- A walking tour in the beautiful Sea town of 𝗚𝗮𝗲𝘁𝗮, half-way between Rome and Naples.
The virtual walk starts behind the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, then tours inside the old town, walking through the narrow streets and alleys of the town and encountering incredibly beautiful views and panoramas. It's a shame it's impossible to feel the beautiful smell of the blossoming flowers in the town...

The town has played a conspicuous part in military history; its fortifications date back to Roman times, and it has several traces of the period, including the 1st-century mausoleum of the Roman general Lucius Munatius Plancus at the top of the Monte Orlando.
It is the ancient 𝗖𝗮𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮, situated on the slopes of the Torre di Orlando, a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Inhabited by the Oscan-speaking Italic tribe of the Aurunci at least by the 10th-9th century BC, the town was an ancient Ionian colony of the Samians according to Strabo, as he believed its name stemmed from the Ancient Greek καιέτας, which means "cave", probably referring to the several harbours.
According to Virgil's Aeneid, Gaeta was instead named after Caieta, Aeneas’ (another legend says Ascanius') wet-nurse, whom he buried here.
In the classical age Caieta, famous for its lovely and temperate climate, was a tourist resort and site of the seaside villas of many important and rich characters of Rome.
Like the other Roman resorts, Caieta was linked to the capital of the Empire by Via Appia and its end trunk Via Flacca (or Valeria), through an opposite diverticulum or by-road.
Its port was of great importance in trade and in war, and was restored under Emperor Antoninus Pius. Among its antiquities is the mausoleum of Lucius Munatius Plancus.

I was stationed there from 1986-1988. Oh the memories.
Cool Eric , I can somehow understand you with this; I loved for 2 years in Russia (not military related of course) and I still miss it dearly ... Years gone by ... :/
I was stationed with the US Navy in Gaeta 1976-79. A beautiful city with wonderful people. I hope to return some day.
Truly a lovely town Dakota, agreed. From time to time I get back there just for a walk. There's always something "nice" there which is different from nearby towns
I was on the ship that replaced yours, 1979 /81. I have returned twice and am planning a third visit.
gaeta perfect location... i went there
2012 ... perfect..
Love it too Efe! Thanks!
Spent 6 months there in 1976 when I was in the Navy. A beautiful and amazing place. I hope to go back there one day.
Agreed Cozzie, lovely place Gaeta and... its "tiella" as well ))
It's much changed since 1976, I don't know if for worse or for better... still, always lovely to visit it. I don't live too far away.
I visited Gaeta in July 2023. What a beautiful place! I can't wait to go back.
Ciao James, nice to see you back... Oh Gaeta is stunning, can't believe I filmed this so long ago by now, almost 3 years ago... beautiful city indeed, I should go back again
I'll keep an eye out for an updated video!
Lived/worked in Gaeta for 13 years. I miss it 😭😭
Indeed , such a beautiful town. I wish I would live there too
Still Wanderer 4k Walking Tours it’s so beautiful! Once things get better. My wife and I are moving back. We both miss Italy a lot.
Thank you so much Daniel
I felt like I was back in Italy.....Thanks for the wonderful walk.....made my day....
Glad you enjoyed Colleen!
Beautiful Gaeta! I was stationed there on the USS Little Rock there from 1974-1976 and loved every minute of my stay. The local people were wonderful and learned Italian with the friends that I made there. Hope to visit nest year to see it's changes.
Very happy the video was able to revive such good memories Doug; love Gaeta very much myself. I don't live too far away (not so close though...) but it's always a pleasure to go there and try a "tiella"... with my parents we went to buy fresh fish at the fish markets... Gaeta has a charming of its own... I hope you'll manage to come back then. Wish you a nice weekend!
I was stationed on the USS Little Rock as well until it was decommissioned with the USS Albany taking over. I've decided to stay in Italy. Love to meet you Doug.

Love the town myself. Very peaceful and the local food from there is amazing as well
My father's hometown. We visited there in 1984-85. This brings back memories of wandering around the town unsupervised, and my dad saying, "Where the hell were you? We were worried sick!"
Thank you for this memory... Gaeta is special. Don't live too far away... It's always a pleasure going there . Glad you have these memories of this place

Bravo Riccardo a far conoscere Gaeta, credevo fosse un posto lugubre e pieno di militari
invece è amena e con un bel mare, e molto verde.
Davvero molto bella Gaeta , Margarita, d'accordo. Spesso non conosciuta..ma merita sicuramente. Uno dei primi video, ancora dovevo imparare bene a filmare)

Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed the walk. Indeed Gaeta is such a beautiful town... I always love going there. Beautiful atmosphere always
Nice combination with the drone shots :)
Thank you Thomas, still a lot of practice to do though (!)
Still Wanderer is all about the vibe , a tremendous vibe , sharp , clear camera work & the walking is more like a saunter or amble ..
but definitely not a trudge or swagger.
Johno... this is one of the most beautiful message I've ever received... Thank you so much and glad you enjoy the channel

One of my earliest walk Jess, love Gaeta, as I go often there. Maybe I was thinking of making a night walk there... hopefully soon!
@@StillWandererif possible can you film the sun as it's setting 🙏
I know I have seen this video but I didn't comment...
Good idea Jess. I'll try something like this in the future
Nice videos, but you'd probably have more subs if close captions could be activated when watching the videos like other walking tours do, without the viewer disturbing the video to have to look them up.
Thank You Gloria!! I agree, as I saw that it's an issue.:/ I uploaded them on newer videos, but I hope to add them also on older videos too when I'll find the time! 🙌
