol I like to use them as a mashed potatoe replacement
Love beets and turnips
Mandolin... FINGERS INSTANTLY GONE.
I won’t use a mandolin. Too dangerous!
Be safe - Use a mandoline guard or one time. One mistake and it's stiches!
Yep..... been there
Thanks for the tip mum
Yup. Happened to me too while cutting thin 'coins' out of a carrot. I wear cut resistant gloves now.
I had to stop watching when they brought out the mandoline and I didn't see a guard. That's a terrible example to set, as an influencer.
i physically cringed when she just started slicing
I love this video and this idea! Thank you for sharing this with us! Carrots are my favorite vegetable; and I cant wait to try this! ❤
Silky smooth transition 😊
Thicker slices cuke also
Yummmmm
If you blanch the carrots, it brings out the sugars and the color gets really bright. Soooo good

Nice , and with fresh orange
Thanks Caitlin. I like smacking my carrots against the cutting board too, gets the juices released! Amazing recipe.

Carrot salad...carrots, raisins, pineapple, mayo 😋
Using that Mandolin without the safety holder giving me anxiety 👀
I did that once, it was enough..to cut small deep part of my thumb.
I gave mine away. Peeler works without slicing me.
I've cut off too many finger tips... this gives me anxiety 😮
I literally squirmed
My entire body just clenched together watching this part!
Carrot noodles ❤nice

Yesss i do something similar for pickling carrors its SOOO good
Looks so yummy and gut friendly!
I used to do something similar growing up. We'd just use the peeler to make strips and use lemon and tajin

That sounds genuinely tasty and simple to make. I'd make this as a side dish with crispy tofu, or a bit of shredded pulled pork on rice. 🤔

For who doesnt like Coriander, the green of carrots compliments carrots very well, too. Or parsley, taragon, or even dill!
Thank you
Omg I always make this I thought I was the only one I definitely recommend it is is a nice healthy snack 😊
I love carrots & I just use my peeler to make ribbons. I bet the coriander is delicious in this!
I thought I was alone in my love for carrot salad!
I would recommend trying this by grating the carrots. Combining with grated cucumbers or ice radishes also tastes great. I also would recommend adding ground toasted black mustard seeds and mustard oil instead of olive oil.
If you can get carrots with their green tops, try mincing them and adding them into your salad. Very 🌿 herby flavorful.
maple syrup is a great alternative. Lower GI Index.Less processed as well.
Does anyone else wash their carrots if they are going to peel them? I don’t because I’m peeling off the dirty part. I do give them a quick rinse once they are peeled.
Nope was thinking same thing. I do it the same way as you. Just peel then a rise after 🤷
Me too, what's the point if you're peeling them 😂
I was searching the comments for someone to say this! 😂
All that dirt and bacteria 🦠 transfers to your peeler and then onto the fresh parts
Yeah…because the dirty part touches the clean part it doesn’t just go away…wtf
Saund and look delicious
I think I would try this alongside other similarly prepared veggies or like make it part of cole slaw.
Lol i used to enjoy raw carrots as a snack as a kid
Yum ..
Than you!
You can dp the same with slighly steamed and cooled down carrots it will be much easier digestable and still delish ❤
Raw is always better
@@The_Muse_73 carrots actually provide more beta carotene and antioxidants when steamed or gently boiled, compared to raw ❤️
The whole point of a carrot salad is that it is indigestible. Look of Ray Peat carrot salad

Tried it and biting a carrot tastes way better than that mixture
Good for your eyes 👀 too 😊❤
