Summary: When electronics engineer Mitch MacAfee spots a UFO as "big as a battleship," from his plane, the Air Force scrambles planes to investigate. However, nothing shows up on radar, and one of the jets is lost during the action. MacAfee is regarded as a dangerous crackpot until other incidents and disappearances convince the authorities that the threat is real. Some believe it is a French-Canadian folk legend come to life, but it turns out to be an extraterrestrial giant bird composed of anti-matter whose disregard for human life and architecture threatens the world.

DARK CORNERS OF THIS SICK WORLD S02E06 - Развлечения
If Ray Harryhausen would have done the effects , like he supposed to have, this would have been a classic.
YES
I came on to say the same thing! Then again, I suppose we shouldn't expect any better from "Jungle Sam" Katzman, who decided Superman should turn into a cartoon whenever he flew....
This is the one where the audience burst out laughing every time the "bird" came on the screen.
When you see this as a kid! You never forget the big bird! Still love it.
Short review, but, minute for minute, one of your funniest!
Yikes we peaked too soon!
This has to be one of my all time favorite scifi films. It's corny and the bird is ridiculous, but I still find this movie to be entertaining.
One of my favorite's too. The effects weren't the best - they were horrible - but I liked the plot and the actors and actress. The movies of today can't hold a candle to these, they have horrible acting, plots, actors and actresses.
The Sesame Street theme inserted here was nice touch.
"Yaaaahoooo -- I'm coo-coo for 'Cocoa Puffs!"
Rodan really let himself go in this flick !!!👍💪🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇😎
_The Giant Claw_ has to be on the short list of "so bad it's good" films. [Not claw, craw!]
Sorry 'bout that, chief.
But did it request the cone of silence?
Would You Believe...a Gigantic Prehistoric Bird?
How about a stop-motion giant bird...?
How about a laughably unconvincing marionette of a big ugly bird?
The sight of that last massively taloned foot slowly sinking into the ocean is just....heartbreaking! And funny. Very funny.
"You will believe a puppet can fly."
Thanks again Robin!
Just wanted to mention, it's been incredibly difficult to track this cute little gem down on Blu-Ray. Anolis (Germany, in English)) released it as part of their '50s sci-fi classic horror films series a few years ago but after selling out, it now goes for silly money on places like EBay. Thankfully, Arrow Video (UK) released it as part of their Sam Katzman box set just this year, with some other treasures you are familiar with; Zombies Of Mora Tau, The Werewolf and Creature With The Atom Brain.
I dearly love all the '50s sci-fi fliks, as they provide the nostalgia warm and fuzzies from my childhood and I'm rather proud of my collection.
The wonderful videos you and your team provide for all these fliks, I've made a staple. Thanks very much indeed. :)
It's BEAKY BUZZARD!
Supposedly, Jeff Morrow, the [human] star of the film, went to see it at a local theater with his family. He hadn't seen the final version of the film yet and felt he had done a great job. Unfortunately, the audience started laughing at the stupid looking creature, and Morrow became more and more embarassed, trying to hide under the seat. Finally, when he could take no more, he got up, said tersely, "I'll wait for you in the car." and took off.
No one would blame him.
Is...is that a giant buzzard? The size of a battleship? My mind is blown!!! 😱😱😱
Wait!! It's the buzzard from Rudolph the reindeer show
The use of the sesame street theme caused me to shot a drink from my nose.
I nearly fell over laughing when "the monster" appeared! That was a toy my nieces liked to play with when they came to visit at their grandparents' house about thirty-five years ago..
Would love the giant Claw as a toy.
@Dark Corners Reviews Now that I think about it some more it was skinny version of Big Bird alternating between orange and yellow (guess they weren't Sesame Street trademarked) with similar legs and pods for feet. I forgot to mention this was a puppet, if you hadn't guessed that by now!
WHEN ACTOR JEFF MORROW SAW IT HE GOT DRUNK FOR A MONTH.
Just like how Teenagers from Outer Space is my version of "classic B-movie '50s cheese at its finest" for alien movies, The Giant Claw falls in the exact same category of the kaiju genre. They're both rather silly, and a bit ridiculous, but my GOODNESS (!!!) they are SOOOOO ENJOYABLE! I love them both from the very center of my heart :)!
They needed to show more of Mara Corday!
appreciate the effort went into the intro
There's a brand of danish candy called *Spunk* , made by Galle & Jessen since 1971.
You can get two variants: *Spunk Liquorice* (black box) and fruity *Spunk winegums* (green box)
The word _spunk_ doesn't have any meaning in danish. There was never any intention of any double entendre.
I've never understood why they didn't sell more in Britain as a novelty.
Been cracking up to the entire giant monsters movie review playlist. Haha. King Kong Escapes, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Q, and the wicked tribute to Ray Harryhausen tossed in there to change things up a bit. :-)
Classic movie. I always wondered where that cool puppet went- it would look awesome hanging in my living room.
everybody likes to poke fun at this hunk of cheese.but it's a classic
Now here's a film which richly deserves vivisection. Suffered through it about 20 years ago and wondered why its producers would do a knockoff of "The Giant Mantis," which itself featured an absurd monster. But if they hadn't, we wouldn't be chuckling today.
***** We have done Giant Mantis too, Giant Claw offers more bang for your buck.
Just watched it and it was the highlight of my morning. Thanks for sharing these!
I can't believe it! I've watched this review several times, but have somehow always missed the opening 25 seconds! I'm sure I'd have remembered seeing Robin do the Chicken Dance in front of a Xmas tree & then fly through the air like Superman doesn't!!!
Makes “Godzilla vs The Smog Monster” look like Kurosawa.
Makes Reptilicus look like an Oscar reward film.
Can you imagine being hit by that bird's droppings?
ITS A GIANT BATTLESHIP
This must be one of the first ones. Its so different.
A Bird As Big As A Battleship !
This reminds me of Aeon, eon, the Terrible looking for the baby New Year. (From Rudolph's shiney new year) just throw it a baby and none of this would have happened. Lol
On Chicago TV in the 70s I saw a.movie about a pilot killed in a crash. Aliens dragged his body away and made a copy. An xray showed him to be a machine. He took off a glove when a woman kissed him; he touched her back and she died, turning immediately into a skeleton.
good big bird joke
Oh. I have to watch that one.
An oldie but goody. The review also.
10 years old this video - you been quite around my dude.
Here's something for you, if this bird was in a kids' show some might think it's scary - people post videos about those types of puppets, but put it in a horror movie and it looks hilarious.
Surely that wasn't "Their going to Bohr it to death"!
Not the Craw! The Craw!
Hello. Excellent review as always. Also, could you please tell me the name of the song used in the intro. Thank You.
+Glen Talbot Thanks. The song is Big Bird performed by the Blues Brothers Band from the album Red White and Blues ruclips.net/video/YXV008WJ46U/видео.html
Dark Corners Reviews Thank you for the information and the quick reply.
It has the same melody as "Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones.
It was better off as a blur.
I like your new intro better. It's hard to believe you've been doing this for 10 years.
3:13 is that the same actor who played the general who gets his brains sucked dry in *Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers?*
Suggestion: TEST TUBE BABIES.
That's a great opening, why did you stop doing that?
I saw , on a documentary that Ray Harryhausen turned this movie down . Then the producers went to a cheap company in Mexico.
Actually, the producers couldn't afford Ray Harryhausen, nor a bird made of stop-motion effects. So, they had to resort to using a puppet.
No wonder the bird looks like a piñata
I'd not seen this. Hilarious!
So its a giant um...vultute with shields?- how much acid did they do back then?
So how big is it again 😄
Not as big as Big Mama !!!!👍💪💪😎
Depends on which scene you see it in, because its constantly changing size!
When I saw the bird I thot is was a bird mutated by radiation
It's a good thing that Jeff morrow didn't own I gun.
Better special effects could have made the movie less laughable. Good 1950s Sci-Fi cast.
Yeah.
LOL!!!
You. Busted up. ThAt. Old movie like. Mike. Tyson
You can positively SEE the shame on Edgar Barrier's face as he recites his lines and questions his life choices while appearing in this film. 😶
The bird looks like something made by the Japanese.
it was the mexicans
@@QueenFan12 The Mexicans were made by the Japanese?
@@QueenFan12 I had one of those puppets long ago before I ever saw the movie. I had to watch it just to see how they'd make it seem scary. But then if you watched the Incredible Shrinking Man even a common house cat can seen scary when it's much larger than any lion you've seen! So the movie does work from that standpoint.
Little guy a turkey Could fly
THE BIRD LOOKS LIKE MY EX BRIDE OF MINE
I did like The Gigant Claw and dream about making new CG for it with a CG monster, it is a great B-movie and not a bad movie, it is so much better than The Green Slime for sure... I hope... I maybe need to take my meds.
And right up until you see the creature in all its marionette glory, it's a pretty smart, suspenseful SF B-movie.
The two things that are most annoying about this movie is that 1---it was released by a major studio. 2-- it's actually not that bad.....until the bird shows up. With a major studio involved, you would have thought more of an effort would have been made to make the title creature a little more convincing. At least the bird has a giant claw. lol
That was the original idea - unfortunately, the producer was Sam, Katzman, not Charles Schneer.
2:35 If The Bird is attacking the UN Building, then it is antiCommunist
ugh i unabashedly hate the giant claw, at no point did anyone say "our monster sure is goofy looking"? I love giant monster flicks, even the dry fifties american ones ( sorta) but dear friggin god , even if your movie is a joke, don't make the monster look like one
Dokkalfr: Apparently the actors shot their scenes separate and the monster was filled in later. I remember a story of the star of the film sneaking out of the premiere after seeing and hearing the jeers and laughs when the creature finally made its appearance.
If compared with Rodan which was produced in almost the same period, the Giant Claw`s special effect is mediocre.
A Rodan vs Giant Claw would've been great!🦇🦅
@3:35 This proves that Robin can't spell "sh!t"!
I have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of movies in my longish lifetime, & I have a very high tolerance for low production values, general silliness, & good old Ed Wood. Still, I honestly have to say that this makes the cut for one of the top ten worst films I have ever seen. No, that's not true. Top five. Sincere apologies to all those in whose hearts it has found a fond place. 😱
The Giant Claw is possibly the greatest film ever.
I can't believe I never heard of this terrible film before!
This overblown review begins with self-aggrandizement. Boring.
