I always loved the Rocky movies since I was little and have grown up with the Creed trilogy being released. They’re all so important and inspiring to me. Can’t wait for the 3rd one!
Creed (2015) is one of the most greatest sport drama movies of all time. The story, performance's, music, direction, screenplay, fight sequences, cinematography, and motivational, inspirational, and powerful messages was spectacular and phenomenal. It also gives a insightful and articulate representation of redemption such as fight for what you believe in and stand for. It was decent and to this day I still watch it. Creed (2015) is such a true blue modern gem in cinema. Ryan Coogler directed a classic that will be in our hearts forever. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍
creed made me cry with the line where rocky tried to stop the fight after the rd he got knock, i cried like a baby bc i had the same experience with my dad
Might be my favorite film in the franchise. I didn't grow up on the Rocky Films so I don't have the nostalgia but I love them. But this I think hits on every level
When creed tells rocky why he doesn’t want to stop the fight, saying he wants to prove he isn’t a mistake, bro I had cold chills in the theater. People in the audience I was around started yelling out “come on creed!” I’ve never seen that before in a theater before.
I like how both the Rocky IV director's cut and Creed II added more to Ivan Drago than just "stereotypically OTT evil Russian" with him losing everything after Rocky beat him which was his karma for killing Apollo, his country dropping him as their propaganda tool, his wife Ludmilla turning out to be a gold digger and leaving him to raise their son Viktor alone and so on.
Thanks for the review! :-) Just saw CREED 3 tonight! I’m not overdoing it when I say, that this film f’ing OWNS! In its own way it goes neck-to-neck with Creed 1, and is a FAR_better film than Creed 2 (which is also solid) We were 8 friends tonight, attending an IMAX galla-premiere here in Denmark, and you could feel the intensity in the air. This story is so personal and intimate, and GREATER because of it! Michael B. does such a great job directing and has never been better as Adonis. I was shocked to realize that I DIDN’T miss Rocky, because the story was just so personal and exciting. However, there is ONE specific sequence where it felt weird he wasn’t there (but that’s not the same as me saying “I missed him”) This film truly takes things into a new awesome era! CREED 3 is EASILY the most intense boxing-film I’ve ever seen (and I don’t say that lightly) Jonathan Majors is such a BEAST! ALL of the scenes between him and Michael B. are so fucking well executed, and they get truly intense! CREED 3 absolutely deserves to make bank! I have a strong feeling, that this one will earn a great deal more than the previous two films. It feels oddly fresh, in the world of boxing flicks. They took some pretty big chances with this one (elements I won’t spoil) and it’s EPIC! Get ready. Creed 3 is the bomb! Ps. The immature quirks of Adonis are GONE in Creed 3, Cody ;-) So you’re good on that front, hehe. Our boy has truly grown up in this one.
The scene where Rocky says if I could trade it all for one more day with my wife and you included a piece of it in your review that I thought cemented his Oscar win which never came
While I do love the Creed films I always thought it was a missed opportunity not to have Apollo's other kids featured in these movies. Could of been a cool and complicated dynamic. Hopefully they will pop up in another sequel maybe.
i think creed is the best of the series the only rocky movie i would give a five star rating. yes is the kinda of a remake of rocky if you think about it but it does it better for me. love donnie and his arc of coming to terms with his fathers legacy . the father son realtionship between donnie and rocky is the most heartbreaking of this series. both helping each other fight there greatest fight in life donnie against conlan rocky agaisnt cancer which is the biggest fight in life this is stallones best perfromance period , great movie
nice to see a franchise hand off the baton and have the new character take it and run with it instead of a new character stealing the baton and beating the previous holder to death with it
Hot take but this movie has my favorite training montage of the whole franchise, Ludwig Goransson score made this whole movie for me and almost made it my favorite movie of the franchise. Rocky 1 is still there but for how long?
I didn't have huge expectations for this movie but was blown away on how great this movie was when I seen it. I wished I had seen it at the theater for sure.
quality review, holding my hand up I thought this was a tired Hollywood squeeze of nostalgia for more money from a fanbase. I am glad I was so very wrong, I loved Creed 1 and 2.
Though I haven't seen the Creed films yet, I constantly love to listen to the song "Last Breath" by the rapper Future, which sampled the Rocky theme. Everytime I hear the track, I always smile. Regarding the movie itself, I don't buy into conspiracy theories at all, but, it's said that Stallone was slated to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2016. But, when he gave his speech for winning the Supporting Actor Golden Globe, he didn't thank Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan (the two men who were crucial in this movie getting made and Stallone coming back as Rocky). It's alleged that because Stallone didn't thank Coogler and Jordan, that's why Mark Rylance won for "Bridge of Spies" instead of Stallone for "Creed". Read into all of that what you will. I REALLY gotta watch these movies.
Never judge a book by its cover. Also, I think that immaturity you’re talking about is more about Michael B. Jordan’s acting along with the script. I tend to see those same mannerisms in most of his roles. I just recently watched Creed again and made a comment that sometimes I see Jordan struggle with vulnerability in his roles. It’s always about being guarded. I can’t imagine that every script he’s been a part of has embedded that for his characters time in and time out.
Was a very nice surprise how good the Creed films are. I thought “Cash Grab” instantly seeing this was coming out. So glad that it actually had substance and made me feel something. Very nice film
The entire Rocky franchise has never really been upsetting for me, even though I was not a great fan of 4 and 5, they were all enjoyable to watch and I thought this was a great turn in the franchise. And yes, I don't even watch the Oscars anymore. Stallone got robbed for an award in this film, then again so much more talent has been excluded from the Oscars, (Case in point, Mia Goth for her performance in PEARL), so it was nice to see him nominated at least.
Off topic but would a Mackey spinquel off series to The Shield work? Avoiding spoilers but bored where he was at the end of the show picks up a tip about buried money from Anton (who gets out of prison early due to Covid or budgeting) sense Mackey on one Farewell Ride. Dutch had a cameo in CSI (maybe motivated by an off screen death)I think working for the FBI which could give him a wider reach to bring down Vic once and for all. Maybe end an episode with a Kavanaugh stinger. I could totally see it being another New Blood but The Shield writers were always tighter then Dexter's
My ONLY complaint with this film is that they made Apollo into a cheater. They didn’t need to taint his legacy just for the sake of grittiness. Mary-Anne could have very well been in the very early stages of pregnancy when Apollo died and didn’t get the chance to tell him. That’s my only issue. Otherwise I love these films.
I totally get where you’re coming from with the immaturity of Adonis & the way he spoke to Rocky but I understood it because he was hurt so he was speaking from love & I get it. Also completely agree that Stallone was robbed of the Oscar! I remember watching it & I got so mad that he lost that I’ve never watched the Oscars again after that. He was SO damn good in this movie. The scene when he says to Donny that they’re not really family & then says to himself “why’d you say that”?! Aw it’s so good 😚

The return of Rocky Balboa is the bullseye. Made it game set match. And the Oscars are a bunch of snobs. But fret not brother in horror and metal, they are going DOWN.
I've a big fan of Creed, but Apollo did mention his "kids" plural in Rocky 2. Kinda wondering where they are. And you just opting out of Creed for various reasons cracks me up. I did the same for the original Scream, despite being a huge slasher fan. The movie just seemed too "trendy" for me. Rented it on VHS and changed my tune.
i watched all your rocky series reviews. When Mickey came to rocky and rocky pushed him away but Mickey was listening from the stairway I believe you called it endearing. You certainly had no negative criticism of rocky's character for it. When that scene and energy is mirrored in the creed film you called Adonis immature. All that's changed are the races of the males playing the lead.
I watched creed for the first time recently and I thought it was good, except for one thing, Adonis being a love child. I grew up watching all the rocky movies, and I wouldn't have thought that in any of the movies that Apollo cheated on his wife Mary Ann in anyway, she was to him like Adrian was to Rocky, it just makes him looks like nothing was real with him. I just think that they could have easily just tweaked it to where Mary Ann found out she was pregnant with Adonis after Drago beat him to death and it would have given as much an impact if not more. It's still a good movie like I said, but Apollo Creed was a better man than that.
Easily the 2nd best of the franchise to me. However, I am not excited for CREED 3. I prefer to view CREED and CREED 2 as a big two parter epilogue to ROCKY BALBOA where Rocky trains a successor to carry on his legacy. CREED II had a perfect ending for both Rocky and Creed where Rocky reunites with his son and meets his grandson and Creed becomes a dad and makes peace with his father
Rocky 4 is my favorite. I agree Clubber Lang is cartoonish.. The first Creed and Rocky Balboa hand in hand.... Rocky 5 is hated on way too much. I thought Tommy Morrison was a decent boxer.....
Adonis and Rocky are not similar at all. Rocky was never intrinsically determined. Rocky declined his title shot, his rematch, etc etc. Adonis couldn’t be told no. Rocky didn’t want to be a fighter and hurt people. It was just a living for Him. He hated it. He didn’t even want to break that guy’s thumb. If Rocky had a good job and comfortable lifestyle the way Adonis did, He probably would have never wanted to fight. Adonis, like Apollo, is a true warrior and is always seeking a fight.
Why is everyone surprised Stallone didn't win an Oscar. The role of Rocky is not really a deep character, it never has been. It's basically Stallone playing a more broken down version of himself. It's like when you see Jack Nicholson ham it up. He's just playing himself, it's not a stretch of a role folks.
Sylvester Stallone not winning Best Supporting Actor for this film is arguably one of the biggest snubs of all time. Excellent performance and I believe he would’ve won it in a different year.
Loved sharing the Rocky series with my young kids (under 10 years old at the time). When Creed was released, it was difficult from a father’s POV (me) to explain the genesis of Adonis Creed to my children. They did not understand that Apollo was his father, but “Claire Huxtable” was not his mother. Very confusing if your young kids wrapping your head around and understanding the terms unfaithful, having sex, cheating, did not love, a bad man etc. There is a certain maturity (age level) to understand where Adonis came from and at the same time forcing a parent to have “a conversation” they may not be comfortable explaining to under 10 year old kids. You can argue that these series of movies should have been called “ROCKY Jr” about Rocky’s illegitimate son. But wait….Rocky would not have done that to Adrian! Then why would Apollo do that to his wife. Is it because he is (I don’t want to say it). I remember seeing the love in Apollo’s eyes staring at his wife before Drago killed him. That’s the Apollo my kids and I remember not him being unfaithful shagging women before his match with Drago. It’s a shame, I do like the Creed series but not a fan of how the writers (Stallone) introduced Adonis to launch this franchise. Also CREED has swearing so it pretty much killed watching the series as a family. I’ll revisit when their teens!!!
I never liked the Creed movies. I just don't like Adonis. He just isn't a likable character to me the same way Rocky was. It was easy to love Rocky, even in all his flaws. Adonis just comes off like a jerk. I felt the romance was also much weaker than the romance between Rocky and Adrian. Rocky was the best part of the movies. That is why I have very little interest to see Creed 3.
Fair enough. At times, i dont like Adonnis' attitude as it comes off very am superior to you or entitled. Am saying this as a black man. But Creed1 was very insta classic with that familiar Rocky underdog feel. I dont feel the same way about Creed2
Am I alone in thinking the Creed movies are trash? I feel like I’m watching the Force Awakens equivalent copy & paste. The fights themselves have no impact and are shot awkwardly in my opinion (at least part 1, I don’t remember part 2) Rocky fights all had SERIOUS weight to them & they TOOK THEIR TIME to get there. Plus i don’t like either of the leads so that doesn’t help. And Tessa Thompson’s rap career? LOL I prefer Adrian so much more over this chick. Just nothing redeeming for me. A cheap knock-off. A poorly performed cover-band.
The Creed movies have a lot less cultural significance than the movies that came before them. That doesn't make them bad, but they don't have the grit, vigor or the heart that the first few movies do. I would also argue that Apollo having an illegitimate son kind of insults what was a character that was a big family man. I'm not saying these are bad movies, but they aren't on par with the first two. Apollo's sons story isn't all that unique within a sport where most of the successful and best boxers are black..
I'm a HUGE fan of the Creed franchise! It's in my top ten favorite movie franchises of all time! I love how motivational, inspirational, grounded and realistic the Creed movies are! I would love for you to re-rank the Rocky/Creed movies. This was another solid review. 🥊🎬🎫🎥🎟️🎞️🍿
I watched this movie just because I was curious, I was convinced it was going to suck. Not only did I think it was amazing, but parts brought me to tears. Stalonne is so good in this movie 🤌
It shows what a good person Mary Ann Creed was to take Adonis in knowing he's not at fault for Apollo's affair which conceived him.
I agree it's not children's fault for the actions of their parents but not many people would do what she did
I think it also had to do with all her and Apollos kids being grown and her being alone.
The idea of this film diminishes Apollo as a character. IMO.
@@Plainview-tu7xn I agree
@MM she wasn't.(non-spoiler for Creed 3)
12:27 Him learning he can both be himself and honour his dad is one of the best parts of the film.
Adonis was no mistake. He built his own legacy.

Yeah. That's the point of this movie right there. He finally explains his motivation. Brilliant stuff
I recently watched Creed and Creed II for the first time in preparation for the third part, so I really appreciate the timing of this reviews
Creed was definitely my top 10 favorite films of 2015 and I was a senior in high school at the time.
What we're the other 9

Great review Cody! To me this is right in middle of my franchise ranking! Also, on unrelated note, RIP Tom Sizemore! I wish Cody would review Heat!
Honestly this is my personal favorite movie of all time. For so many reasons it resonates with me and I just love it to death.

Love Creed. Really enjoying this Rocky series review series. It's getting me hyped for the new one.
The Creed films are a solid Trilogy, love the first 2 films and watching Creed 3 on Saturday (have heard good things so far)
While I do love the Creed films I always thought it was a missed opportunity not to have Apollo's other kids featured in these movies. Could of been a cool and complicated dynamic. Hopefully they will pop up in another sequel maybe.
Michael B. Jordan and Wood Harris working together again was a nice Wire reunion, even more so in Creed II.
i think creed is the best of the series the only rocky movie i would give a five star rating.
yes is the kinda of a remake of rocky if you think about it but it does it better for me.

Cody you should review “The Guest” from 2014. A lot of John carpenter influence
That immature outburst is realistic when you are angry things come out

This was a truly beautiful picture. My only negative is I felt they should have stuck with him growing up poor in the hood instead of apollos mansion.
A week ago I tried to find this, watched all of the rocky and creed videos, what happened to the first creed!
I remember Michael b Jordan from the daytime soap all my children he's truly come far

Adonis isn't always likeable but Michael B. Jordan has a very natural charisma.
Damn , I need some of these Subs and views over on my channel 😅
This movie was mediocre with a mediocre cast.
Am I alone in thinking the Creed movies are trash? I feel like I’m watching the Force Awakens equivalent copy & paste. The fights themselves have no impact and are shot awkwardly in my opinion (at least part 1, I don’t remember part 2)
Rocky fights all had SERIOUS weight to them & they TOOK THEIR TIME to get there. Plus i don’t like either of the leads so that doesn’t help. And Tessa Thompson’s rap career? LOL I prefer Adrian so much more over this chick. Just nothing redeeming for me. A cheap knock-off. A poorly performed cover-band.
Bet if the leads were white...
Stallone not winning the oscar was horrible
The Creed movies have a lot less cultural significance than the movies that came before them. That doesn't make them bad, but they don't have the grit, vigor or the heart that the first few movies do.
I would also argue that Apollo having an illegitimate son kind of insults what was a character that was a big family man.
I'm not saying these are bad movies, but they aren't on par with the first two. Apollo's sons story isn't all that unique within a sport where most of the successful and best boxers are black..
Apollo just happened to be black man.
But its reflective of athletes of all sports and races to have extra marital affairs producing children.

Rocky doesn't. Although Hollywood could chose to exploit that idea at some point I guess.
