Thank you for posting this . 98 Dakota . Stuck at work . Pedal goes half way to the floor before Starting to engage but not enough to shift while running . Did this procedure in the parking lot and now have full pedal . Thank you and god bless !
That sounds like my kind of luck. Many times I’ve had to repair my vehicle in the parking lot at work because it would be dark by the time I got home and or the vehicle would be too hot to work on. Glad I could help you out.
I bought a 2001 dakota that someone said that they just redid the clutch... same thing. Cheap throwout bearing blew apart and I just replaced everything there too!
It has a retaining “clip” that keeps the rod in once it’s installed but if you pull the brake pedal up and towards the seat it will pop loose. Might break the clip in the process (I did but it’s never caused any issues. I drove the truck several days last week, no problem)
Another option is , remove the 4 brake booster nuts push it into the engine bay as far as you can and wedge it a piece of wood to hold it out , it gives you enough space to pull the master out and bring the whole assembly up. Also if your going to bleed it do it outside the truck first , you`ll have to make a rig to keep the slave cylinder from popping out.
I have done clutch work on my 91 camaro, bleed the slave and all that good stuff now I have a nice small dakota and I think it will need some of that work done too is it in any way similar!!!!???

Ya, those things are junk. I’d never use something that flimsy where it’s half a day of disassembly just to get to it.
How did you remove the pedal connecting rod from the front of the master cylinder?
