+Jeff Collins thanks for the info. i truly had no idea and this is news to me. just made a small donation.
+Jeff Collins if everyone who had seen ryan vs dorkman could donate $1....
Yeah it seems a lot of folks don't know.
What's up with the stupid low amount of views for such golden advice, starting to think this industry is ridiculously obtainable...
Ryan Wieber, i seen ur videos from 2005 and 2005 the fan films u guys used to make, now seeing you in big stuff is amazing
That is a sexy index screen. Will be watching the entirety of this vidpodcast thing. Thank you guys for making it!
+fjrsm "That is a sexy index screen." Thanks bud. :-P
That is a T.E.R.R.I.F.I.C. conversation ! Thanx !
This is SO insightful, and I am extremely grateful for this Ryan!
Thanks for doing this. This is something that's really been needed.
Also, fellow After Effects over Photoshop user here. :D I pretty much only use PS for painting/clean plate creation.
+Maxwell Swet I feel that. I feel like Im always using AE for what I would probably use PS for. BUT I do also use PS when Im building certain elements and need to get clean masks, I might use that, but that is for still stuff usually
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I always feel like i'm cheating whenI use AE for photo work.
Very interesting - I am in it for one year now just for learnings sake. A little part of me is always thinking about entering the industry in some way.
Second! Wow! I was literally just watching their past duels
Damn I want more lol
I knew staying subbed would pay off!
Never understood unsubbing from not so active channel. It's not like that channel is taking space on your sub box or anything.
I agree and IMO Ryan v Dorkman earned my sub Many years ago.
YAY!!! 😊😊😊 He came back 😊😊😊
hes alive
I really need to know this because I'm trying to a skit where a sith lord goes up against one of the avengers
Please make a Ryan (Clones from RvB2) vs Dorkman & Brandon :D!!
New Lightwave is out in early 2018. What did you think of it?
if you don't take breaks you will hate yourself more than what you do
VFX is awesome but i almost threw it all away because of a client. i felt so stressed out using a software that i still don't domain (fusion) to take the job. yes i know it was stupid but i had to break the ice somehow with new software.
sometimes we just want to do stuff for our own satisfaction, it is healthy. its not like ppl want to study and work for a company u don't care to be treated like garbage.
Teague sounds like David w collins
I miss downinfront.
I'm almost 30, SFX was my dream 13 yrs ago back in highschool but had no family support, is it too late now? :( I guess it is..
car7000 Never too late to pick up After Effects and be able to do your own stuff!
i was planning on going to dave schoool to become a vfx artist/compositor .
dooo eeeeet
Ryan are you going to do another lightsaber duel

Check out his IMDB page
When you release a new video?

When is the next upload?
Why do you never win.
What about Fusion? Is that as frequently used as Nuke also? I find it to be a software that is also very powerful, but much easier to get a grasp on. If I learned that before Nuke, is that a big deal?
+Eric Fakharzadeh Depends on what you're asking. If your question is if Fusion is good software, I'd say that it is. If your question is if Fusion is very common, I'd say no, and especially not as common as Nuke.
Indeed, what Teague said. Totally worth learning Fusion considering the base software is free, compared to Nuke which is so incredibly not. There is a personal learning edition of Nuke, but the free version of Fusion can be used for real paid work. I downloaded it and there were enough free resources online that I was able to deliver a multipass CG comp within the week. I briefly considered just becoming a Fusion guy, but then I just bit the bullet and finally got Nuke :P
At the end of the day, learning a node-based system is worth it.
Yeah since moving to LA and working in VFX I have yet to come across any actual Fusion work that I'm aware of, which is a strong handful of places. But at every place, if they didn't use any Nuke at the time, they do now, at least to some degree. Nuke I think is also a sort of shorthand for high-end capability. Even if a place might have other compositing applications and be fine with using them, knowing Nuke is the passport.
Drank.
Is Ryan vs. Nate still happening ?
\
(If you haven't got an answer elsewhere) I saw on Nate's channel that they have had a lot of scheduling issues so the project is on hold until scheduling conflicts can be resolved.
Yup! Broken finger killed the initial shoot. Location was remodeled. Basically have to start over, and Ryan and I both work in VFX so scheduling is rather difficult. We do intend on actually getting it done though.
What Nate said. And surely around or before whenever that happens, I want to put together a little video about the attempted first version. A lot of BTS was rolled and we have the fateful finger breaking on camera, as it was during a take.
What program does he use?
For some reason I'm having DiF flashbacks.
