DARK CORNERS OF THIS SICK WORLD S04E55 Развлечения
The FX in this film were some of Toho's best, and, the alien invasion plot was new for them, as this was made only 3 years after the original Gojira.
The scientist with the rolled up blueprints is actually speaking in English. He was in several of the early Japanese sci-fi and monster movies. I believe he was a business man who lived in Japan and spoke both Japanese and English. There were a few such people who appeared in many of the same films.
Tnx for the trivia. It all fleshes out the movies to be enjoyed even more :-)
There's a reason why I watch most of these movies with the original Japanese language and English subtitles.
Same goes for me.
Ja, but then the reviews wouldn't be so funny!
For me, it's subs or nothing.
I saw this when I was kid, and I was impressed by some of the special effects and the different colors of the Mysterians' outfits. Okay, so it's not a great film, but in its own way, this movie is a kid classic.
Exactly! If you were ten years old and you'd seen it on TV around 1963 like I did, you'd be blown away. And as @varanid9 says, the FX *were* great for the time.
(And yes, I was bitterly disappointed when I revisited t a couple years ago.)
0:30 is well worth repeated viewing. Some damn impressive filmmaking right there.
I actually went back a few times to see that soldier jump out of the tank
The lines “Please wear a cape” and “Markalite Farp” makes this one of my all-time favorite Toho films 👍🏽
To be fair, the effects were good
Looks like a job for Prince of Space...
Or Duck Dodgers from the 24th & 1/2 Century.
Your reference to The Stig from Top Gear is one of your best
This is one of your most entertaining reviews right up there with '' The Giant Claw '' and '' Beast of Yucca Flats ''. As with the Italian '' sword and sandal '' films of this era the bad dubbing is part of the fun.
One of the best movie is Bye Bye Birdie starring Ann-Margret and Dick Van Dyke.
I dig the "Spy Vs Spy" robot monster.
All he needs is a paint job and a hat!
Watch the RKO dub, it's much more fitting for the characters
+Dark Corners Reviews I vote NO against the Mysterians asking for the right to marry .......................... Earth Women :)
Thank U Dark Corners for this video review. I was about to take a pain pill but wound up viewing this video first. I laughed so much that I wont need that pain pill now for another four hours :)
Laughter is a natural pain reliever. Love your videos, your humor and especially the editing u do for all the videos capturing the funny or bad lines of dialog. :)
Glad we could make you laugh! Thanks for watching.
I was 7 years old when I saw that in a cinema, the first cinema I have any memory of.
wow yeah....thats clearly a recent redub of the movie, I recognize a lot of those voice actors and it sounds altogether too recent, like not in sync with the movie at all...definitely one to watch in the original japanese....or if you can find the original dubbed version I suppose
This is the voice of the Mysterians. We know you can hear us,. Earthmen.
This flick is enough to make ya cry ninety six tears.
Have you reviewed Matango yet? That is another great Toho gem.
Yes, they did. It's a sweet review
@@tecumsehcristero I dunno... I found it a bit musty and earthy. But Robin is still a pretty fun guy.
I wonder if the inspiration for The Mysterians can be found in the Mysterons in the TV series Captain Scarlet. They too were an alien race from Mars that got into fights with earthlings. Though they had superior technology to the earthlings, they worked mostly with intricate plots instead of all out war.
If anything, it would have to be the other way around, as The Mysterians preceded Captain Scarlet by ten years.
@@Gappasaurus I stand corrected. You are totally correct, Sir. I imagined that The Mysterians was of a later date. So we will reverse the question then. Were the Mystrions in Captain Scarlett inspired by this move, The Mystrians? I rather think so,
@@havareriksen1004 Gerry Anderson was quite the sci-fi fan, so it’s very possible.
I don't get that. The Mysterians were an outwardly dominating culture that just wanted to dominate the Earth through their advanced technology.. The Mysteroids, on the other hand, were a culture like the Soviet Union at the time, who waged a "cold war" or "war of nerves" on the Earth. They knew that they could never defeat us in an all-out fight.
Seeing this movie through the eyes of a millenial it would seem to be a horrible movie. But when I first saw the Mysterians in about 1962 on the "big screen" it was the Star Wars of my generation. I recently purchased the newly "remastered" DVD and the video is very much improved but the more recent english dubbing is terrible..as mentioned in the review. To this day "Mysterains" remains one of my all time favorite movies.
96 tears is the only thing I can think of with this title
0:44 there is no dark side of the moon, only the farside
YOU ASS-HOLE. THERE IS A LIGHT SIDE AND A DARK SIDE TO EVERY PLANET, PLANETOID ECT.
There is a dark side but which side it is changes every month as the Moon goes through it's phases. The movie should have said "the far side", which can never be seen from Earth, only from satellites orbiting the Moon.
El Santo [ Samson ] V S The Vampire Woman .
I want one of them telescopes that lets you see the dark side of the moon.
I ADORE Takashi Shimura! He's one of those rare actors who alone is worth the price of admission every time. 🎥
His performance in Ikiru is very memorable.
In Toronto, Canada, the theatre erupted in howls and laughter after a line you left out. You show "Good news, good news," but that's immediately folowed by "the Americans are coming..."
I have to admit, The Mysterians took me a few tries before I made my way through it.
Masked aliens in Toho films work better when they're there just to watch giant monsters fight.
Not that they have to be in masks or be aliens or be there at all really.
I enjoyed Toho's followup of Battle in Outer Space but I'm not sure why it worked for me when Mysterians didn't.
The translator moment is brilliant, thanks for the laugh!
Where's Godzilla when you need him?
If the biggest letdown was the dubbing, why didn't you watch it in Japanese with the subtitles? To me, the biggest advantage of DVD over VHS is the ability to switch to a movie's original language.
It not a seen it all before, in my case. I first saw the Mysterians, before I saw any other Japanese Monsters movies. I was 5 at the time.
I agree this new English dub is horrible. But at least it's remixed for 5.1 surround sound. The original English dub was actually decent. If only it would have been included in the DVD release. :( :(
Tim Madone I agree , when I had the VHS of this movie, it was well done, DVD has a full unedited clear print but , the dubbing is weak .too bad the VHS voices were not used for the DVD release
Nice The Stig references. I miss those.
3:30, I love James Mason. :) Seriously, if he had done some dubbing work, you couldn't miss him.
As a kid I was very impressed with the Markolites. I cried when one them was destroyed. So unfair!
The big question is...where is "?" of ? and the Mysterians?
I think this film had the best and most epic model battles ever. Lots of cool rays, and satellites shooting each other.
Unleash the battle muppet
Hey, give the Japanese filmmakers some credit here. This is a movie where they actually manage to destroy the Giant Monster, early on too ; a rare thing in a Kaju movie.
LOVE your reviews. Request: Mr. Sardonicus. Thanks.
My favorite Japanese science fiction film.
How a review of BEWARE THE BLOB and BEAST WITH A MILLION EYES.
I would like to hear your review of one of the Bob movies like the H man or x the unknown
The costumes are awesome.
I saw this when I was a little kid at the cinema - seen it on t.v. once after that and I rated it to be a pretty good film.
an epic masterpiece
Dark Corners Reviews - Most entertained by: (00:52) 'The Earth is being invaded by aliens from the home planet of "Top Gear" (2002).'
If you like. Please consider the 1965 film, CRACK IN THE WORLD. Personally, it's a favourite of mine.
The translator bit is my favorite.
Captain Scarlet! Oh... my mistake
I think this was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. I think my mother took me. I was 7 years old. Only remember the big ray guns - cool
In defense of this flick, it came out before most of the other Movies repeating this basic formula. The only major Kaiju-films predating it are the Original Godzilla, it’s direct Sequel and Rodan.
Why isn't this movie ever shown on T.V ?!
Alternative title: "when ALF attacks!!!"
you should review reptilicus
Daruma helmets? There's characters in "Pokemon" and "Yo-Kai Watch" based on Daruma, but this is certainly a new use...
watching the RKO version i got to think its the better dub version compare to the one you watch. Also Mysterian introduce a kaiju robot that is defeated by being knock down. No wonder human thought they could defeat the mysterians if their advance machine could be defeated that way.
Oh fantastic dubbing using professional ANIME dub voice actors. Its sort of jarring but great. I just wanted to find a review of one of the lesser known Kaiju films before Gamera and Godzilla basically filled the Genre,
ChaosTicket
There's activity on the dark side of the moon. CALL PINK FLOYD!! 🌜🌜
The Mysterians were awesometacular!
Should I watching Infinite Stratos? No! I hate this anime, and it's worse than The Tower of Druaga, A'ight, my friends?
Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse will be better than Infinite Stratos, better than Samurai Girls, and even it's better than Angel Beats!
Say hello to the naked Yui Takamura from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse and Kurumi Tokisaki from Date a Live, my friends.
please review night of the blood beast
The scene with the translator is funny. They go all through the film with the Japanese scenes dubbed in English then think to include one for the American who wasn't in the audience watching (and hearing) the movie!
He sounded suspiciously like James Mason
Yeah, this movie can only be watched in is original Japanese format. Though, I saw this in its first English version back in the 80's.
Fun fact, this movie was loosely inspired by hg.wells war of the worlds.
00:31 ha ha
Many of these Toho movies are available in two English language dubs -- the so-called "International" dub -- which is the one above, and the "Titra" dub, which is the one that most people of my generation grew up with, which, while they certainly have their flaws, generally have much better scripts and performances.
On the other hand, contemporary Godzilla movies, whoever the hell dubs them into English have committed a crime against humanity. They are quite literally unwatchably bad (or "unlistenably" bad?) -- at least to me -- they are below high school drama class level.
This English dub can be described as contemporary though. It was done by Bang Zoom! Entertainment for the 2005 DVD release of "The Mysterians" by Media Blasters. Which is probably why it sucks!
Have you done a review of Woody Allen's "What's Up Tiger Lily"?
Looks like the parents of the Power Rangers.
Your voice sounds helium-laced on this review
Great review I wish this and all the Godzilla films up to the terror of mechagodzilla were available on DVD or blu-ray. Also Great Britain has more brains than either the US and Russia
Godzilla films now in one awesome collection from Criterion UK amzn.to/2XofqkY or USA amzn.to/2Orqn19
@@DarkCornersReviews That set is one I've been mulling over. Have you seen it? There are some reviews on the negative side which are keeping me from buying right now.
@@DarkCornersReviews the only (major) negative is only half the movies have the English dubs.
What’s the point in reliving your childhood if you can’t be bothered to follow through all the way with your presentation of childhood nostalgia?
@@TheRealNormanBates Exactly! If the set contained all of the American English dubs for all 15 Showa Godzilla movies (and not those shitty "international dubs") I would've bought it in a heartbeat.
All of them ARE available on DVD, and most if not all of them are available on Blu-ray. Though I'm not sure if they're available in supposedly smarter Great Britain.
Was this before or after they got together with ? and had a hit with 96 Tears
Mysterians? Does Gerry Anderson know about this?
I’m guessing this is _not_ the AIP English dub...
Watch the original dub
Why not watch with subtitles?
The original. Dub was a better.
Ugh... Japanese CAPTAIN SCARLET sucks!
Why did not Japanese call (Godzilla) up he would have kill the mysterious.
If this had been a 70s Godzilla movie that's exactly what would've happened!
Your videos are way too short. Just started watching them a few days ago and they’re awesome I just hate that I get into the video then it’s over
I guess that was an Engrish translator.
See, this is why modern dubs are generally not very good 😕 Most are done by voice actors who are more used to doing anime localization and are often recorded with a tongue-in-cheek attitude (as is readily apparent here) instead of with the relative seriousness of the originals 😐 The 1959 RKO dub, while not _great,_ is certainly more enjoyable.
That is a hideous English dub track. I've only ever seen this in Japanese so it's even more bizarre sounding to me.
At least look at the original English dub
The new dubs are so souless
The trailer was awesome :
ruclips.net/video/AHbL8a71Hoo/видео.html
Forget our resources, it's our women
We Must Guard Our Women !!
The reason the dubbing sucks is because this is a 21st-century dub! The original English dub done by RKO back in the 1950s actually sounds good!
Blimey! You'd usually guess it to be the other way around.
Why would they need to re-dub this movie? It sounds fuckin' hideous!!!!
Great film. Stop whining about the dubbing and learn to read subtitles
It's not whining. It's a critique. Some dubs are good (like the original English dub for this movie) and some dubs are bad (like this one). Unfortunately Robin was stuck with the badly-dubbed version.
That is some atrocious dubbing. Rest looks neat.
saw this movie when it came out, it was garbage then and remains so
